I sure hope the Show pays more attention to career stats! Nothing more satisfying than looking at how they change over a player's career. Baseball numbers are beautiful. Think about how that goes with the beautiful visuals the Show is known for!

On the other hand, I also feel SCEA doesn't really wish to add too much replay value by adding this mode. They need to sell the Show every year, and if they make one nearly perfect game, who would be a repeat customer? I will be, but most won't...
    hey there fellow stat geek!

stats are one of the few things this game needs to be untouchable.

good to see these stats in game, 99 cents or not tho, they should be included in the game free of charge, no one can dispute that.

Any modern saber discussion will use wOBA and WAR as the principle metrics when evaluating players. I read FanGraphs every day and you'll never, ever see the majority of these metrics discussed. The majority of them are intermediate results that have either been discredited or improved upon.

I appreciate the effort to include some higher level statistical tracking but the execution on their first attempt leaves plenty to be desired.
Seconded, sort of. Assuming Battings Runs is palmer's Adjusted Batting Runs (or some approximation of it) using linear weights, it'll do in the place of wOBA. fWAR would have been nice to have, as would have FIP xFIP tRA etc.

Most of the states listed here aren't especially interesting or useful, but I appreciate a step in the right direction.

Also, it brings warmth to my cold calculating heart to see a few other baseball stat-lovers here on OS. It's one thing to love the game as well all do, and yet another still to be able to appreciate the pure mathematical beauty inherent in it.

Can the stats be viewed in Franchise, and do they change for all players from game to game?...Or are they just base stats that never change?

They're on my RTTS player's card, so it looks like they update as you go along.

I'll third the post above that says that they have the right idea, but they used the wrong stats. Hopefully my purchase will help show there's a market for stat nerds, but they need to do better next time.

Also, some of the recent stats like WAR are accumulative, so they can be slotted into the main stats page so we can see how we fare historically against the best players. Be nice to see ERA+ and OPS+ as well.

Isn't just a dollar (USD)? I was thinking about purchasing the extra stats later tonight. If anything, I just want to utilize the runs created statistic. Like others have stated though, it be nice to see WAR next year. I'm hoping in the near future, we can get OOTP type stats into The Show.

Yeah Boog, it's $0.99 in the PSN Store. I didn't see a place in-game to buy it.

I too hope they include some of the more commonly used ones in the future. I wonder if it's because the game doesn't track the data necessary to calculate them. I read up on that stuff, but I'm hardly a mathematician, so I don't know what they need for WAR, FIP, wOBA, etc. At least it's a step in the right direction for us stats junkies.

If you go into the Sports Connect, you can purchase it through there, and it will pop of the store checkout.

I am not sure, but are those stats "owned" by someone who came up with them, as in requiring a license?

WAR is on both baseball-reference and fangraphs, so not sure there's a purchasing problem. A it is HEQ isn't a Show exclusive sabre stat either, it was coined in the late 90's and was named after the guy.

I just feel they dropped the ball somewhat with their selection, I love ISO, RC and RF, but the rest just seem bleh, especially when the sabre crowd have settled on OPS+, ERA+, and WAR as the big sabre stats.

From the main menu, if you hit select and then go to the dollar sign symbol, you can buy it there.

OPS+ and ERA+ aren't exactly very good either. OPS (and it's derivatives) don't balance slugging and OBP appropriately. ERA+ is still defence dependent and thus is pretty subpar. wOBA, FIP and xFIP are far, far superior metrics.

None of the aforementioned stats are proprietary and can be readily used. They have all the means necessary to calculate them.

                              Everything he just said^.

Can anyone confirm that Batting Runs in the game refers to Adjusted Batting Runs or something like it? If so, that's a decent enough substitute for wOBA.
