If people get so passionate about pro sports where they have ZERO to do with the outcome, it's no wonder they want realism in a game that they control. I play for fun, which is why I've never finished a season and have no problem quitting games. I am not going to play for an hour and 10 minutes, only to lose 11-2 and be angry. If I am not having fun, I turn it off and play later. Some people really need to realize it's a game.

Very true! I'm not bashing those that take it seriously. I don't care at all how anyone else plays their games. Why should I? I was simply looking for people who have no issues with cranking the contact and solid hits sliders up a tick or two!

Haha, I'm the same way. I won't quit (but I certainly won't burn any relievers' arms in mop up duty - I let the guy who blew the game deal wit it... take THAT!), and I haven't actually finished a season in a baseball game since MLB Power Pros, and before that MVP 05. And even that is only because that was three years between games and nothing good in between. I likely won't finish a Show '11 franchise season, which is why I don't get too hung up on full rosters, extreme customization of sliders, etc. I just play.

Re: Does anyone play this game for fun?

i agree, i'm not really into the hardcore sim baseball experience where there has to be 5 hits a game, and the games take an hour and a half to complete. I have 2 user settings

1 is for more realism, zone hitting on veteran, pitching on all star, and fielding on legend.

the second setting is for more arcade, analog hitting on rookie/veteran, pitching and fielding the same as above, but the hitting cam i use is wide, but brought just about all the way back so it resembles the older 8 bit games. I adjust the cpu pitching sliders all the way to the right on; consistency, strikes and ... something else, can't remember. I also up the sliders almost all the way on contact, power, timing, solid hits .. etc for human. I played one game and got 12 hits with 4 hrs so it still needs a little tweaking... BUT i had fun.

              and that's all that matters.

This is the first year since I've had a ps3 (2008) that I'm not going to burden myself by making sure every team's roster is completely accurate and my stats are true to life. I plan on getting the first OSFM set when it comes out and starting a franchise with timing hitting (my favorite way to hit now) and just enjoying the game. I already love this game for what it is and am not going to spend hours on end tweaking things to mimic real life, it's just not enjoyable anymore.

I am trying to figure out where some of you guys are getting that people who pay for a sim experience, think every single game should be low scoring. Not true at all, a sim expierence in baseball means that you get a variety of games. Low scoring, high scoring, pitcher duels, and everything in between. That is when you get a truly realistic experience.

And I repeat what a couple of others have said, for me it is fun when they game plays realistically.

Same here. I only enjoy a game if it gives me not only realistic gameplay but simulated stats in a franchise mode. Even as a young kid I wanted evrything to be as realistic as possible. Before game kept stats i use to keep my own in a notebook. So if a game has poor simulated stats then its ruins my whole experience. Thats why I shelved NBA2k11 and it is a good game to play but some of the flaws in sim stats just ruined it for me.

My thoughts to a "T" to me not playing "The Show" as a sim experience, is like playing a flight simulator with no crashes and unlimited fuel""

I think the great thing about the Show series is the amount of customization available to the user. I guess you can go "arcade" or sim. My 13 year old son can bash away during HR derby or play on Rookie and enjoy it, and I can try and play a "realistic" season and enjoy it as well. SCEA does a great job of putting in little details that the hardcore sports gamer will appreciate, and they make the game still play great for the casual gamer. I would agree with some of the other posters, that the fun is in the sim elements. I would fall somewhere in the middle. I don't care too much about minor leagues and exact rosters, and I like fantasy draft, but I like to play out a whole season and try and win the Series.

But if all you're doing is tweaking to make sure you get the EXACT stats a player will in real life, even if it means switching to "Timing" style hitting, is it even fun? What's the point of playing?

Personally, I like Zone hitting and trying to hit 70 home runs with, say, Nick Swisher.

I mean, it's just a video game. The 'real thing' is available to watch on TV or play in real life. I'm not saying everyone but me is wrong - to each their own, and everyone is certainly free to play the game as they see fit! But for me, fantasy draft with DH in both leagues is the way to go!
I just answered a similar question in another thread.

What is "fun" is different to everyone, so yes, we all play for fun.

If sim-like results makes it fun for someone, then they are playing for "fun."

If just playing the game regardless of results is fun, then that person also is playing for "fun."

                              There's no wrong way.
