heroesandvillians, thanks a bunch. I feel as if all your threads give me tons of insight, man. I play as my hometown Brewers and have such a hard time recreating the stats. I also wanted to use Classic but pitched too many gems. As for winning ballgames, man, do I struggle. I get the hits I need (HR from Braun, Fielder, Hart) to get runs on the board, yet I just cannot keep them from scoring. Grienke can be going calmly into the 8th and all hell breaks loose. I bring in the reliever, and that doesn't stop anything. Been using your tips lately, seems to be working went 7-5 on the last road trip.

Re: The Difference Between Wins & Losses (Tips)

Since starting the thread, I think I'm 2-4. LOL!

But, I'm MUCH happier with how the games have been going. My bullpen is finally giving me respectable innings, and in every game, I've had an opportunity to tie or win. That's all I can really ask for. You know, a fighting chance. Hearing from you guys has made that possible.

Last night, I pitched one of my best team games of the season. 2 runs allowed, 11 K, 0 BB!!! Considering I just about lead the league in BB allowed, I've gotta admit, I was pretty proud of myself with this one.

However, Tim Hudson carried a no-no into the 5th. I was able to coax 3 BB from him, but when you only put up 1 run on 4 hits...wins are definitely not easy to come by.

I think I've got Pittsburgh coming up. Time to get back to .500.

Gosh, the beginning of the season for the Brewers is rough. 3 in Cincy then 4 against Atlanta. Granted, the second series is in Miller but its hard to keep the Braves silent. Especially without Greinke till mid-April! Bullpen is so shaky, as well. (Restarted due to sliders/corrupted data [had been transferring with a flash drive])
Is it normal to be nervous while in a jam? I find my palms get super sweaty, hands kinda shake (maybe its the vibrate LOL) and I just get nervous which makes me miss my spots. Makes me feel like I'm actually in the game LOL!

            Is it normal? No.

            Are games normally this realistic?

            Again, I say no.

When I win games, I get the impulse to text all my friends. But, since I want to KEEP the handful of friends I have, I usually slide in a Show story or two in-between their (one of them specifically) Resistance 2 sagas. If HE forces me to put up with that crap, the least he can do is listen to me ask aloud about whether or not I should have let Lincecum go out for the 8th.

He usually says I should have... And then I remind him that he knows nothing about baseball.

I actually found it fine. Thanks again. Too bad Pelfrey melted down and I got owned by the Fins bullpen...one inning at least. Then proceeded to go bananas on me because I had to cancel a throw from second cuz I felt it was offline (thanks to me slicing the tip of my finger off at work last week haha) and it prolonged the inning. Logan Morrison hit a moonshot. At least their runs were off of my mistake pitches. I'm just glad to finally having my franchise all set up with my sliders and all to try and do something wih my METSies. All of these help threads are really worth reading, and defensive posistioning actually works. Happy Showing peoples and LET'S GO METS!!!

Having your sliders locked in is a great feeling! I went into my Giants franchise thinking I was still testing.

But, low and behold, my stats are all very respectable. So, now...minus maybe a click here or there... I'm off to the races without actually having to really change anything important...

Re: The Difference Between Wins & Losses (Tips)

Perfect example of wins/losses of Bullpen Management. I was up 2-1 after a Prince HR in the 1st and 6.2 innings of 1-run ball from Marco Estrada. He gets in a slight jam (runners on first and third with two outs). Chipper Jones is coming to the plate and I make the decision to bring in Zach Braddock, a lefty out of the pen. This forced Chipper to move to the right side of the plate, making him less dangerous. He ends up flying out to Morgan in center to end the threat.
Next inning, I go down 1-2-3, and bring in Gomez to play LF (instead of old geezer Kotsay). I keep Braddock in to face McCann and Heyward (both lefties, for those who don't know :P) and he proceeds to strikeout McCann and get Heyward to pop out to the Catcher. He's obviously feeling it and I have Axford/Kameron Loe warming up. With Uggla coming up, I'm in a tough spot. He is 2-2 already today, with 2 two-baggers (against Estrada [a righty]). I end up bringing in Loe, playing the chess match, which ends up backfiring as Uggla takes the 9th pitch of the at-bat over the left field wall to tie the game at 2.
Fast forward to the 9th, and its a tie game and if I can get through the 7-8-9 hitters, I have Braun and Fielder coming up in the bottom-half. I bring in Axford (using the 'best pitcher in 9th' philosophy) and he proceeds to walk the first guy, give up a hit to the next. They pinch hit Matt Young for the pitcher. He hits a grounder to Fielder who gets the force at 2nd and can't get back to the bag as Young beats out the play. Now 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the inning, Prado ends up doubling down the left field line and scoring one. Chipper pops out but McCann triples and blows the inning open. I get out of it, down 5-2, which could've easily been a 2-1 victory for the Crew. I end up losing, of course.

                    Iliveforthis,

I think you managed your bullpen perfectly. Consider that a win in itself.

I faced the same dilemma against Chipper myself last night. Lefty or righty? I opted to use my lefty reliever and it worked like a charm. Just like you did before the 9th.

You also made the right call in allowing your LRP get multiple left-handed outs.

I'd wager; if you continue to manage your bullpen in this fashion consistently, you'll win more games than you lose.

tough one, I would have walked Uggla. Clearly dude is either on a hot streak or the beginning of one in this game.

Yeah, it sure is. I found some analog sliders that I dig, a franchise file with everyone on the DL, and I had to restart twice due to a camera problem. Just got that squared away and now I'm off haha I'm just changing some edits with batting gloves etc. And I'm just ready to roll now...

Thanks for the consolement, guys. It was tough to swallow. McCann pouring on 2 more with a triple to center after Morgan couldn't pull it in pretty much stabbed me in the heart. Hoping to even the series by winning the next two games of the four game series (with Gallardo and Marcum pitching) and be 4-3 on the young season. Cannot wait till Grienke comes back, along with Hart and Lucroy. Having an everyday catcher of Wil Nieves or George Kotteras is AWFUL. Thought of signing Bengie Molina but I can't let myself do it.
Also, about walking Uggla, A-Gon was on-deck who was 1-1 on the game with a RBI Double in the second, so it was kind of pick-and-choose my fate.
Also, is it pointless to have two leftys in my Pen? With Parra out for the year, I have Braddock and Stetter in there now. Just wondering if that's an overload of lefties or what?

Great questions on the lefties! It's perfect for this thread.

Personally, I always carry two when possible. No more, no less.

                              1. You can play the matchups twice.

                              2. If one goes south...*cough* Javy Lopez...you'll be able to go to a reliable lefty at least once when it counts.

Stetter led the league in '09 I believe, in OPPBA as he only faced lefties. So, I'm glad to have him yet Braddock is a rookie and young. Could become dangerous. I'll keep them both.
Now, what are some good Long Relief pitchers out there? I HATE Sergio Mitre. Talk about a journeymen. He is awwwwwwwful. I believe when Grienke comes back, I'll just send Mitre down and keep Estrada in the Bigs to fill that role, now that I think about it. Also, cannot wait to have Hawkins back to solidify that 7-8 inning slot. Kameron Loe is good IRL, but that doesn't translate over very well, LOL.
