Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

How much is an 18 year old a prospect worth if he is 4-6 years from the bigs? For example, if I want to get bubba starling or Gary Sanchez how much should I trade since a.) they are far from the bigs and b.) their teams are stacked at their positions?

i'm sorry but you would not be getting Felix from me unless it was a contract year in a terrible season. however he's signed long term so there would be no trade

In my Dbacks franchise I want Wilson Betemit to play 3b since Mora sucks and I have Roberts platooning with Johnson at 2b. Any idea what a fair trade would be to get him? The computer will take Mora straight up but that doesn't seem fair

Depends on how Betemit is doing with the Royals. If he is having a good season, offer a B-C prospect with Mora. If it's a bad one, send Mora and maybe a utility player. Betemit is not a big name player, so don't stress too much.

I am having trouble deciding what to do at the deadline. I have some A pot OF prospects that I am willing to trade: Shaffer (25yo), Wilkin Ramirez (26yo), & first season 1st rd pick (20yo). I am set for the next couple years in center w/ BJ Upton and in right w/ Heyward, but I am worried about my budget in a couple years when Heyward/Hanson/Minor/Jurrjens/Freeman/McCann will all be making millions/per.

Do you guys think it makes sense for me to trade 1-2 of those prospects for a stud hitter or pitcher to go for that WS title this year? I can get McCutchen or King Felix, but I am worried I will not be able to afford all these guys very soon and would not have much in the cupboard when that time came. Possibly get one of those guys, then trade a guy or two for prospects next year?
I ended up not being able to get Felix. I did the following trade with the last place Pirates:

              Braves get:
              McCutchen
              Meek

              Pirates get:
              20yo A LF prospect
26yo A RF prospect (now starting MLB for Pit)
              24yo B SP prospect (8-3 2.56 ERA in AAA)

I moved Tabada to CF and he became the 2nd or 3rd best player on their roster, so with McCutchen going into arb following the current season, it didn't seem outlandish to me for them to trade him as they still have Tabada/G.Jones/Diaz to go along with the new young guys. Meek had an ERA over 5, so I am hoping he can turn it around for my playoff push.

              Thoughts?

If you are worried about budget with the braves, get rid of Lowe and Hudson. You have guys that can fill up their spots, Minor, Beachy, Medlen.

Schaffer can be your everyday CFer, he ends up one of the top CFers after a few years. I'm only in my first year in June, and I'm thinking of trading away McClouth and putting him in the starting posistion. I'm trying to make way for young talent, as the Braves have plenty.

You could get rid of Uggla and put Prado back at Second...

Though you have two young guys at SS that can pick up 3B and SS once chipper retires.

LIpka and Pastronicky. Though the Braves IRL are expecting LIpka to play CF. Though if Schaffer keeps playing the way he is in IRL I see no reason he doesn't become the CFer.

I'm looking for a nice reliever. I'm looking to unload Lowe, and George Sherriel and Scott Linebrink, they are getting old and I have no luck with them. Any Suggestions. Rather have a righty, as I have 2 good lefties in O'Flaherty and Venters.

I am already at the trade deadline in yr 2, and Chipper retired after yr 1. I moved Prado in to 3rd, and through this season, I have been playing Cody Ross in LF, so getting McCutchen is a huge upgrade. I have BJ Upton in center currently, so after this season, I will trade him for a prospect or two to replenish some of what I lost in the McCutch deal. This would allow Schafer to play everyday in LF.

I dealt Lowe at the deadline last year (out of playoff race due to injuries) and will let Hudson walk following this season. I will be left with Hanson, JJ, Minor, C.Richard (traded for Beachy who was really struggling for me), Tehran & Medlen to start next season.

I hope to have Lipka and Pastornicky as bench players next season, then ready to take over in 2014 as cheaper options to allow me to sign JHey/McCutch/Hanson/Freeman/Minor long term as they will all be a year or two into arb.

I actually hadn't made any adjustments to my bullpen until I just did this deal where I got Meek. Martinez has been sub 2.00 ERA both seasons for me, so he has worked amazingly as my middle relief righty to go along with Moylan. Those two, along with EOF, Venters, & Kimbrel have been solid for me, so I haven't really looked into those available. I'd recommend giving Martinez a shot before making a deal.

I have Martinez as my LRP, and he works wonders for me there and really don't want to move him. I use him in blow outs, and as a sixth inning guy. He is killling it. sub par 2.00 ERA as you said, and I can strikeout people with him like crazy.

I use Moylan as my 7th inning guy, O'Flaherty as my secon 7th inning guy and a lefty specialist.

Venters is my Setup guy and Kimbrel my closer.

I honestly just want Sherrill and linebrink gone becasue they eat up salary when I have some minor league guys I could use instead. Same reason Lowe is on the trading block, beachy for me is lights out, but once JJ came off the DL. (started with injuries as they were on opening day). I chose to let Minor stay who is also doing awesome becasue I needed a lefty.

IMO, the Dodgers get more, but Im not sure how good Bay or Santana is since I rarely play with/against them.
