So basically you want a game where ratings dont play a huge deal? Stick skills can only take you so far in this game and I love it. Otherwise youd have an arcade game lite. I dont understand what you really want here...

Yeah you either want a arcade style baseball game where it is all about stick skills and just pure button press timing (if you don't use analog). Or do want the game to give you as close to a real to life sim based on ratings, hot and cold streaks, pitcher batter matchups, cold and hot zones.. etc etc etc.
Again I go back to the great table top board games like Stratomatic and Statis Pro.
The Show IMO gives us that feel but in all it's 720P Blue Ray glory. It is as close to a baseball sim as it can be and you can control to a certain degree as much or as little as you want.
A perfect example is I use auto fielding but manual throwing. I love how the game plays and looks letting the ratings of my fielders determine the catch but i want to control the throws.
I use auto slides, assisted baserunning. But I do steal and send and stretch my hits as I see fit.
I focus on Hitting and pitching.
The game gives you many options. Dial down your hitting to Rookie and the hits and HR's will flow. All-Star is not easy by any means for most.
But the core foundation of The Show is it is a baseball sim video game first and foremost and tries to not be an arcady video game.
Maybe the game is not for you. Because I do not see them changing this. The game is too successful with their current formula.Now Playing on PS5:

Advice to the TC.
I understand the frustrations. I've bought /played this game since its inception. What I have done to continue to play / enjoy the game is to accept it for what it is and what it has to offer.
I too feel that all too often the games outcome is pre determined. This argument has been discussed many times on this forum by many different people and while I have never chimed in until now that is the case, imo.
But I'm not here to argue, only offer some advice to the TC. I have come to enjoy the game for what it is and no longer want to break my controller into pieces. Go into each game thinking you are going to see some things that are going to be questionable and accept it for what it is.

SCEA seems to puts out a product in an attempt to recreate a real MLB experience.
Consider their philosophy on using animation transitions with user assisted fielding. Sure, there are segments of the baseball video game population that want COMPLETE control over fielding. I can understand that. But, as a result, the game would look very choppy. Players would blow full force along the path of a line, only to stop on a dime the very moment the user decided to initiate the catch. It would look ugly without these transitions. Very unrealistic. As a result, you will probably NEVER see them completely change this and hand over uninterupted control to the player...besides, don't they reserve the right to protect the integrity of their product?
Realism seems to be what SCEA strives for because Major League Baseball is a REAL entity, not a fantasy world.
Granted, I'd be taking a giant leap in assuming that SCEA doesn't want the 2011 KC Royals to succeed. But, you need to consider that this company knows their baseball, and they want to put out a true-to-life product. This is why they work so hard in incorporating player ratings.
That said, they also give us three hitting/pitching interfaces, five difficulty levels, and sliders to boot. The game is almost entirely customizable.
Still, at it's core and out of the box, there's a not so hidden quality guarantee from this company that they will do their damnedest to bring us the most complex competitive game on the planet in a realistic manner.
If you want to rake with KC, then edit each of their player's ratings. It's your game, so it's none of my business. But, for the rest of us, understand that we get joy out of hitting .220 with Craig Counsell...no matter how good our video game skills are.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 06-24-2011, 04:10 PM.Comment

have you ever played PYS? You should try it, it has a lot of things you are looking for and is imho the best baseball game out there. The Show is good and without a doubt the best MLB-game but hitting was never one of the brightest parts of the game, we just have to accept that. I pray every day that Konami gets an MLB-license, they would kick The Show's ***...Hitting in that game, TO ME, was fun, pure, realistic, challenging, and rewarding. Something about the whole hitting aspect of the Show just doesn't do it for me.
However, I understand how so many do. It's not the Zone hitting system I don't like, it's the feel of the hits and batted balls (i.e. trajectory, etc.)
To me, it never feels like you are PULLING a ball, slapping it to the opposite field, or totally CRUSHING a pitch. I never FEEL the hit like I did in MVP.

I play PYS as well and I think the reason people think what you're saying is it's different.
IMO PYS has too many hard hit line drives. Now, I don't watch or know much about Japanese baseball, so that may be the norm for their game over there.
Bold statement at the end there,.......it would be a good game IMO, but definitely not vastly superior. Not even close.

yES CPU DOES ENTER INTO THE GAMES. bUT IF YOU USE THE LEFT STICK AND CORRECTLY CHOOSE THE PITCH LOCATIONS YOU WILL GET GREAT RESULTS. tHATS JUST THE WAY THE GAME IS . As in REAL LIFE if the batter guess where the pitch will end he gets great result. Not always a hit but a great swing. If you read Noob hitting tips YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO HIT. If you look behind a pitcher , at an object that does not move when the pitcher is in wind up you will pick up the pitch.Well said, Knight. Too many people who complain about this topic make no mention of the pitcher's input into the equation. The hitter isn't hitting the ball off a tee.
I also disagree with the timing statement more closely resembling real life than the others. You mention you decide to swing and your hand-eye coordination takes over telling you where to swing (in real life). That action would be closer to both analog and zone than timing, where both of them require your hand-eye coordination to tell you where to swing.Comment

While PYS is a great game, an MLB license doesn't equate to anything. The developers obviously seem to capture their players well. I'm sure you feel don't feel the same way when you play FIFA and a canadian based developer fails to capture the Germans correctly...
The hitting engine does seem to be more user influenced in PYS and that's not a bad thing. They have a nice balance and does seem to be something the OP would enjoy more. But that last statement is a complete joke, opinion or not. In my humble opinion, Bigtone has a much more valid point than people give him credit for. There is a fine line sports video games have to walk between simulation and fun. No doubt it is hard to do. This is a great game. BUT - I have been playing his game religiously since the Ps2 days and it appears in the last 2 years SCEA has crossed that line.
I am Met fan. I know my team sucks. If I wanted to watch the misery of having Jason Bay hit .220 I would just turn on the TV every night. Why do i have to be subjected to it playing vide games as well? The whole point is supposed to be this virtual world where I could make the Mets condensers if I try hard enough. I don't want Bay or every other player to be like Barry Bonds don't get me wrong....but i at least want the chance to have that kind of season if MY USER INPUT is up to par.

In the end, yes, this game is by far the best baseball game ever made. I don't want to hit 80 hrs or have every player hitting over .300. At the same time, when I do something correctly (which in this game is very hard to do on the out-of-the box settings which is how I play) then I don't want a perfect/just missed message because when that happens then I am merely a spectator. The majority of my swings are not perfectly timed. Some have tried to take my words out of context and tell me I want an arcade experience. I have repeated that I can live with a perfectly timed swing resulting in a hard hit ball that results in an out. Some of the best balls that I ever hit in real life have ended up in someone's glove. That is the nature of baseball. I understand the defending of the game, but also understand that everyone is entitled to their opinions. Thanks to everyone for their responses whether favorable to me or not.Comment

Bigtone... Adjust the sliders, that's what they are there for... To fine tune the difficulty.
I'm playing on All-Star with timing hitting, and have pretty much every slider maxed out in my favor... It loosens up the game quite a bit, without really even changing it that much or making it too arcade like.
I'm telling you, start with "Solid Hits" and boost that up to 10. Then go to practice mode and take some swings in timing mode (where they throw all strikes) and you should feel a difference right away.
If it still doesn't feel right, boost "Timing" up to 10. This will give you a wider window of opportunity.
After that you can boost "Contact" as well.
I think you will find that I am right... That when you boost these sliders it will reward you more for timing a pitch right, and make it feel less like the game is out of your control.
Bottom line is I think with timing hitting the default sliders aren't very realistic, and so I think they need adjusting.All ties severed...Comment
