I usually read through a thread before I post so I dont repost what has already been said, but its 230 am and I dont have the energy to read it all so Im gonna drop my 2 cents then head to bed.....

You said you should not be able to hit a HR with a contact swing.....
If that were true, guys like Jeter, Ichiro, J-Roll and 27 other lead-off hitters would not have any HRs.

Now will they hit 73 or 763? NO! But a good contact swing can launch a ball just as far as a country strong swing.
Its all about bat speed & timing..... not power!

I always use contact swing. I may on occasion use power swing but its very rare. I get good enough results with the x button so why use anything else?

Don't you need to be massively pumped up on steriods for that? I don't think the game has that as a built in feature.

          Re: Homeruns with Contact Swing

I only hit home runs with normal swing. I'm terrible with power swings as I usually just miss or get poor contact, and I hardly ever use contact swing, so I'll just stick with normal.

That was exactly my first thought with the Gibson HR.

I use contact swing in Challenge of the Week and in the thousand or so balls that I have hit with contact vs normal I will say this:

Contact swing will drop about 30 ft off of your max hit distance, a higher percentage of balls that are squared up with good timing will be weakly hit or fouled off. Other than that there is not much difference between contact and normal.

              Re: Homeruns with Contact Swing

You shouldn't be able to hit a homerun with contact swing? Do you know real baseball? The best hitters say you hit homeruns when you are just simply trying to put a good swing on the ball.

I think of power swing like Dunn, Reynolds, etc. You are going all out for the HR. Sometimes you will hit hard, a lot of the times you strike out.

But guys like Pujols and Cabrera two players who represent what the "Contact" swing is in this game. Their homeruns aren't a result of going all out to hit a ball over the fence. They also hit .340. They spray the ball over the field, whether that's a double to the gap, or a measly single the other way. But they still hit 35-40 homers WITHOUT trying to hit homeruns. They just put good swings on the ball and go with the pitch.

But Contact can also represent guys like Polanco..who don't strike out and hit a solid .300 every year.

Think of the power swing as Adam Dunn. Then contact/normal is Pujols/Cabrera or Ichiro/Polanco depending on the type of hitter who is at the plate.

Power means you are driving to drive it to the gap, trying to hit a HR. When you do that you hit for a low average and strike out a lot. But Pujols, Cabrera, etc. don't try to do those things, but there swings are so fundamentally sound so they can spray the ball all over the field, still hit for power, still hit .340, and strike out significantly less.

                Re: Homeruns with Contact Swing

I haven't hit any HR with the contact swing yet but I've gotten enough hits with it that I think it is more viable than I would have thought. Mainly I use it to fight off 2 strike pitches which it seems to do quite well.

Power swing doesn't work for me because whenever I decide to use it, I get too excited and my timing is way off. I hit most of my homeruns with the normal swing.

                  Re: Homeruns with Contact Swing

I've only hit one with contact swing so far. But my timing was perfect, my contact was superb (zone hitting no analog), and the pitch was just below belt high.

Have used contact swing about fifteen times so far, and about fourteen of them have been sky high pop ups to the shallow outfield

X button is not a contact swing.

Actually I think its both based on your settings, be it timing or zone.

Really? I must have misread. I thought O was contact, except possibly on Rookie.

I don't think it's blasphemy when this happens, it's just luck. Now if it's happening every game, then there's an issue. I haven't hit a HR with contact swing yet.

Hit another one yesterday with my rtts guy. Another perfect timing/ superb contact swing.
                              Love it!

I'm not consistantly hitting HR's with contact swing but have hit some. Not a lot but a few.
No different IMO when someone says they got great contact and perfect timing on a normal swing and didn't hit a HR.
