The score is fine, because scores are based on how the game progresses.

If this was a score of just gameplay I bet he gives it a 9 or more

But he has to take into consideration new modes and presentation

Things that the show has not touched in a while
You mean like a revamped on-line, RTTS, Home Run Derby, Co-Op, and Challenge of the Week?

    and

New animations, lighting, HD score boards, canned scenes, player models, and Karros?

    Untouched?

Why do we go through this every year with every game? The only review that matters is your own...if you enjoy the game, who gives a rip what IGN/OS or anyone else thinks?

All I want is significant Franchise and RTTS improvments.

reviewers are entitled to their own opinion....mostly regarding gameplay or fun factor. But I don't know how anyone can take this guy serious when he has this in his review.

          Graphics 8.0
Nice animations and player body types seem spot on. The stadiums don't have much visual pop or wow factor.
what that shows me is he is reaching to justify the final score he gave the game.....if he would have gave the game 9.0-10.0 graphics (because well it is one of the best looking sports games around, let alone any game)....it would have made the rest of the review scores not add up/justify his final overall review score of an 8.0.

I love the game do not get me wrong. But what I got from the review is that the announcer Karros does not flow right with the other 2 and I agree because it seems the same dialogue is there from the previous 3 years. Also the stat overlay is not changed much. Things like that

I am not into modes because season mode keeps me busy enough. But I am just stating that high scores come from games that have major upgrades to the game. I love analog and they said gameplay is the best in the business which at the end of the day is what matters to me at least

            Great job

I can automatically tell you what is going on. Commentary.........short and simple when it goes untouched for as many years in a row you will get these type of comments. Close your eyes and listen and you will not be able to tell the difference from the past few years. With the exception of Matt V. who is amazing, you need to scrap the other two as it just DOES NOT work!

Onto the other areas of the game............it is amazing and you guys do a great job every year with this. Fix the audio (new commentary) and your results with reviews would instantly increase. This is where The Show is being weighed down and you have to seriously address this once and for all.

Read my post, I mean it really made me laugh when they say the stadiums don't make you say wow and nothing pops out, WTH. The stadiums are a thing of true beauty of game designing , IGN guys need glasses.

                  Re: IGN Review Thread

I'm debating picking this one up. I have 10 but it's either buy 11 and keep tiger 11 or keep 10 and buy tiger 12 , maybe neither ... But, knowing 10 and just from I've read thus far that almost has me wanting to buy this game, that 8 is rather low...

And that's because IGN doesn't do very well at sport game reviews. They don't really understand them for the most part. MLB the Show 10 was awesome, and MLB 11 is 10 with better aspects to gameplay and AI tweaks both trade and on the field.. Yet it gets a lower score.

Take the alternative, NCAA especially - It regresses in some areas and the same stupid AI on the field is still present yet it gets high marks cause every team runs a spread now...

Fact is, they just don't know what they're doing with sports games. Everything else, I really don't have a huge problem with - but their sports rankings leave a lot to be desired.

it's easy to have "major upgrades" to games that have sucked in the previous year. It much harder to chance/add new things to games that have already established themselves. And even more hard with Baseball games. It's Baseball, what "major" addition can be added to a sport? I mean again look what he wrote about the stadiums. How do you add WOW factors to these current stadiums? Have UFO's flying by shooting lasers?

Well the commentary needs major work in order to feel like it is a game being called. Is the same lines every year.

In a slow pace game like BB the announcers are that much more important then other sports where the action speaks for itself

The stat overlays are unchanged for a while now. They are a key element in presentation.

The gameplay is fantastic but other key aspect that immerse you are not changed yet and hopefully they will next year

That is why you cannot give a game 9 one year and 9.5 the next year if things feel outdated regardless if they did tinkering under the hood which they did

Also remember that IGN score system is different now

                        8 is an exceptional score

I'm sure Karros will be implemented better next year. I think he was rushed in for this build (Because fans asked for someone new to be added). But at the end of the day, I don't think it is easy to just scrap commentators. It takes years to build up a good library of dialog in a game. Same reason NFL2K kept their crew together for so long.

One comment about commentary. I don't think it's so much a matter of who you have, as I think any announcers can have good chemistry and sound decent together but a matter of how you do it. This is one area 2K gets right in all their games lately. 2K either gets their team together in a booth and has them talk and record their audio as a group or they have pre-planned conversations between the guys with a script. I'm pretty sure with most other games they don't try to actually capture conversations but instead record similar lines on various topics and just kinda program to come up together. I could be totally wrong but this is my hunch.

I have no problem if the games were graded fairly and if IGN was consistent with their reviews. But that is not the case.

We can bring other IGN sports game reviews into this discussion if you want to.

edit- I've always felt numbered/Letter "scores" in reviews should be stopped. And just content in the review should be enough. As far as this review, I can't take this guy serious with the content in the review, let alone the score themselves.

I am not big on review scores. But to put it in perspective. IGN gave Madden the same score as The Show. Now granted they are different sports, but if you take in the whole package each game offers I am not sure how scoring them the same is possible.
