Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

If anyone would like to stay on their original teams in RTTS... what the computer does is they decide on July 1 which teams have the strategy of a playoff push or a normal strategy. playoff push teams get rid of their best prospects for good players to make a run. normal teams usually trade away their better/older players for prospects. In order to avoid being traded you just have to be on a team that isn't doing well through the first half of the season. Im on Cincinnati (AA) and they were in 4th by July 1st so they had a normal strategy. So I got to stick with my team. Only problem is they traded away 2 pretty good players (arroyo and hernandez) for prospects. thats the trade off

I could be wrong on this. Knight did a test and he came up with a different list of FA than I have been seeing.

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

I have a couple of problems with my current RTTS game and would like any suggestions:
        1) I'm going for the all-contact and speed switch-hit outfielder. Naturally I'm developing contact, etc. Unfortunately, in order to balance out my attributes after batting training my power is now at 30 for both sides after a year and 1 month of this career. Contact is 68 on both sides. Even at 30, my player constantly tries to hit the ball out, but obviously doesn't. It's getting insane. I'm using the regular swing, yet every time I hit the ball into the outfield it's either a line-drive right at a fielder or a fly ball that gets caught. Have I already given this player too much power and should I just scrap it?
        2) I can't draw a walk. 49 at-bats into my second season (now in AAA), I have 0 walks and 8 strikeouts (7 looking, one swinging early on change). Unfortunately I have a goal set to get 5 walks, and I have a week left. This started at the end of my first season (AA), where out of nowhere the CPU straight up stopped throwing me balls. In that first season I was among the league leaders in walks and still finished 5th in walks. I'm still using the same batting stance, same approach of taking pitchers, but no balls. No matter how bad the pitchers' ratings are it's all strikes. I've played with the sliders already and nothing is helping. Is it my attributes that make the CPU just not respect my player's ability?

I have found it very hard to take walks in the minors, but get realistic numbers in the Majors with default sliders on a variety of difficulties. It really feels like the AI for pitching in the minors is "THROW STRIKES AT ALL COSTS".

I feel the same way. It's harder to draw walks in minors for some reason. Partly it could be because the player's ratings aren't high, in which case pitchers challenge him and don't pitch around....

Some of it might have to do with the league or whatever (but I can't say for sure since I haven't played more than 2 seasons at AA) but it seems that AA pitchers are more aggressive and will attack the strike zone, regardless of how good their stuff is. In AAA I've seen more pitchers nibble than in AA.

The same thing has happened to me though, I have more walks the higher the league I'm in (with a low strikeout rate in all three leagues), but it's not just you noticing it.

In future iterations of the best sports game on the planet, can we have the coach or pitcher of bp varied between left and righty? The bp coach is always a righty. I like the addition of bp before the game starts but wish it wasn't always a righty. Not a huge thing but thought I would mention it. Game the hell on!!!

Yeah, I've gotten over the whole walks thing. I'm concentrating on having good at-bats, and I'm doing that. Now if they'd just stop giving my 30 power centerfielder home run and RBI goals, that'd be gravy. I'm getting benched next time I don't meet my slugger goals according to my insane manager.

BTW, does batting stance have any effect on what my player does? I can't get his dumb self to stop hitting fly balls. 30 power on both sides and I use regular and contact swings (mostly regular) and this dummy keeps trying to go deep. I'm wondering if this is an attribute thing or something switching batting stance can do.

I am starting to really get frustrated with RTTS. I keep going from AAA to AA, back up to AAA and vice versa in 4 years of my RTTS. I even simmed 2 years to see what would happen and it was pretty much the same. I am a pitcher, but how long has it taken some of you guys to get to the majors?

I'm thinking of maybe just starting all over again. I was pitching so well my first year and then get traded out of nowhere. It was annoying.

Thats odd, to be fair though Ive only played with two position players, but usually at LEAST by the 3rd year im in the Majors. I can bet that because you simmed youre still in the minors. It requires time and patience but the more you play the better you will do, if you sim the game doesnt reward you nearly as much there for you dont boost your ratings up enough... but again this is from a position players point of view

I'm not a pitcher, but my CF got called up at the end of the 1st year to the MLB and I haven't been sent back down (starting my 4th year). I haven't simmed any and my ratings are pretty high now. I'm on the Orioles and they were pretty thin at CF which is why I was called up. They traded two of their outfielders away then had injuries, so I ended up getting the call and stayed around. It all depends on the situation.
