though the info is still to be released, i think so far '12 has got more refreshed content/ new tweaks for more realism than '11 had when it replaced '10. so '12 is more worth a buy than '11 was when it was coming out. problem for us who've owned 1 or two consecutive yrs of this game in contrast to people buying into the game for the first time, you dont at first see the carry over issues that from the consumer end may 'feel' like it's a easy fix to us (could be or not) yet annoy us when we still find them 1,2,3 product cycles over. i dont know much about the 360, but i've not often come across it being said that the ps3 is inferior to the 360... shrug, i know i dont console period much at all, and ps3 gives me a BR player (meant more to me 3yrs ago) and the people on this board that tweak the rosters for the show yr after yr (dunno if people do that for 2k's version?) are very dedicated in tweaking a huge aspect of making the show play more realisticly.

Re: Considering the Switch: MLB The Show Questions
I have NEVER heard of a person who got PS3 for the Show and was unhappy with the purchase.
I have never heard a person who has played 2k and The SHow and decided to go and play 2K exclusivelyComment

Re: Considering the Switch: MLB The Show Questions
I actually liked the 2k series, but last year I finally caved in and bought a PS3 when analog controls were added into The Show 11. Although I do like the xbox for certain reasons, I absolutly cannot stop playing The Show. I have played it nearly every day since I bought the system last march.Comment

Re: Considering the Switch: MLB The Show Questions
If you're that big of a baseball fan, I think it's a good choice to make the switch.
You'll now have 2 options for baseball games instead of one.
We may need a new BR player so I might get a PS3 just for The Show too.Comment

Duh. That's a good point. I don't why I kept thinking that the other game wouldn't be available for the PS3.Comment

Re: Considering the Switch: MLB The Show Questions
I've never played 2K, as I actually only stumbled upon the Show thinking an arcade-ish baseball video game cannot still be that good for a simulation-minded gamer like myself. I was looking for something to kill time with.
Oh boy I was wrong with the Show!! It has made me interested in trying out other baseball video games of the current generation, but the Show is pretty darn good that I'd be surprised if anything comes close to it right now.
I admit the last arcade-ish one that I played was Front Page Sports Baseball back in the late 90s... it was fun but still had a lot of issues if I take that as a sim, and stopped having high hopes for arcade-ish video games. Then I've tried most text-based sims, Dimand Mind, PureSim, Mogul, OOTP... While those games are fun if you are into the management aspect and looking at career stats, etc., but the feeling for baseball being actually played on the field is severely lacking... after all it's all text-based, so you cannot really fault the games for that...
Then I found that the Show (at least since MLB11) does actually offer a good *simulation* gameplay. It is quite remarkable how much care goes into the gameplay engine so that the whole thing plays like a sim. So it's pretty close to what I had in mind as a dream baseball simulation game. To me, it's that good already (and it will keep improving.... hopefully in a sim way).
I've just started with the franchise mode recently, so I cannot really address the questions in the original post, if those are the most important things to you. But if you are like myself, you are definitely in it for a treat. This is from someone who's not even a huge gamer (just does some retro gaming here and there), but the Show even makes me think of getting Vita. It's very good.Comment

Re: Considering the Switch: MLB The Show Questions
What I like about 2K baseball is their realistic TV style broadcast with great stat overlays, how their announcers sound in the booth, great stadium sounds including a great sounding PA announcer. And I also like that the 2K game has a Batboy that comes out in realtime to get the baseball bats on the ground at homeplate.
I think both baseball games are enjoyable.
But my heart will always be with MLB The Show! And it just keeps getting better and better every year!
I can not wait to see what this new True Broadcast Presentation is all about!Last edited by tnixen; 01-09-2012, 01:29 PM.Comment

The beauty of having the PS3 is you get to choose or play both.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Considering the Switch: MLB The Show Questions
And for the record, I couldn't last. I went and got the PS3 at lunch today, and bought MLB 10 The Show for $11 to tie me over.
Now, to dope the kids with Benadryl when I get home tonight...Comment

Re: Considering the Switch: MLB The Show Questions
I was an Xbox only guy until my now wife made me buy a PS3, and I went ahead and got The Show '10 when i first bought it to try it out. Beyond the fact that the gameplay itself if beyond more realistic than the 2k series, although I do enjoy 2k, a few of the things I ran across that sets it apart, being a simulation minded guy myself and doing a lot of General Manager type tasks are:
1. The offseason is ridiculous. Where the 2k series just has a list of offseason tasks like all other sports games, The Show continues the calendar and sets the actual dates that each thing needs to be completed by, i.e., offseason FA signings for players on your team, rolling over into the FA signing by the rest of the league on players you dont offer arbitration to or sign by other means
2. Speaking of arbitration, the full process is on the calendar, starting with you trying to resign your own players, and if offered arbitration it sets an arbitration date for both of you to go to court, where you set your actual arbitration offer and you go to court with the player and the game decides whether to rule for the player or your team.
Its ridiculous how detailed the offseason is compared to any other sports game I have played, inticing the simulation based players into the game just as much and the realistic ones. Ive never gotten into a game like I have The Show, sometimes screaming after winning, or losing, a game in the bottom of the last inning, keeping me always coming back for moreComment
