I am actually really liking pure analog hitting. I play on veteran with only the power slider moved up one tick and the cpu strike frequency down 2 ticks. I played a little baseball to (just high school) and using the analog just feels natural, I love controlling your first step. And I when I swing and miss I miss under, I miss over and swing and miss right through some pitches (never thought I'd be so amazed by strikeouts, lol). I could be mistaken but I think were your bat ends up (in the zone) depends on the timing on your step as well as your follow through.

I had a ton of trouble at first but one thing I think can help you get back on track is (this is what I did) dont guess the pitch but guess the location of the pitch. If the area you guessed lights up red then focus on that area and prepare to swing and just layoff anything that doesn't cross the area you guessed. After doing this for a while I think you can get a better understanding of pitch recognition in the game.

I've actually had varying success with and without various guess pitch options. On my RTTS, up until about a month or two into my AAA career, I was batting .300 plus and then all of a sudden its like a switch went off and my guy couldn't hit anymore.

I do like being able to influence the ball left and right into the gaps with the right stick but half way through my AAA career is when my guy just stopped remembering how to swing correctly at low and high balls.

As I said, I'm determined to find something that works for me with Analog though.

I don't think the game is harder...just feel like the mechanic of that particular mode is flawed which stinks cause I really want it to work for me.

The hitting mechanic itself is far from being flawed. I'm hitting great on HOF, and I'm having a blast with it.

I don't get that either. I know many people are having a great time with and its working well for them. Like I said though, not hitting is out of my hands. I can't control how high or low he's swinging and yet when I have good a perfect timing most of the time, high and low swings are the only thing holding me back.

BTW, flawed was probably a poor choice of wording there. Its not glitched or broken. Maybe just difficult to get all the aspects?

When I read the OP I empathized with the part about being not focused at 9pm and just want to chill for an hour playing a game. I dropped analog too. It just wasn't my cup of tea. Sometimes you gotta have laser eyed focus to hit well, even not using analog.

I agree with Nixon. Analog was fun to try out in the demo, but after about 1 or 2 games, I went back to the X button. It's hard enough with just a button, let alone, like he said, timing all the different stances.

Maybe if it was like the old EA college game, where you just pull back and release to swing, it could be a lot easier.

This maybe because I find the Sony controller more uncomfortable with every use, but I think what would feel good would be to use the L1 or R1 buttons to swing, with one signifying pulling the pitch, or going the other way with it, depending on which way the batter hits. Maybe you could even rear back and press both of them for a power swing.

Just my opinion, obviously.

Do you use the stick left and right depending of it is an outside or inside pitch or are you just going straight up?

I gave up on analog pretty early and switched to Zone. My right stick skills suck. I kept angling the stick instead of pushing it straight. So sometimes I'd get unintentional bunt attempts, windups with no swings and no windup+swing even when I thought I pushed the stick.

I'm not that great at video games and I'm hitting just fine on All-Star with the analog controls. Here's my biggest recommendation:

Try a different camera angle!

This may have a bigger impact then you think. I couldn't hit offspeed pitches to save my life, so I switched to an offset camera angle where I can read the break of the pitch out of the pitcher's hand. Also, are you using guess pitch? If you aren't, give it a shot. Guess fastball every pitch, if you're wrong you can adjust to an offspeed pitch.

The first 2 weeks I had the game I was very frustrated with analog hitting so I feel ya, OP. Trying to do the stride and swing seemed next to impossible.

I went down to Veteran and messed with sliders and started a franchise.

Now that I've played maybe 35-45 full games, it's basically second nature. Especially if you start playing with the same team so you can get used to each guy's stride.

When I play with a new team, I take a practice stride to see how early I need to start the stride and it's not bad at all. I'll be moving to All-Star before long.

Also, Catcher 9 view helped me alot.

Look, I don't think analog hitting is the greatest system ever. For one thing I feel like you still often don't get that satisfying *chunk* when you get into one. Every now and then you hit one out and it feels like you should have missed the pitch entirely.

That said, I like it a lot more than the buttons now and once you get the hang of it the buttons feel like incredibly robotic and also feel like they give you even less control.

In short: lower the difficulty, muck with the sliders and stick with it.

i gave up on analog hitting for a different reason. analog hitting in this game is awesome, no doubt. but i've been waiting so long for true "cursor" hitting (w/ pci turned on and functional) from my wsk2k3/4 days to appear in the show series. it is finally here and now i'm having the best baseball gaming experience i ever had before. and to think it could even get better if they add the combination of "cursor" hitting using the analog controls..wow, just thinking about that makes me wish it could be patched into this year's game. but if they only added this addition next year, i'd still buy mlb the show '12, but that wouldn't happen...just having only one addition that is.

OP, I feel your pain... but I had trouble the first week until I changed my philosphy and camera angle.

Camera Angle: I've played with either Wide 2 or Wide 3.. those 2 do it for me.

ALSO: 9 and 3 O'CLOCK SIDE-SWING:
The analog hitting recognizes very well the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock sideswing better than going up+diagonally right or left for inside/outside pitches. I mean, you don't even have to push up and diagoanlly to hit those pitches.. just pull back, and push to the 12, 9, 3 positions instead. Goto Practice/Batting/Contact to test this out and you'll see... forget about the up+R,L ... (or 10 or 2 o'clock positions)

Anyhoot.. Offline I, started it at Veteran - (last year's default settings) and now I've bumped up to All-Star...

ONLINE - don't get me started. LOL! OK. I'll shut up now..

You lasted longer than I did. I switched from analog hitting 3 days after the game came out. i just can't seem to get the hang of it.
