The only issue I can see with that though, is if it wasn't something that was already in(hidden somewhere), then by adding that they could open up a huge can of worms with additional bugs.

Again I could be wrong and that would be cool with me as well.

I hope this never, ever happens. This is what makes baseball's playoffs better than other sports. Only the best teams are in. I love the current format.

Only the 4 best teams make it in each league of 15 teams(will be 15 in 2013)...

So the 3rd best team in the AL or NL has a shot of NOT making the playoffs....

They should just have April-August as the regular season and then have 7 teams in the playoffs for each league. Playoffs start in september(we could probably get 2 rounds done in september, leaving october to be the ALCS/NLCS as well as the world series.

1,2,3 are division winners(and 1 is the best of the 3 division winners)

1 gets a bye(and faces the winner of the 4-5 game)
        2-7
        3-6
        4-5

Many MLB teams are suffering in august/september in ticket sales because those teams are well out of the playoffs. Reducing the schedule as well as adding more playoff teams helps out alot.

No thank you. The one thing I don't like about the NBA and NHL is that half the teams make the playoffs and the playoffs lasts 2 months. That's why teams can have losing records and make the playoffs in both. It's crazy. I love the NHL but don't love the playoff format.

I love the current MLB playoff format except that the Divisional Series should be a best of 7 instead of 5. But other than that I love it and don't mind the 1 game elimination format that is being throw about.

            Re: 2012 MLB Playoff Format

Teams that suffer in August and September do so because the product on the field is not good. There shouldn't be a movement to get mediocre teams into the playoffs; there should be a movement to make it difficult to field a good team so that money is spent on the team itself.

If anything in the playoffs are changed, it should be the Division Series moving to a best-of-seven, a "Wild Card Playoff" as a three game series (or an elimination game would be fine), and the regular season being cut down to about 154 games. There should also be a true 1-4 seeding instead of divisional teams can't play each other in the first round.

If you start making the playoffs like the NHL, NBA, and I'd even say the NFL, the sport will be watered down. Teams should strive to put the best team on the field, not a mediocre team that will show up and embarrass themselves in a playoff.

I don't think the season needs to be shortened. The reason the World Series has dragged into November a couple times over the last decade is because of all the dadgum off days in the playoffs because of TV rights. That used to not be the case. There were plenty of seasons with the 162 game schedule and the current playoff format where the season ended right around October 25th and it was just fine.

Here are some examples where they're were too many off days. In 2009 there were 2 days off no baseball between the DS and the LCS. The Phillies beat the Rockies in Colorado on Monday and had Tuesday and Wednesday off before playing in Los Angeles on Thursday. Why? That same year the Yankees beat the Twins on Sunday, had Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off before playing again Friday at home. Was there really the need for them to have 4 days off between series? The problem with the schedule is that they set it in stone with the TV networks months in advance instead of keeping it flexible and working it to where there aren't all these unnecessary off days.

Move the start of the regular season to the last weekend of March and elimate all those off days in the playoffs [especially between the LCS and World Series] and the season wouldn't stretch into November.

I agree with what you are saying in that there are too many off days in the post season. I want that to be corrected along with a reduction in the season if the playoffs are expanded though.

Looks like the playoffs will be expanded for this year (2012)

I wanna see best of 7 in the first round. Is that too much to ask?

Me too. Namely because of how many times I've had to see the Braves lose that first series because they faced a team that had 2-dominate starters and could use them for 4 of the 5 games while not having a #4 starter worth a darn while the Braves had the better rotation depth and never got to use it.

Meh, I always wanted there to be a 3 game playoff between the 2 wild card teams. One game playoffs can go either way so easily. 3, 5, 7, 7 would be fine by me. A one game series just don't feel right being an official series in the playoffs.
