    Re: Miami Marlins 2012 Stadium

Their stadium never has bugged me that much. It's unique, and it makes me think of Miami and I love everything about Florida. Sometimes I go out of my way to play there. I'm the only one, I'm sure.

Their franchise puzzles me though. Their attendance is one of the worst in sports, yes, but why? Is it because of the stadium? No. Miami has never had support for baseball with their demographics and it's bandwagon central there, more so than any city.

They would draw a few more fans with a nicer stadium, but they wouldn't be selling out. Their attendance problem is because their city does not care about baseball, never has and never will.

So a franchise strapped for cash, builds this outrageous stadium (it looks amazing) but they won't ever fill it up consistently. They have to know this. It's just strange. If they start spending money to keep players, they might have some hope for starting a buzz down there.

But that giant fish tank they are putting behind home plate???? Will be pretty sweet in the show! haha.

Too bad they haven't been able to put in the new stadiums during franchise mode like All Star Baseball did back in the day. Hopefully in the future they can implement this that would be awesome.

Miami is a football city not baseball/basketball whatever other sport. the heat cant sell out with the the team they got also. theres just to much other things to do in miami during the summer then go see the marlins who ruin there chance for fanfare when they sold off there 2 championship teams.

while i agree with everything you said, arent there enough people there to support the team??? Thats what i dont understand even it was 25k which would still make the stadium look empty (the current one) they should be able to draw that cant they?

Being in the Portland Metro Area I was extremely mad when our state senate wouldnt vote for a PRIVATELY funded stadium. We would have have just had to have had a casino in city limits. Which would have been great too! but no our state sucks. We would support a team big time and we would have gotten the Nats if our state gov't didnt suck!

I've known a couple guys from Miami on sites like this for a while, and all I hear is how much that city hops on and off the bandwagon. the Heat had to ask their fans to get to games at tip off, because they always come late. Things like that.

But the same people tell me this new Marlins stadium is really in the middle of nowhere. The Marlins are taking a huge risk with this stadium. I like their team so I hope it works, but I dont know.

its built on the same site as the old Orange Bowl. so it cant be to far from anyhting. just saying in middle winter there the temp never drops below 60 so theres always something to do outside compared to other cities. i dont live in miami i live in tampa and they have just the same problems as miami. rember the game they clinched a playoff spot last year. the rays had to give away 20k tickets to sell the trop out. sad thing is the rays could of won a few world seris titles had fans should up and surpot there team. but also both Stadium suck. i use to live in virginia and went to Nats and o's game all the time and lets just say haveing a good Stadium will draw fans even if the team sucks.

I think the retractable roof will be big, i mean to go to games on a consistant basis with humidity and rain and the delays the weather causes, that can wear out a lot of fans.

I actually live in West Palm Beach, about an hour or so from Miami. They show this new stadium on the Marlins station 24/7 looks amazing. They talk about it on the radio and all that. They tore the Orange Bowl up and built on it for this new place. At first I thought no way am I driving to the dead of Miami to see the Marlins new stadium.

I've gone to a few games at Sunlife and let me tell you I see more people at Spring Training games for the Mets then I do at Sunlife. I have to say though I might take a trip to the new stadium when they open it next year. It simply looks amazing!

It does. Miami is a place I've been wanting to go for ever, I hope to make it down there and then see a game in the future.

Here's a 70 page thread about the stadium with some pictures of what it actually looks like now:

If you scroll 3-4 pages up I think there's pics of inside the stadium. Looks very cool Excited to see it in action. (Not spamming by the way, just helping people out who would want to see)

Sweet, you can tell by the early pics that place is going to be so nice!

being able to control the weather will draw more fans. living in Fla that heat during the afternoon and night hurt fans going to sunlife. plus with an up and coming team think they can be like cleveland when they open there stadium in early 90's.

They also have a webcam stationed in front of it....shows inside/outside of it. You can also look back and follow it being built.

The official website of the Miami Marlins with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

Looking forward to hopefully having it in the game next year up to specs. While I'm not a Houston fan, I was disappointed they didn't get the HD Jumbotron in the game this year.
