You have to hold it until you hit L2. After you hit L2 you are free to release it.

It's always Left Stick + L2. Classic Baserunning uses the same interface for the base-stealing area of baserunning, the only differences in controls come after the ball is in play.

If the runner is currently on first, press L2 while holding right on the left analog stick. Up for 2nd, Left for 3rd.

hmmm wonder what I did wrong. I got a situation last night with 1st and 3rd and figured why not try to lead off the 1st base runner like you said.... LEFT thumb stick RIGHT towards 1st base....then L1 to lead off.....but both runners began moving not just the one of 1st base.....

Maybe I didn't push the left stick to the runner soon enough to select?

You have to press L1 (L2 to steal) while HOLDING the left stick towards the runner you want (in this case, right for the runner on 1st)

sweet! works like a charm! Was able to lead off my 1st base runner and not the one on 3rd. Didnt try to steal though but good enough for me! Thanks guys, only took a few months to learn this haha

Do I keep holding L2 when stealing or do I keep pressing it multiple times for baserunner to run from say 1st to 2nd, do I need to do anything with the left analog stick after he starts running? Thanks!

1 - only need to press L2 once.

2 - if you want to control another runner afterwards, point it towards him and press the button of the desired base (the runner thats lit on the HUD is the one that will go)

Ok, thanks, I was under the wrong imperssion keep pressing L2 will make the runner keep running and run faster?

The R-stick works! I had runners and 1st and 3rd (Seattle) and was able to get Ichiro to steal 2B while Ackley stayed put at third. Very happy to see that.

I just held the thumb stick right....clicked the lead off button a few times (L!) then to steal I hit L@ then left go of every thing....just like stealing normally
