Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I'm in about the same boat as DJ. I like pitch speed @ 4, but was still struggling a bit with committing too early, reading pitches, and moving my PCI. I'm doing better with it @ 3 and after some more ABs -- sadly I don't get to play as much as I'd like -- perhaps I'll work my way back up. But if I don't, no worries, as long as I'm enjoying my games.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
yeah, my pitch speed is 0, and I play on Veteran (hitting and pitching, timing hitting and classic pitching) with the sliders somewhat heavily weighted in my favor. And I still don't have blowouts, my pitching might be a little above norm, but my hitting stats are well in line with normal. I'm 3-0 in my test franchise right now (granted it was against PIT) but 2 games were won on late game come from behind heroics, so I could just as easily be 1-2.You do what you want in your association, don't let others ruin the fun. Just because other people say it's cheap doesn't mean you have to let it affect your association, just have fun - Evan_OSComment

The last 2 games I played my pitching got KILLED (runs in the teens), but usually my pitching is solid. My hitting is hit and miss, where one game I blow them up, and the next game I get 3 hits.
If I can get my walks up (I have yet to walk this year, but only have played 5 full games), and lower my Ks (even in games where I score a lot, I am still striking out near double digits, and above, every game), then I will see where my hitting goes. If it is to high, I can adjust some of my hitting sliders down.
To the OP, the key is finding the right balance for you. Sometimes it takes a while to find it, but once you do, you will love the game even more.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I'm at 2, but I can see myself going to 1 or 0.
Especially when you face a guy who has 95+ cheese. Tough to get around on it for this old guy.
My settings look to be the same as Neolithic...I'm playing on Veteran hitting/All Star pitching, using timing hitting and classic pitching.
I'm also considering increasing my timing window or my contact...My pitching is pretty good, but I don't score very many runs.Comment

I've got it set at 8. Makes it pretty realistic in terms of the time you have to recognize a pitch and swing."The best thing about being a football player at Alabama...winning...winning." -Mark Barron

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I've played with pitch speed at zero before; it's so relative it barely even matters: I was still late on plenty of fastballs and early on a lot of off-speed stuff. It's not like the timing window gets any bigger, you still have to swing at the right time, etc. You might strike out a bit (or a lot) less, but it's not like you're gonna start scoring 15 runs a game all of a sudden.

If a drink is too warm, do you put ice in it? It's your game fix it the way you enjoy it best. That is what the slider options are designed for. No need to apologize for toning down a slider. Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I lowered mine 1 notch, and I get much better contact. Same with last year.
For some reason, for me, on default, the "perfect timing" feels early. I feel like i'm swinging too early, but the game says it's "perfect". If I swing when I'm comfortable, it says, "I'm too late"
So I lower it one notch and when appropriate I get perfect timing, and still have my share of whiffs on changeups and sliders.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I lowered mines down to 3. i move most of the hitting sliders up a little bit since playing on legend in rtts with a scrub is extremely difficulty.
There are games/stretches where i barely get one hit. I'm getting better at locating picth and pitch type.
Goal is to be able to play on legend everything with default sliders or a great test of sliders.
I'll probably would hit more if i was playing with real players.
Lot of my swings end up being checks.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I've noticed the higher the pitch speed setting the more check swings I have lol.
So that could be telling me the pitch speed I have it on is to fast or it's right on the edge of being to fast.
Perhaps if I went down 1 it would decrease my check swings just guessing of course.Comment

This is one of the several things I look for when finding mine. If I'm checking a lot, I lower the speed.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I would certainly welcome the decrease in check swings however I am a tad concerned that if I lower it hitting will become a lot easier.Comment

You're all losers, if you can't handle the game the way its made, don't buy it.
Just kidding.
I had pitch speed at 3 for a very long time. Don't let anyone tell you how to enjoy the game unless they helped you pay for it.Comment
