Re: Does anyone play this game for fun anymore?

Agree countryboy, I think people forget that in the end it's just a video game. Part of the problem is this development team has set the standards so high. When you compare it to what we used to have it's no comparison.

Best thing they did though was give us 30 team control so even if there is something that happens we don't like and we want to run a realistic franchise we can just by simply rolling up our sleeves and doing some of the dirty work.

I know some people think that's too time consuming and we shouldn't have to do it but if a realistic franchise is what gives you enjoyment, why not do it? Besides most of the stuff is offseason stuff. After you play a season, why not take a couple of hours to make sure the offseason goes exactly like you want it to go? Then you can start the next season and not worry about it again for 6 months....especially since the new patch improved trade logic.

Re: Does anyone play this game for fun anymore?

I love this game, and I can't remember the last time I came here to complain about something.

That being said, this is an internet gaming forum. If I got all bent out of shape every time I read a stupid complaint in a patch related thread(or any thread..), I'd have a hard time coming back here with any regularity. These guys usually get called out in whatever thread they're throwing their tantrum in, and that's about where it ends for me.

I'm sure 99% of the people who purchase this game play it to have fun. Unfortunately, the other 1% are a very vocal minority, and that's probably the way it's always going to be. Those of us that are happy with the game are to busy enjoying it to post as much as the guys who look for every little thing to complain about.
      Now, more than ever

          Amen.

It's one of the reasons I don't mess with sliders. I got tired of trying to make the game "perfect." Now I just focus on having fun. So far MLB 11 is providing just that for me.

Re: Does anyone play this game for fun anymore?

The thing is everybody plays the game for a reason. Some people play the game to play on the field everygame of a 162 game season I play to develop a team through the draft and freeagency neither which works particularly well.
Then i play games to play with the playere i developed and put together. Couple that with the fact that the SAME problem made it through 2 installments of the title that hinders my ability to due that in a manner in which is even semi realistic. So I'll play the game for fun when I'm able to play the game the way I want to play it for fun.

Re: Does anyone play this game for fun anymore?

I always play this game (or any game) for fun, why play if you are not having fun? However, some of the major bugs and glitches have been around for more than one installment of the series and this greatly hinders the fun for a lot of people. I'm one to play the season mode as franchise mode, and I play 29 game seasons to play several seasons but playing several seasons has always been broken. In my opinion, this series has always underperformed until this year as I've felt that High Heat has been the better game all the way until this year. Last year, I barely even played 10 much because there was basically no gameplay improvements plus the online was horrible with all the centerswinging, 10 was not much fun so I didn't play it much. This year, the new improved zone hitting system is great, I can finally no longer hit over .300 on Legend and lead the league in HRs (that is not fun). The power swing is no longer broken and unbalanced. The new analog pitching system, while too accurate, is great. There's still several things to improve, batting and pitching still could be better and online has always had bad netcode, this is the 5th installment of this series on the PS3 and online still has not gotten the BASICS down yet.

With all that said, I'm back to having fun playing virtual baseball again as I've been loving 11 since day 1, and the new patch seems to have fixed a lot of things. I don't think people would be posting as negatively if there were barely any major issues or glitches.

Ok...now that is out of the way.....

Does anyone play this game for the fun and enjoyment anymore? I swear the game or a patch drops and the first thing people do is search for things that are "broken" or "not working properly". Look I understand its different strokes for different folks, but damn...doesn't anyone just play the game and let whatever happens...happen, such as myself?

I think in the era in which patches are now available, some seek the perfect game and will not accept enjoyment from anything less. People would rather criticize instead of enjoy...they would rather worry more about what the game does wrong, instead of enjoying what it does right.

It seems that people have these predetermined ideas as to what moves should be made, how many trades should occur, how many times it should rain, how this should happen and that. Instead of playing the game as is, and getting lost in their own virtual fantasy baseball world, where yes, maybe an Albert Pujols gets signed by the Brewers, the Cubs win the World Series(sorry Cubs' fans), and the "unrealistic" becomes your virtual reality.

I hate to say this folks, but if you're going to get all caught up in whats wrong with the game, instead of enjoying the many things that are right, well then you're missing out on one helluva baseball game.

Having said that, I'll now return you to your normal search and seizure of everything this game does wrong, the criticisms of the dev team because the game isn't perfect, and the search of how to enjoy the game even though it isn't perfect. Myself, I'll return back to my franchise, which by the way, I am enjoying.
Great post! I enjoy some semblance of realism (i.e. I enjoy starting my 'chise with Knight's full minors), but, once I start my 'chise, I don't do 30-team control. I don't worry about if Pujols signs with the Marlins, Dodgers or Mets. I just don't let it get to me. I'm with you, this is my baseball world and what the CPU does is its business. With that being said, I also will not purposely cheat or "cheese" the CPU in a trade. If I am dealing with the CPU, I will offer fair return value for what they may be offering me. Other than that, I'm not too anal about the rest of the game.

Re: Does anyone play this game for fun anymore?

Great post CB! I couldn't have said it better.

I know some people have different ideas of fun, but sometimes it seems like some find fun in finding what's broken, or how it can be broken LOL. IMO, game logic will never match real-life "logic" because that logic goes against the probabilities of baseball, because "feelings" are usually a part of it IRL.

I too, prefer to have my fun by actually playing the game, every game. So I am 100% certain I will never make it to 2014 (or whatever year it supposedly "glitches") using that method. If the CPU makes some "crazy" moves, so be it, it's their team LOL.

So to answer your question, YES. (I'm one that fits into that "playing for fun" category.)
