Re: Giving up on Pure Analog Hitting

I was really struggling with analog hitting too, and being able to get in a game every few days wasn't helping. But I loved the analog controls for pitching and fielding so I kept at it. I tried the Catcher 9 cam due to other peoples here suggesting it and instantly got better, I actually scored some runs that weren't due to CPU throwing errors! At the end of the day though your enjoyment with the game is what should matter, I have a hard time remembering that when it comes to sports games.

There are all different types of hitters. I just see the ball hit the ball. My friends that were pros would watch video tape on the pitchers they were going to face. So there are all types.

Sorry I went to bed before you asked this. I will influence the stick left or right based on the pitch being inside and out. Also I move it left or right slightly on pitches more down the middle sometimes if I want to move the ball away from the runners.

Cool. My suggestion is really drop it down to veteran.

Been trying vet since you suggested it. I actually hit a lot more popups (funny enough I hit a few more HRs with contact over Power or normal). SO I guess I gotta find out what I was doing before when it worked for me.

Re: Giving up on Pure Analog Hitting

Ok so I just spent 2 hours doing nothing but batting training, swinging at a pitch, checking to see timing and all contact...its not me. Timing, being the only real thing I can control with Analog, is good at least 75% of the time. Yes a few times I get fooled by something off-speed and that's expected.

I do tend to go after the low pitches a bit much so that explains why sometimes I hit a few too many dribblers. However, the thing I can not figure out is that when I swing perfectly timed at a pitch to the outside...even point the right stick to the right when I swing up on it, the PCI shows it is just UNDER the ball.

I have no control over that. None. Lots of the popups I hit too I looked back at them and the PCI shows while I hit the ball, its still under the thing so it induces a popup on a good timed hit. I just don't get it? What do I do? Rookie is too easy...pretty much a HR ever 2-3 AB and Veteran seems to just make the game a HR or popup at the wall for me...

I hate to say it but I don't think analog hitting is for me. Its not that I suck at it, I think, timing wise, I'm quite good in doing everything that I'm supposed to do but the game sucks for me in the aspect that its supposed to control.

I do hit better with seasoned pros and most of my tests are with my RTTS character who I understand shouldn't be winning any batting titles at 21 or 22 years old...but with 80+ contact on both sides, 90+ vision you would think I could do better than .150 BA? Again, MOST of the balls I get a bat on are skied to the OF wall (this is on All-Star and Veteran now).

Sorry about complaining so much about it, I just really want this mode to work because it feels right but if I'm not going to get results for my "hard work" at the plate then what's the point?

Re: Giving up on Pure Analog Hitting

One thing I haven't really seen much mention of is swinging when the stride foot plants on the ground. I find I make a lot of solid contact when I am watching that foot plant. The problem is that there are so many things going on - watch the pitcher's release, watch your foot plant, watch the location, control the stick accurately when you push up to swing. It's no wonder analog is hard. I am using it and I suck, but I really have been improving since moving to Catcher 9 camera or Wide 2 and concentrating on that foot planting for my timing. It doesn't make it any easier when different batters have different strides.

If you're struggling with analog hitting, just play exhibition games on Legend mode (trying to earn the beat LA & NYY trophies myself).

I've probably lost four or five in a row, but I'm making solid contact more often. Like anything... it's a matter of practice and repetition.

Re: Giving up on Pure Analog Hitting

Having some heavy burtations with this analog hitting. Im on allstar.... i can already see the go down a level or practice more... yawn

Analog hitting feels really really really really broken to me. I use guess pitch. I guess fastball down and in. Fastball down and in comes... I foul it off or dont even touch it. Hit the old thumbstick in to see what i did wrong...oh what do you know JUST MISSED AND PERFECT!!!!!! awesome.. Ball is in my circle and everything. I say I get just missed and perfect or just missed and normal 15 times a game.

Another example. Batting right handed... I pick fast ball low and away... Pitch is low and away i softly fly out to right field. Hit the thumbstick....drumroll please solid and late. How can I beat late? If i get a pitch away and hit it to right thats considered PERFECT and doing what you are suppose to do as a batter.

Just lost to the angels with the royals.. Opening day. I gave up 6 hits, 4 of them being homeruns. Peter Bourjos hit a two run homer in kc...upper deck style. It appears every batter in this game has a plate discipline of 80 or higher. And all shortstops in this game and back hand and throw across body and make perfect throws...EVERYTIME..... Wouldnt kill you to have a bad throw and make the first baseman come off the bag.

Computer always gets solid or superb when they make contact. I throw the ball down and away.... for a ball computer fouls it off. Hit the thumbstick thinking ok how did he foul that off. his circle was high and in... but still makes contact on low and away? Whats the point

I almost gave up and went to timing only for a game, but then switched back because I feel like analog batting feels "right" in video game baseball. What helped me is I:
                      1. Slowed down the pitch speed to 0 or 1
                      2. Switched the camera angle to catcher 9? (i think). It's the one where the camera is almost right on top of the hitter. It gave me better depth perception.
                      3. Changed strike frequency to 1 so the cpu would throw more balls.

It has helped, but it's not easy. Veteran level.

+1 as someone who gave up on analog. was too focused on my stride that my pitch selection was horrible.

Re: Giving up on Pure Analog Hitting

To the original poster, man I'm with you 100%. I don't really have much time to be be playing 3-4 games a day. I can squeeze in 2. So for me it was about trying to enjoy this beautiful game. I tried analog all they way up to yesterday and I had to do what I didn't want to and that was make the switch to zone. It takes practice hitting on analog and your timing has to be on point. I think in amonth of playing on analog I hit maybe 2 doubles and the rest were weak singles up the middle and a few HRs. Maybe its just me but I couldn't get my bat on the ball on inside and outside pitches the way I can on zone.

The game was starting to become uncomfortable and as much fun as The Show really is. One of the main reasons I bought this years was for the analog, I still think its great just not for me right now.

I definetly believe that you should enjoy a game like The Show so there is no shame in switching back. Get yourself a nice slider set and you will see how much you can enjoy this game.

I will say this though, I enjoy pitching and fielding on analog very much. ENJOY THE GAME!

I'm telling you that people are over-thinking the stride and stride animations. All I do is pull back just before the pitcher is about to release the ball and I have been doing fine. I do this with every batter in my lineup and have been getting good results with everyone. I don't worry at all about different animatons. I just watch the the ball and always pull back around the same time. It's not as difficult as people are making it out to be.

I like it, but some don't. That's why it's good to have 2 methods of hitting.

I finally won my first game on allstar with analogue pitching. Hopefully my form can continue. For me the secret is patience and lowering the pitch speed a little until you can get some idea of what's coming at you. I'm not even worrying about swinging left or right, that's a step too far for me. But hey, I could be back on Veteran in a day or two.
