The thing I don't understand is why it's not allowed in a videogame to have the ABILITY to make such changes. I get they want to protect their image and therefore don't want the Yankees to be portrayed in Rainbow tops, but once the game is owned by an individual, doesn't it then become THEIR property? And how does what I do in my own home defame the license? It's no different than me photoshopping a picture of the Yankees in rainbow and then saving it as a my desktop wallpaper, right? I guess that whole thing is a little fuzzy, especially when games like Madden have been able to do it for years.
In no way, shape, or form do you own any of the rights to any of MLB Properties. When you buy a game, you are buying the license to play the game. All of the trademarks of MLB and MLB Properties remain in possession of Major League Baseball. And when you take the example Yankees logo and do whatever you want to it, you are infringing upon the trademarks of Major League Baseball and the New York Yankees. Just because you can download something or just because you buy the license to a game doesn't mean that you now own everything about it.

A clue would be to go on the Sports Logos section of the CCSLC forums and find a thread about it. There are threads about the Marlins, Orioles, Blue Jays, Royals (they switched up the powder blue jerseys and eliminated the powder blue cap) and speculation about the Rockies and Braves but nothing about the Indians. Considering they changed just last year and the monetary implications of firesaleing brand new jerseys, I highly doubt that they will change again.

Every time I hear that phrase, I think of Josh Lewin yelling that after a Rangers batter (I can't remember who) hit a home run off of the "Chicken Express" sign in the bullpen. Russell, you guys in San Diego are lucky to have him as the radio voice of the Chargers.

fair enough....then I hope your bosses ask MLB for a discount every year for that licensing....because Sony is essentially paying for something that isn't accurately reflected in your game (uniforms---outdated style guide)...which in turn hurts you guys....not MLB
Bummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.

Man I'm quite amazed by all you guys' attention to detail in the appearance department! I'm a fairly casual gamer in that respect and the slight differences from the real stuff don't bother me at all... don't even notice them unless I look really hard... Talking about how good is good enough.

As for chicken dinner, maybe that won't be accurately reflected as well, and soy chicken will be substituted... still good served with KFC herbs and spices though. (Ron Douglas's my favorite by the way.)

I read that the Seattle Mariners are bringing back the navy blue cap with the teal bill.

I hope that Mix-n-Match will be available in 2012 plus the all blue Brooklyn Dodgers uniforms that LA wore this past season.

I wonder this as well, seeing as in madden you can move a franchise, build a new stadium, even change the stadium name. I figure the licensing agreements would be similar from NFL and MLB, but at the very least I think we should have a create a team option on the Show.

The Tribe are releasing their new uniforms today. Paul Lukas already posted pics of it on today's blog entry. All they did was get rid of the outlines on the wordmarks, as well as the piping down the middle, of the home and navy alternate jerseys.

I was expecting a complete wordmark change to match the road jersey, but eh.

Why is this so hard for people to understand? The license with MLB gives them the right to use what's in the style guide. The style guide is updated every year with what teams give Major League Baseball. It is up to the thirty individual teams of Major League Baseball to update the style guide. If anybody has a problem with them, contact your baseball club and ask them to change the style guide. Without their help, SCEA has to go by what MLB tells them to do.

That last sentence is key people. They can't just buy the license and then tell MLB to shove off. It doesn't work that way.

I think they are about the same, but you can't move the Chargers to Los Angeles and keep the name and uniforms. The logos, names, and identities are protected by the individual leagues respectively.
