Re: Whats your best FAIR trade
I'm doing a total control, 30-team franchise where I manage every team's roster moves. On July 5 (in the game), I swung a 3-team deal that was both fair and realistic. This was originally posted in the "Trade Discussion" thread.
Rays (57-31) Receive
CP Heath Bell (3.04 ERA, 22/24 SV)
Nationals (50-37) Recieve:
CF B.J Upton (.268, 14 HR, 53 RBI)
Padres (42-46) Receive:
SP Alex Cobb (From Tampa- Age 23, 3.66 ERA with 65 SO in 73 IP in AAA)
C Derek Norris (From Washington- Age 22, #2 Prospect in system. Hitting .255 with 12 HR in AA)
SP Sammy Solis (From Washington- Age 22, #6 prospect in system. Pitching in Class-A)
Why it made sense:
San Diego, sitting 9 games out of first place and even further back in the NL wild card race, wanted to ensure that it received something worthwhile for Bell. GM Jed Hoyer considered keeping Bell until the end of the season, offering arbitration, and receiving 2 compensatory first-round selections for Bell as a Type A free agent. Instead, he opted to fill a long-term need at catcher with Norris, who should see the majors at some point in 2012. Nick Hundley (.215/.277/.332) is not the answer behind the plate. He also brings in a projected middle-of-the rotation starter in Solis and a #4/#5 guy in Cobb.
Washington, the surprise of the season to this point, possessed one major and glaring weakness: center field. Roger Bernardina (.216) and Laynce Nix (.173) have both been miserable, and free agent signee Rick Ankiel has spent most of the year on the disabled list. GM Mike Rizzo desperately wanted a young yet proven center fielder with whom the team could move forward in the next several years, and they were able to acquire one by dealing from positions of strength. In particular, the Nats' glut of catchers enabled them to make the move, as Wilson Ramos is having a fine season and projects as the team's backstop for the foreseeable future. Upton immediately slides in to the #2 spot in the lineup behind hot-hitting shortstop Ian Desmond.
Tampa Bay was the primary initiator of this deal, originally contacting San Diego about Bell's availability. When it became clear that the two could not match up well enough to finalize a deal, GM Andrew Friedman contacted Rizzo to offer Upton. Meanwhile, the Rays fired the opening salvo in the battle for the AL East, where Tampa (57-31), Boston (57-31), and New York (54-34) are primed for an incredible second-half race. The Rays felt they needed to immediately upgrade their closing situation, where Kyle Farnsworth had converted 24 out of 30 saves with a 5.41 ERA. He will now be moved back to an 8th-inning role. Though he was having a fine year, the Rays are unlikely to miss Upton due to the arrival of center fielder Desmond Jennings, the organization's top hitting prospect. Through the first half of the year in Triple-A, Jennings was hitting .312 with 12 homers and 55 RBI to go along with 28 stolen bases. He was immediately promoted to the majors and will take on the everyday role in center field, teaming with Matt Joyce and Johnny Damon in the outfield. Former left fielder Sam Fuld was dealt several weeks ago to the White Sox.Comment

Re: Whats your best FAIR trade
Thanks for the compliment. I've made a fair amount of moves, though this was the most noteworthy. I'm at July 21 right now so the trade deadline is 10days away.Comment

Re: Whats your best FAIR trade
Doug Davis from Jacoby Ellesbury, Adrian Gonzalez, and David Ortiz.
Totally a perfect deal. This trade would TOTALLY happen in real life. In fact, I'm sure it was in the works, but idn't get done before the trade-deadline! The trade logic is SO realistic!

Re: Whats your best FAIR trade
Stassi is a B prospect this year so your trade seems realistic....But remember jus cause a prospect doesnt fare well in one year, doesnt automatically mean he's a bum....Im wondering how Stassi did in the previous 4 years....also wondering if u promoted him, kept him there then brought him back down etc....A prospect needs to show for a decent amount of time that he's worthy of being promoted....Again idk how stassi was used...just throwing an assumption out there.....NCAAF: Miami Hurricanes
NCAAB: Miami Hurricanes
MLB: Atlanta Braves
NFL: Atlanta Falcons
NBA: Atlanta Hawks
MMA: Melvin Guillard, Chael Sonnen, Dan Hardy, & Thiago SilvaComment
