Re: Portraits with updating hats
cool little find. but why would you want to loose every attribute, player baseball card, service time, player specific cut scene, and commentary just so you can have the right hat LOL? let alone take the time to edit all these players. pass.Comment

Re: Portraits with updating hats
When I first found this, I was just looking at the portraits, I hadn't tested it in-game yet, so I didn't know what effect it would have on the commentary. But I agree that it's not something I would want to do.
However, maybe if you have a player who played a game or two last year but still has less than one year's service time, say he gets traded before opening day, you could use this "trick."
Also, if they release a patch, I wonder if any edits you've done before that would remain.Comment

This might be their "workaround" for us to get the proper player hats people wanted, and to show us the generated faces look fantastic, and just as good as the actual MLB portraits.
This is fantastic news.
And for the sake of argument, if it is a "bug" (which I doubt), it is one of the coolest bugs ever!Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Portraits with updating hats
That's pretty cool and definitely helps in cases where guys who are still playing but aren't in the game but have been in previous installments.
They definitely should switch to portraits for next year - this way the hats will always change and we wouldn't lose service time or any of that. It's a cool easter egg this year but it can turn to a full-on great addition starting next year.Comment

Re: Portraits with updating hats
I personally don't think they will.

right now the Player Vault is more or less broken because any player you download will have Jeter's head (unless they have the same name as a previously existing player) as soon as you add audio for the player's name
the Player Vault was one of the big features for this year, I don't see how they can just leave it like this, however I do like this "easter egg" as well... :PComment

i'm betting they'll fix it.

But recreating actual MLB players, this would be a "feature" to leave in there. And I think intended. Just the Jeter placeholder is not.
We will see.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I exported a Parker yesterday...with no audio...imported him...changed his name to Dave Parker...he stayed as is..(I think Parker was a classic player in last year, right?)

Not only that, but maybe a work around since we lost classic players.
If we could get the work around for retired jerseys, we would be golden (for classic roster guys anyway)Comment

Re: Portraits with updating hats
I created Cap Anson (I picked him because I knew he wouldn't be on there), and did his face, and audio (and everything else), and he downloads with the face I created, not Jeter's
He's in the vault if you wanna check it out. User name emath2432Last edited by emath; 03-12-2011, 12:38 PM.Comment

I don't remember Parker being one (though I suppose I could be wrong).Comment

Re: Portraits with updating hats
Does this allow you to edit facial hair for a created player?
For example, if you create Brian Wilson and import him, can you "shave" him?
In spite of how cool this is, I would lament losing player-specific commentary and cutscenes. I prefer them to the wrong hats on the portraits.
I support keeping the rendered portraits for future games, though!Fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple LeafsComment

however, if you give the player glasses, eye black or a turtleneck, it will be reflected in the portraitComment
