Re: MLB 12 The Show Countdown
EDIT: Scratch that, even though they give out numbers over 100 to players (usually, the players that are under development, or are prospects, since they don't really have minor leagues in Japan) I can't find ANY pictures of them. The only one I can think of that I would have luck funding is one of the Japanese team's mascots. I've seen a picture of one that's wearing the number 111, or something like that, lol. But yeah, I can only assume that they don't actually give those players a jersey with the 100+ number on it.Last edited by douggoud; 03-06-2012, 01:35 AM.R.I.P. Re: MLB 12 The Show Countdown
Masahiro Kawai
What is he known for?
533 sacrifice hits from 1984 to 2006 in the Japanese league.
He's been considered a hero in a culture where 30,000 people take their own lives yearly.Attached FilesComment

Re: MLB 12 The Show Countdown
Not much of a surprise (also, I assume you mean bunts), Japanese baseball is built upon this part of the game. If you can't do that, you usually don't last long if you can't do much else (which actually goes without saying I guess).Last edited by douggoud; 03-06-2012, 01:41 AM.R.I.P. Re: MLB 12 The Show Countdown
Japan tends to idolize a person giving up oneself for the sake of the community, which sac bunt perfectly represents... But in a way that tells their version of baseball is still a bit behind strategically.
It's quite interesting how baseball adapts to social norms!Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show Countdown
It's actually symbolic of how their version of baseball evolved differently from baseball in US, where the value of sac bunt has long been diminishing over the years. Partly that's due to the fans/players smitten with power, and to some extent because of sabermetrics which tells sac bunt is only good if you are going for just one run...

Yeah I can tell you that people over there love baseball just as much, if not more. In fact they've considered the sport their national pastime for a long time. Where's Amerika???Comment

Oh I see. No wonder you knew them. Well you know what it's only 10 hrs away from LA, lol. ... unless you intend to swim there.

Where's Amerika???Though I'd probably get eaten by a shark, so I'll try the flight, lol. Its not so much the getting there, its the, when I'm there part. When I say, my roots, I mean that I'm only 1/4th Japanese, so I've never had the opportunity to learn Japanese, though, hopefully, I'll be able to take a Japanese language class pretty soon here.
Oh God yes they do. High school baseball is bigger than minor league baseball here, lol. Koshien is almost as big as the NPB itself. It's kinda sad that baseball isn't as big here as it is there. I mean, while I would be absolutely terrified to pitch in front of a crowd of over 25,000 people at the age of 17, I'd rather have that than maybe 30 people at most (I blame football for baseball's fall in importance to the people). Anyways, yeah, where is that place?
