Seems like a no-brainer to let fans use custom ad content (pics and video), letting the player know the dimensions of each billboard or jumbotron screen so they know what size to make things.

That way the fan community could make similar billboards/ads that are displayed in all the real stadiums. (Similar to the custom audio stuff they allow.)

And you could load your own video clips to be played on the jumbotron screens (again, similar to the custom audio stuff... batter walk-up clips, clips that play at certain designated circumstances, etc.). Not only those kind of relevant baseball clips, but you'd have fans splicing together famous/inspiring movie clips, similar to lots of stadiums that play "rally" videos or "get pumped" videos.

Imagine taking your team to play in Philly. You've got a slim lead late in the game, the Phillies are threatening as they move guys into scoring position, and then some familiar music rings out and you look up and you have those Rocky clips playing on the jumbotron to rally the Philly fans and players.
I have no clue what this would cost, or the time it would take SCEA to develop a tool for this, but I have often said this might add to an already rabid fan base. I fell in love with video games again because I could Mod the MVP and High Heat series. Once I started modding stadiums I couldn't stop. I used to make cyberfaces, tattoos, and uniforms for NBA Live over at the old NLSC. I think the fanbase would grow and more consoles would be sold if there was a way to allow us access to those files on a console. Modding is restricted to PC environment (for the most part) because we can switch these files out once they are installed on the machine.

The counter argument is that the next iteration of the series would not sell as well because people could just mod the older version to reflect the new season. I'm not sure this argument is valid.

I would just love to be able to customize The Show.

Could it be that the MLB license prohibits real ads because they don't want to show favoritism toward a certain brand while in a video game?

I think a lot of the older ads were approved in the past thus allowed to stay (Admiral, Cola, etc). But now it is getting harder and harder, as well as different teams and stadiums handle it differently.

Maybe the ads in the real stadiums are tied into the MLB license ? Does MLB 2K have the real ads in their stadiums ?

Don't see how MLB would have a problem if any of those companies were in the game since those companies are official sponsors of mlb

I'd prefer to see satirical fictitious ads like what you see Grand Theft Auto.

I remember seeing ads for the KISS Tour on the Right Field "Fence" of the MetroDome back in MLB The Show '10. I thought it was neat seeing current ads/commercials in the game.

Read everything theSLAB said. That is to the T as to why.

All legal and money. As well as Player Union when it comes to "third party equipment" the players wear advertising.

                  Woulda coulda shoulda's are irrelevant.

One thing I did ask for is the ability to make our own advertisement in the game.....even from a set of pre-rendered art(copyright/trademark worries) and at the very least...make the advertisers that you sign deals with in franchise...show up in your ballpark!(this always bugged me a little!)

                    yes!

i remember the ps2 versions actually had those ads pre-placed out there.
i loved seeing Horizon Wired out in right field at yankees stadium, in the same spot with the same design as the verizon wireless ad.

wondered why that was taken out on current gen.

All legal as to why it was removed.

Legal is getting more and more "enforced" by lawyers of said companies now.

Made up ads can only portray something like 30% of the original ad. So it is a tricky thing.

Others that are closer are probably due to the approval of said team/stadium at the time (i.e. "Cola" in San Fran, etc.).

Some are hard nosed to say no to even a vehicle that is not even the same class in a spot a truck is in now. Not even a motorcycle or plane can go there. Platform has to remain empty in game.

It stinks, and is so not uniform across the board, but just the way it is unfortunately. I am just thankful the non uniformity of enforcement benefits us rather than detracts 100%, like the "Admiral Motors" and "Wire Cola Bottle".
