MLB 12 The Show Demo Release Date? - Operation Sports Forums

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you all know OS now has an official Discord that you can join right now. We’ve kicked around Discords for individual games in the past, but it felt like the right time to make it more of an official thing.

Steve and I have wanted to get this going for a bit because we obviously still hear from y’all who are unhappy with some stuff on the forums, plus when there are forum outages we still want to have a place for everyone to hang. My overarching goal for the longer term is to have both Discord and the forums ultimately work together. There are some logistical issues with the vBulletin forums that don’t allow things to sync right with Discord so there will be a little maneuvering as we try to get mods and forum members any proper roles/tags they need on the Discord, but we can work through that stuff easily enough as people join.

Our general goal is to give people more options to interact with OS community members, whether that’s Discord, the forums, this newsletter, or improved apps. If people want to stick more to the forums, that’s cool. If people want to stick more to the Discord, that’s also cool. In my perfect world, we do a lot of BSing and day-to-day chatting on the Discord about games and sports, and then more of the “in-depth” discussions or hefty things like long slider breakdowns or analysis of gameplay end up on the forums so that can act as a sort of “best of” area for anything OS community related. That said, you all will ultimately shape how the ecosystem shakes out, I just want to give you spaces you like so you can have a good time with other folks in the community.

The same general rules will apply on the Discord as they do on the forums, and we’ve brought most of the forum categories to the Discord as well so there should not be too much confusion as you navigate around.

With the Operation Sports and Discord announcement now out there, it’s also worth mentioning our OS premium newsletter, which quietly launched a couple of weeks ago. Built off the Not Just Another Roster Update newsletter, it offers a mix of retrospectives, guides, interviews and deeper dives into the sports gaming world—covering both current and classic titles.

Right, but I have Comcast internet here and I don't consider 260GB per month much of a cap compared the 60GB cap I was dealing with in Canada.

Whether theres a Demo before release or not, i sure wont be trying it.

Prefer to save all my wonderment for the real thing and not a few months old demo build

Either way I'm still looking forward to seeing the new Batman film.

It's comparing a passive entartainment product to a user active product

Seeing snippets of a whole is totally different than playing something that is still in development.

Having said that maybe Sony should have a faster demo approvel time!

That is so weak.

A hardcore player wants to play this demo for one or two reasons. They are called pulse pitching and new ball physics.

If you are really "picking out problems', you are not as much a gamer as a critic.

But this is exactly what I mean....

If you go solely by the demo....and it's different than what they did the last two weeks of working on the game...what then?
(not that it's going to be DRASTICALLY different, but still)
Nem and Pared made a suggestion while there....Chris implemented it and it's a pretty friggin' nice change(and we all thought it was pretty good when we saw it beforehand!)

In MLB12, line drive gappers and flares are now a thing a beauty. Gone are the hits to the gap where the corner outfielders would cut the ball off at a high rate. Their normal position was moved just enough to the foul lines to eliminate this as a result of a great interaction between Chris Gill, Lead Gameplay Producer and myself and nemesis04.

I believe this is what Knight was referring to.

Uggghh .... 260gb? 60gb?

I live out in the sticks outside of a 700 population town... I gotta go with WildBlue Satellite internet, and on their top package I get a 17gb 30 day limit AAAAAAAND if I get to 70% of that, the speeds are cut, anything past 17 and service is cut until levels are below 70% again...

Although I have heard of a company expanding to where we live providing services that are 100x faster than what I'm getting with the satellite, and with no bandwidth limits... but I've been hearing that for years

I'm actually surprised so many people don't want to play the demo. Any taste of the game I can get I'll take. I have also been playing the series long enough to know that the demo may not be representative of the final product. Which doesn't bother me at all because I know I will be buying anyway.

I do get why people would wanna wait for the retail version though.

Demos can be useful. I wouldn't have become such a Show enthusiast had I not stumbled upon the MLB10 demo on that cold and frigid evening last year when I got totally bored out of my mind...

If you are an annual buyer, then demos might not provide best opportunities to assess final products, depending on when the demos were built... Like last year, when so many people got disappointed when Karros sounded as if he was broadcasting alone from the shower in Motel 6 in San Bernardino, CA? That was nothing like the stuff in the final product...

We stilll got feeling for new stuff, like analog, lighting, etc... it's all good. I've already made up my purchasing decisions, so the demo won't affect that. But I bet I'll end up downloading it, even just to check out new ball physics... if I'm bored at the time again.

I'd like to play the demo, assuming the physics will be the same between demo and retail. My purchase this year depends on how much I feel the physics changes the gameplay.

This thread has went from, "is there a release date for a demo"? To personal impressions on the definition of a hardcore fan and whether or not a demo could be used to make a decision.

I want the demo just to get my personal, "hands on" with the game.
