This is why IGN has just been so sad over the years.

This made me laugh. Graphics- "The stadiums don't have much visual pop or wow factor"


Are you kidding me, the stadiums are what make the graphics what they are and that's amazing, This is why I only go to IGN just for news updates, they are truly pathetic.

What do you expect? They probably have it wired to a 1973 Zenith 13" black & white TV.

You may like the graphics as a 10 but they are not. One of their biggest keys is the broadcast cams for all teams and that is great but then why have 2d fans who look horrible. How is that suppose to make the graphics the best around.

At the end of the day who are his review calling the game GREAT going to hurt gamers in the long run.

He said the game is great and said the game play is one of the best around and that ratings mattered more in this sports game then any other

To me those are well pronounced points, but you guys want to fixate on the WOW factor for stadiums

So a game that has better gameplay improvements, better graphics, better RTTS improvements and better overall everything is worse than all the other years? SMH!

You do realize that IGN does not use the same review scores as the last 3 years. They do not do 8.7 anymore they round off

So this 8 could be an 8.1 8.2 8.3

And review scores are not suppose to go higher the more the game comes back with most of their elements in tact

The 8.7 a couple of years ago was for the big leap in things you saw then, but small tweaks and other aspects are not going to make them rate it higher then before

Once you set a bar, you are expected to raise it if you want a better score

They feel that many of the more important things like commentary needs fixing and They are not going to continue to go higher in scores from previous years when updates to the game are not as prevalent to the casual gamer.

IGN does not review for the die hard sim heads they review for gamers

IGN has been lackluster for sports gaming reviews for a while now. Same for Gamespot.

And that goes for all sports games and companies when they review. Not cause of The Show.

They cater mostly to the more popular FPS and other games of the types crowd.

Seems like sports games are always an afterthought, and seems like they select a non sports gaming junkie to review them.

Just my take over the past decade and more visiting said sites. Thus I ONLY use them occasionally for screen shot viewing now.

Gosh forbid a baseball game get a 9 and challenge 9 scores of other popular genres and games.

This is the BEST Show yet, hands down. But lets doc it .3 points, "just because".

Thus why scores are so arbitrary.

most of us don't. But unfortunately there are many that visit IGN. Earlier when I was at work around 7pm (after posting in this thread). I walked over to our desk and I saw a co-worker of mine reading IGN...and I already knew what he was about to say..

"8.0 man..." and I cut him off before he continued... had to give him a quick talk..lol.

First of all, to anyone who doesn't know.

Lets say Hil gave the graphics a 10, that doesn't mean the game score would go up from 8.
Those "other scores" dont have anything to do with the final score.

The final score is just that, a final score.

Next, people should stop making a big deal about the score. He made some points that he felt were justified, and thats that.

Im pretty sure people who READ the review, already BOUGHT the freakin game.

Lastly, they have a "Word limit" cap on reviews now.
3-4 years ago they had 4 - 5 page reviews of games.

Now its 2 -3 pages max, for big games.

People don't want to read 5 pages of reviews anymore. That's why IGN decided to go with fewer words, so if a certain reviewer didn't touch on something, that is why.

I am not trying to defend anyone, just justify the reasoning for the review.

Same dude who reviewed the Show reviewed NBA 2K11 and gave it a 9.5 which is justified because they proved that you can make a big leap from one year to the other

Not from me. I've never been a fan of Hilary's work.

Again they gave it the same score as thet gave Madden. The quality of those two titles isnt even close.

IGN is what it is. A review site with questionable motives who cater to a demographic most of us are not a part of.

I do not know why they let Hilary review the baseball games. He has been known to not really be a big fan regardless. And this game can stand toe to toe with the same level of greatness as NBA2K. So um, yeah!

His comment about the stadiums alone is one of the most moronic statements I have ever read. Yeah I went there, ignorant, naive and moronic. They are the most detailed with the crowds, lighting, vendors, crowd diversity, towels, etc. Real MLB jumbotron graphics specific to the teams that used them last year, which has NEVER been done in a baseball game before. Plus the other effects like the the Apple in NY and Bernie Brewer down the slide, fireworks, etc.

They do way more than any other sport game. WAY MORE. Just a reaching comment, and I take it personally, cause I busted balls all week at the CE to try and get things to the proper channels for everyone. And those TALENTED as hell artists over there do a phenomenal job.

IGN is what it is. A review site with questionable motives who cater to a demographic most of us are not a part of.

It has no bearing on the final score (which I dont care about either.)
Maybe he just felt in his opinion it gets an 8.
What score would you give the graphics?

So a review is more about the improvements in a game than it is the quality of the game? Makes perfect sense. Like saying getting the Most Improved Player Award is better than winning the MVP.

But let's think about this. If he gave graphics a low score, it lowers his overall opinion of the game, right? And that results in a lower overall score.
