I was playing RTTS the other day and have seen a pitcher throwing this "no-name" pitch. It wasn't labeled eephus but was thrown in 50 MPH range with little movement.

The pitcher was Wes Whisler (of ChiSox... from the OSFM roster, full-minor I think...). It wasn't listed in his pitch selection but he threw a couple anyways... totally caught me off guard. Wonder how he got that pitch... Is he one of those created players in the OSFM roster or part of the default SCEA roster?

Curious how it can be used...

Can you get a video for proof?

Well I'm not lying so I don't think there's anything to prove here... and no I didn't keep the video.

But presumably you could hit against Whisler yourself to see... Just use the OSFM full minor roster in an exhibition game. I think he is on ChiSox. Unless the pitch is something he "learned" after I started the RTTS (I'm 4 - 5 years into it), he should be throwing it from the outset.

Sorry for being a bit off topic, but does anyone else find this topic to be hilarious? Like no specific posts, but just the entire premise as a whole. I believe you guys and everything but in my mind I keep imagining myself playing RTTS, and I picture some crazy pitch that defies all physics, and I just start laughing. It reminds me of the Backyard Baseball computer game from back in the day.

I've seen this at least 2 or 3 times, I would've saved a replay but I didn't think it was THAT rare. The replay is very weird; IIRC, the ball is released just at the start of the delivery so the ball takes so long to get to the plate to kinda match up with the delivery so the pitch doesn't reach the plate way early. I played RTTS non-stop during the PSN downtime and it happened a few times. Maybe it only happens in RTTS as I don't recall it happening in other modes. Nor do I recall if it was only during hit and runs, but I don't think it happened during a hit and run.

Is it like an eephus pitch? I saw one thrown against me, the reliever had three pitches in his repertoire, but the first pitch I saw a 50-MPH "None" pitch (which was Square). It looked like it floated up there and just dropped. It might be a bug though.

Re: No Name Pitch? (That ate me alive..)

I just tried to face Whisler again in an exhibition but he didn't throw the no-name pitch... so this no-name pitch just looks like a bug.

Eephus pitch probably was in the game at some point and taken out for some reason... If you go to main menu -> strategy guide -> other -> other -pitch types, eephus is listed at the end (along with gyroball).

It actually makes sense it's a bug... The pitch I saw had movement more akin to change-up or fastball, just a very, very slow version of it. If it was meant to be an eephus pitch, it probably should have a very arching path:

Re: No Name Pitch? (That ate me alive..)

I just had this happen, thrown by Ross Detwiler of the Nationals. Here's the replay video of it:
                      <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px">
                      <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yy6IdlbCF-4?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="390" width="640"></object>

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"></object>The replay looks somewhat different from what it looked like when it happened. The ball bugging out before the release wasn't there when it happened, and it seemed to arc higher, but not quite as high as I'd expect from an eephus pitch.

It was a 50mph pitch with no name and had no spin, just like a knuckleball. Pressing L3 showed the icon for it in purple (i.e. 4th pitch), but Detwiler only has a three-pitch repertoire.

Maybe this could be one of the conditions that need to be satisfied for the no-name pitch to happen. I think I was also facing a pitcher with only three pitches... Mysterious...

Nah, it was just the first pitch of the at bat and the PA guy had just announced the batter's name.

Just had this happen to me. I was facing the Blue Jays. I had read this thread, so I can't believe I didn't look at the name, or save a replay.
But he had three pitches and did it back to back times to me with the bases loaded. He made me hit into a double play with it.

Wow, just came across this thread...that's really interesting stuff. Did anybody ever figure out if it's limited to RTTS, or can it happen during a regular game under certain conditions?
