I know umps miss calls on both sides, I have really been trying not to strike out as much and I finally got back my eye for the strikezone but the umps are just too erratic for me. No consistency whatsoever
I loved the way High Heat Baseball did it, there was a graphic you could activate to show you the TRUE strike zone (looked a lot like K-zone) and if you had variable umpire turned on you could click another graphic that would give you the umpires strike zone but in a different color.

Would be great to see that added to MLB '11 The Show.

That is a really good idea. The only trouble would be drawing Clyde Washington's strike zone. I imagine it would just be a big mess of squiggly lines.

I have no issues with the strike zone. Plus the umpires call it differently just like in real life.

It may be a sim video game. But its still a video game.

Another issue that makes it difficult to simulate how a real umpire calls a game are the situational calls. For example -- and my biggest ball/strike pet peeve -- when a pitcher hangs a breaking ball at the top of the strike zone. It may technically be a strike, but real umps often won't give the call on a pitch that misses the target by a wide margin. Conversely, if a pitcher hits the mitt just off the corner and the catcher makes it look good, they often get the call.

I keep hoping they [developers] would add a "framing" attribute to catchers that would add some value to good catchers. Right now they are just another bat that happens to catch pitches with very little to differentiate them from any other position. With a catcher on the cover for two straight years, there needs to be more value added to the position.

I'm no tech guru.. But, I don't know if these systems (ps3/360) can do that. Like they have the computing power to do that. Since "The Shows" been out on ps3 for how many years. And they haven't even mentioned that as far as I know.

I like your idea though. If a pitch is on, or near the black. A excellent pitcher can frame it to look more like a sure strike, like in real life.
