I think dropping down levels at times helps. I wasn't hitting anything on veteran, went to rookie and really starting picking up now to the point where I feel I need to go back to veteran. The game definitely humbles you like that.

If there is one thing I've figured out, I know I did something wrong if my timing is 'Perfect'. I don't think I've ever gotten a solid hit out of a Perfect.Comment

Re: I'm out my HITTING SLUMP and HERE'S WHY...
This seems like a problem within the game they need to fix next year because perfect timing shoots it right towards 2nd base and if you make solid contact it usually turns into nothing more than an easy pop fly to CFComment

Re: I'm out my HITTING SLUMP and HERE'S WHY...
If this has been covered already I apologize...
I'm in a new RTTS with a hitter, so his ratings are pretty low. 40/40 contact vs. L and R, 38/38 power vs. L and R.
I'm playing on timing hitting and need some swing recommendations. For instance, due to my low contact and power ratings, am I better served using the contact swing 99.9% of the time regardless of the situation or can I get by with the regular swing? And when would you recommend using the power swing? I mess around with the power swing in BP before a game and will hit some moonshots, but the only time I've made good contact in a game using a power swing it died at the warning track (ball was up on the zone and I thought I crushed it) for an F7.Comment

Re: I'm out my HITTING SLUMP and HERE'S WHY...
Ok i still can't hit and it's become one of the more frustrating things i've ever experienced.
1) Batting practice drills. I do them. I don't get better. What do i need to be doing/taking from them to help improve? Do i follow along with what the goal is or should i create my own sort of strategy?
2) My biggest problem is recognition and adjusting which in turn affects overall timing. Nothing is ever what it seems kind of thing. If i'm swinging fastball it's a changeup, slider, etc. If i think it's gonna be offspeed it ends up being a fastball. Same thing with location. Pitches that look like they may stay in the zone on the way to the plate suddenly move out of it as i'm swinging. I can't see ball, hit ball because half the time what i think i'm seeing isn't so.
Adjusting - what i mean by this is if i'm looking for a fastball and get a slider, curve, change i can't adjust to them well enough to hit them. The swing is often early and occasioanally late. Now the usual advice here is " wait for pitch". Well if you have two strikes u can't do that. Also there are times when these breaking balls are not "junk" but rather end up hanging in the fat part of the zone. Instead of constantly being buckled/frozen, swinging early i want to learn to get to the point where i can adjust and hit this pitch in this situation at least 50% of the time. It doesn't have to be a base hit but at least put into play. Any advice here? I'm referring to maybe some type of techniques and not just slider adjustmentLast edited by C_Bailey24; 07-04-2011, 12:41 PM.Comment

Re: I'm out my HITTING SLUMP and HERE'S WHY...
Like I wrote about above, hitting is a right side of the brain action. You have to do to a point where you turn off the analytical left side of your brain.
Maybe just try to not think about anything for a while. Know what a pitcher has in his arsenal but just react to what you see.
The great Rod Carew said he never "looked" for a pitch because he may never see it in that at bat. So he just hit what ever pitch was thrown to him.
For practice, I use timing as a warm up but it is the most important drill. Hitting is Timing. I try to get 16-18 in this drill. Then I move to discipline. No real goals here. Just like to train my eye to lay off bad balls. Lastly, I'll use recongition and swing all everything as they will throw a lot of breaking balls hangers (more than the timing drill), so its good to work on your offspeed timing there. Then start a franchise or 2 with a team you no emotional attachment too. Keep track of your Foul balls and misses. Work towards trying to hit the the MLB averages in those areas.
Overall man, Just enjoy the game and keep playing. The more you stress the more you will swing and miss.Madden Breakdowns Full YOUTUBE Playlist

Re: I'm out my HITTING SLUMP and HERE'S WHY...
Something else I noticed, my RTTS manager doesn't like sitting me, so my guy's been battling wrist injuries throughout his career. It seems like it does show if a manager is trying to play a player through an injury. I'm not nearly as speedy if my guy has a minor leg injury.Comment

I didn't realize using 'O' in a two-strike count would help you keep fighting pitches off, though, so thanks for that.Comment

Trying the approach of just reacting to what i see ...Rangers vs White Sox i'm batting for both teams, pitch speed on 1. Currently the two teams have 2 hits between them. It's hard to enjoy have fun with this game hitting like this smhComment

Re: I'm out my HITTING SLUMP and HERE'S WHY...
Is there any key to finding the gaps in the field?
I hit a lot of balls, but they're pretty much always an out. Either a groundout to the infield, or a well hit flyball which is caugh because it goes so high in the air. I use analogue hitting, rookie and a low pitch speed slider (2 I believe), but what frustrates me most are the flyouts especially when they're well hit (perfect/superb on the R3 thingy). Is it just bad luck?Comment

Yeah, I thought so. Just frustrating! I'll keep plugging away and I'll hopefully find the gaps more often.Comment

Re: I'm out my HITTING SLUMP and HERE'S WHY...
I feel like I'm always "just under" every flyball out. It's never a linedrive, always an easy flyout. Hit 4 HR's in my first 9 games and one of the was an inside-the-park'er.Comment
