While I understand the annoyance, the game really cannot distinguish if you screw up or you simply don't know how to play.

Yes, hearing the same critical comments over and over can be annoying (though I just don't take those things seriously myself), but for a kid who really doesn't know the intricacy of the game and how to play baseball in general, those commentary *can* serve a purpose by teaching them how to play it better.

I'm guessing the devs include those lines for educational reasons to an extent.

Then let's have an option for kid or adult/rookie or major league commentary.

        Re: The Repetitive Commentary Thread

The repetitiveness doesn't bother me, that's just a problem when you play the game a lot, it gets stale.

What they really need is some emotion for big events. Listening to my home announcers when my team drills a big game-changing homerun is exciting. Listening to "And it's a homerun...." for the umpteenth time just sucks.

And I know it's probably hard to do this but it would be great to get some excitement as players round the bases. Someone rips a double to the alley or something with players on 1st and 2nd should have that rapid banter you get from announcers: "Utley hits one into the gap left-center, rollins rounds third and heads for home, chase digging for two, and here comes victorino rounded third and headed for home, the throw to the plate.... NOT IN TIME! Two runs score and the Phillies take the lead in the bottom of the 8th, 4-3!"

One thing The Show has down is the crowd sounds in high-pressure situations. Crowd gets on its feet and gets louder and louder as your player works a better count. But they still get the lull if a pitch is fouled off or taken for a strike, etc.

I know this is probably hard to do/way too expensive, but maybe have the announcers watch as the play they are saying the line for unfolds. Right now it sounds like they just read from a sheet with little emotion. Maybe seeing the play unfold in front of them will get them into it a little more. Even a repetitive but more emotional commentary would be better than what we have.

This is probably the only major criticism I have with The Show. While everything else could always be better, the commentary is pretty lackluster compared to the rest of the game.

Actually, the sounds in general are good but I feel like some need way more oomph to them, especially bat contact. I wanna hear that I just crushed that ball 400+ ft.
        What would Doc do?

          Re: The Repetitive Commentary Thread

This is not repetitive because it's apparently never said but should be: I switched teams and on purpose struck out over 20 times, but the announcers never said anything about going for the major league strikeout record. All they said was he got another one and b-o-r-i-n-g. The pitcher broke the major league record for strikeouts and not one single mention of that was said.

No offense but if you want simulation baseball with authentic commentary you're going to have to suck it up and swallow your pride. I admit the commentary needs improvement but you can't have it both ways. Either they emulate real baseball commentary, or they don't.
True..... I agree that there needs to be a level of criticizing in the commentary but they don't need to say such insulting comments that are just meant to anger you more ...Maybe I think this because I'm a Dodger fan and have listened to Vin Scully call games and when he makes comments and on the rare occasions he criticizes a player's decision he does it with class and doesn't use slapstick

They could just say "he swung at a bad pitch outside" they don't need to say "He would of needed an oar to hit that" OR "He looked like he was trying to catch a butterfly with a net"

Do other commentators really say these things ???

Tim McCarver was very critical at times, though I haven't listened to him for a long time so I don't know if he has changed.

Old-school types like Vin Scully, who lived in a period where decency still was appreciated, are known to be gentle and tender and sweet.... He has his style which makes him a legend obviously, but when I moved from Metsdom to a Dodger town and started listening to Scully, I actually felt a bit lacking at first.

So each to his own I guess.

BwanaKuu, I'm too lazy to quote your post, but the very last sentence in your post is actually a reality; SCEA/Russell confirmed all-new sounds and stuff. And I agree withe everything else you said.

I know both New York teams' commentators definitely aren't afraid to criticize. Same with the Rays & Marlins. I've watched a few Red Sox games randomly and it's the same, they point out the stupid things players do for the most part. It could just be an east coast thing though, since we are known to be overly-critical about just about everything.

I personally don't mind being criticized at all. I like hearing analyses, even if I'm the one being analyzed. I do agree The Show could do with adding more substance to their lines. Not everything needs to be a joke or one-liner.

Soup: "I am really surprised by their inability to score, this is normally a potent offense!" He starts belting out this line around the 3rd inning.

Karros's line on how the pitch count is already 50 through 3 1/3. Considering the average of about 145 pitches per 9 INN per team, that's a pretty normal pitch count I'd say... The comment is made way too often.

I think most of the problems come from the fact that most of the commentary is obviously read off a script. It even seems at times like these announcers aren't even recording the lines in the same room. The commentary is robotic and doesn't feel organic at all. I think the interaction between the commentators needs to be redone. Let them talk and just flow instead of making their banter scripted.

Yes, but in that instance, isn't he referring to that pitcher individually?

Yeah but it's still 50 / 3.33 = 15.2 pitches per inning, which isn't such a high pitch count is it. He'd last through 6 - 7 innings on that pace even on a 100 pitch limit. The comment makes sense if it's 20 pitches per inn or so...

Matt: "He looks like he is swinging a garden hose out there"

Matt asks Karros if there was any doubt that Jeter would leave the Yankees (Referring to his contract last year) and Karros goes on to explain that Jeter is a lifer in New York etc. This interaction came up in just about every game. Now that this whole contract thing is over they can burn that line!
