Re: MLB 11 The Show - Overall Team Rankings

As a yankee fan I'm use to all the hating towards our team, but I didn't notice how hated the Phillies were around baseball too.

some of the hating and arguments that some fans set up are straight up ridiculous

Cole Hamels could be an ace in tons of teams!

Guys remember to first be a baseball fan... then your favorite team fan.

I think age is catching up to the Phillies quickly. We should just start calling them the "Over the Hill Gang"!
Man, this is just wrong too.
Oswalt was 7-1 with a 1.65 ERA in meaningful games with the Phillies last year. That's not just ace, but ridiculous.

Oswalt is clearly not very good in relief though and that may of had some effect on his ratings. See Game 5 NLCS.

I still think Hamels could only be the "Ace" on a team that would struggle. He has great stats but I still don't think he has developed the intangibles required of a true ace.

He doesn't go deep enough into games 6.3 and isn't the true shut down hammer that you want out of your ace (I say this despite sitting in Great American last year and watching him dismantle the Reds).
Is he capable of it, yes, but he has struggled with inconsistency. Thats why I think he is one of the best #2s in the game but I still have a tough time accepting him being referred to as an ace.

WTF!? He's a starter, one inning in relief would have zero influence on his rating.

How are the twins 17th in this ranking? They are almost returning their entire 2010 central championship team. Nathan will be pitching again and hopefully Morneau will be back playing first. I know their missing two relievers but they are almost a sure thing to be in the top 10 in the MLB by the end of the season.

Gotta love Philly fans, nothing like them.

Glad to see my Giants ranked number 3. Beat Braves, Phillies, and Rangers not in 1 game but in a full series. This is not football were u can get lucky on any even game. In baseball the best team must clearly win.

No doubt the surprise rating is the twins, they should atleast be below 15. On the other hand, Dodger above Reds?!?!? Really? Maybe I am just bias.

Uh, I think you got that mixed up. Baseball is a game where being hot counts. The best record from season to season barely beats .600, Football you have multiple teams with records better than .600.

So it only takes a 7 game series to determine if a team is better than the other one or not? LOL!

Sorry I can clarify that for you, the best team clearly wins a series. Being hot does count. Giants had timely hitting and proved that Great pitching beats Great hitting.

Really? So when the Pirates win a series against a playoff team in the regular season that makes them a better team?

The hottest team in the playoffs usually wins it all, it does not make them the 'best' team. Baseball is a game of slumps and hot streaks, its why they have 162 games in the regular season, and its also why the playoffs are considered a crapshoot, a 7 game series isn't enough to establish a best team (small sample size), but someone has to win. So I respect the giants for winning it all, but best team they are not.

Valid point, a crapshoot may be pushing it. In 2010 overall we faired well against the Phillys, going 7-5. I also agree they are not the best team, personally I think Red Sox are. A do believe we belong at three at this point in the beginning of the season.
