Re: MLB 11 The Show - Overall Team Rankings

Apparently someone at SCEA had a bad experience at a Twins game or something, because the 17 ranking is ludicrous. They are ARGUABLY the favorite to win the AL Central again, and lost nothing but a couple of bullpen guys, which was somewhat offset by getting Joe Nathan back this spring.

There is no reason they should be ranked outside of the top 10.

Nice to see the tigers getting some love... but as a fan I'm a bit skeptical about being above the white sox and twins...

Not to sound like a prick because I do agree with you, but then im disappointed with the attribute's of the angels. Extremely under-rated, and im not saying that because I am a fan. Its plain obvious on who is coming back from injury and who we acquired in the offseason.

Rangers lose Lee & Harden (two allstars) and get an injured brandon webb and they are so high.

How exactly are the Giants over-rated? I don't have the game in front of me but I can guess their overalls and see why they would be considered "very good".

          Starting 5:
          Tim Lincecum A+
          Matt Cain A
          Jonathan Sanchez B+
          Madison Bumgarner B
          Barry Zito B

          Bullpen:
          Brian Wilson A+
          Sergio Romo B
          Dan Runzler B
          Javier Lopez B-
          Ramon Ramirez B-
          Jeremy Affeldt C+
          Santiago Casilla C

          Position Players:
          Buster Posey A-
          Pablo Sandoval A-
          Aubrey Huff B+
          Andres Torres B
          Freddy Sanchez B
          Cody Ross B
          Aaron Rowand B-
          Pat Burrell B-
          Mark DeRosa C+
          Travis Ishikawa C+
          Miguel Tejada C+
          Eli Whiteside C-

I don't see a team with a lot "stand-outs" at the position player side of things, but rarely do you get a team that can field players in the B-range overall. You can disagree with me and think that because of the lack of A's and the presence of C's should lower them, but I guarantee other teams ranked around them have similar if not bigger holes.

*Overall takes the last three years, weighted.

Yay, there's complete bias against the Twins, that's why they don't have a Twin on the cover. Oh wait.

lol Harden didnt do anything last year. We also got Beltre who is much better defensively than young and a very good hitter.

Harden = Webb. Brandon Webb was a premier pitcher pitching in an extreme hitter's park for his career. He'll definitely be a B at worse.

The Twins pitching staff is very sketchy. They have two number 2 starters and 3 back of the rotation guys, on most good teams. They lost 4 guys in the bullpen that they have to replace, and Nathan is 38 coming off Tommy John and is not a lock by any means to return to form at that age. I don't think their ranking is that out of line.

I'd take Webb over Harden and I think he will be much better then what Harden did last year.

On the topic of the Giants, what the heck happened to Pablo Sandaval last season? Good God, he was bad. I don't know how you develop a rating for a guy like that. He goes from a true plus hitter and below average defender, to an average hitter and an average defender.

I have no problem with the Twins being that low. That's what happens every year. Then come time when they actually play the games instead of looking at them on paper, they always find a way to win the Central. IMO the reason for the low rating in The Show is Joe Mauer is the only superstar on the team. Morneau is close to Superstar but since he got hurt last year I'm sure the ratings are a little low for him. The Twins pitching staff lacks a glorified ace. Pavano and Liriano are really good pitchers but are not superstars like Lincecum, Lee, Halladay etc. Then there is a pretty big drop off from those two. Duensing, Baker, Blackburn, and Slowey are all mysteries. You never really know what your going to get. Duensing pitched great last year but it doesn't mean he will be the same this year. Overall 17 is a little low for the Twins but I honestly think their roster on paper doesn't look that great. If there was a rating in The Show for "getting the job done" the Twins would probabaly be somewhere in the top 5 overall.

On a side note I've always wondered who on the Twins roster scares a fan of another team. Of course this excludes Mauer and Morneau. I've just really never thought of anyone on the Twins roster being scary to face except for those two.

He had a divorce and was over weight. All signs point to a good bounce back year, we'll see.

I'm sure the cpu does the team ratings according to each player attributes on the entire team, so it doesn't matter if your team made the playoff last season or blah blah blah.

my only gripe are the angels? why are they so low?

the rangers are sweeping the floor with them in Franchise/season mode.

How are the Marlins lower than the Mets? The Mets and Nats will be fighting for 5th place all year long.
