    Re: Portraits with updating hats

I think I'll sum everything up right here:

    Pros:
    - Can adjust player's height, weight, announced name
    - Player's portrait will be a rendered image, so the hat will change if he changes teams
    - If you re-create an existing player, you can replace them and keep their career stats

    Cons:
    - MLB service time is reset to 0 years
    - No contract
    - Generic picture on Player Card
    - Player specific commentary is gone

I'm trying to change out Lastings Milledge but it didn't work...He's an existing player.
His 2010 stats applied, but the picture never changed and his audio never took...?

Make sure his name is spelled correctly and that you have some announcer name selected

then select add to FA and export

load a saved roster file (to get rid of the created player in FA)

select the "real" Milledge, overwrite him with the created one

by the sounds of it, you understand what to do, but it should be working, perhaps a small step was missed?

This is a weird question, but....

Can you create a player to get the real player's face put in place on the character, and then edit the guy's name but still keep the real face? Or does the face go away if you edit the name again?

Like, say I wanted to make a fictional player who is related to some real/past player, that way they'd look eerily like the guy but not have the exact same name? So I could have a crop of created players whose fathers or grandfathers were big-time players?

Does this seem like an easter egg kind of a thing, or kind of a freak occurence?

I mean, do you think the Dev's planned this or knew this would happen?
Or is it just kind of happening?

I may be way off, but perhaps it is necessary for the All-Star roster to work correctly in exhibition...

Since you cant play a team against itself in exhibition, the only time when 2 players could be in a game together would be if they were on the all star team and were playing against their regular team.

So the game probably assigns a head to any player that has a specified name (e.g. Derek Jeter). But not if they take up a User Created Player "slot"

Importing them and overwriting other players must mess up the setup, because they are now eligible to be assigned any head.

Im guessing Jeter was the first face to be done, as it seems to be a "fallback" option, IE if there is some kind of error, use Jeter.

                    it could not have been...

in 09 and 10 you could not "overwrite" existing players, you could only create them, placing them in a "Created Player Slot"

this year, you can insert players outside of these slots, which is allowing us to assign heads

try creating a player named derek jeter, the one in the FA list wont have jeter's head, but if you export it and overwrite an existing player, the player model will have jeter's head

the only thing i cant figure out is why you have to assign audio for the players name, it doesn't even have to be the player's name

Just don't do Edwin or Conor Jackson since Jackson isn't a selectable last name

But seriously I always thought that since the renders looked so good they should just use those instead of real photos. Just looks better in my opinion.

Select the name under where Jackson would be.

For example. When I created Tony La Russa, his last name was not in the audio section. SOOOO, I looked where it would be alphabetically. That place would be in between "LaRue" and "Lasorda" so I choose Lasorda and tada La Russa's face appears.

It also worked for Reggie Jackson, pick the name under where Jackson should be.

the game has all these capabilities that aren't being used!

well i guess they are being used, but only for minor leaguers (for the most part)...

the game can render portraits of any player based on their model, so any players with neck tattoos will have them in their portraits as well, the portraits will reflect which jerseys/hats are being worn and even the lighting/time of day... its awesome!

also, the name you select for audio doesn't matter :P I created David Ortiz, but for audio I just set the last name as "Alomar" and it still worked LOL

                                Some more screens!

This could end up being a lot of fun, especially for putting older teams together, since IT ALSO WORKS WITH MANAGER'S HEADS!

I think it's time for Torre to call it quits :P How bout a '99 Yankees team with Joe Girardi, or Ernie Whitt on the Jays!

Timmy and Manny switch places? :O

This one's just to show that you don't have to have the same names selected for audio as you enter for the on-screen displays.
