Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
I finally broke down and went and played for roughly a hour and a half at Best Buy. Started a franchise with the Braves, here are my thoughts:
Franchise:
I simmed to the trade deadline, and the trades definitely made sense, the biggest one being Cuddyer to the Rangers (Rockies were 14 gb and in Rebuilding Strategy) they also traded Helton to the Marlins (5 gb), all for prospects. Lineup logic is better, a few strange moves in the #2 and #7 spots, but those are variable for a lot of teams anyways. Stats looked solid.
Did anyone notice a new screen for each player regarding morale, playing time, etc. It's in '11 I believe but seems to actually matter this year. Do those levels have any effect on hot/cold streaks?
Gameplay:
Huge step-up from '11. The physics are great, but the big things I noticed was that on default All-Star pitching, spots were tough to hit (analog pitching) and I really had to focus on my pitching and hitting my spots. Variable umpires are obvious as well, one game I couldn't get a low strike to save my life, next game, everything was fair game.
Hitting is also fine tuned, obviously the ball physics helps, but I could really see the ball well with the new camera and could hit high fastballs finally. In '11, a high fastball is an automatic pop out or foul ball for me.
Fielding I do feel the weight of the player, definitely improved.
So in summary, the gameplay changes really make this version, I'm a big Franchise geek, but the '11 gameplay became dull quickly, this version is very engaging.
That's it, I'm ready for Tuesday. One quick question - it seemed like there was a bit of a stutter or frame rate slowdown at times, is this something due to the Best Buy system or what?Comment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
So, I've noticed that it starts to get somewhat awkward when there is a group of 3-4 guys standing behind you and watching you play. Didn't know whether or not to ask if they wanted to play, so I went with the more selfish option.(Couldn't bare to give it up anyway...)
Also noticing a bit of a framerate issue, hoping that it is just the system/tv there at bestbuy.Comment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
I played MLB 12 The Show at my Best Buy on Friday. THey had the full game but I couldn't get into Diamond Dynasty. It required a code that is in the booklet. Looks like they are going the EA route and having you put a code in to play online. So if you buy a used copy you will have to spend some money in the PSN store to unlock at least Diamond Dynasty but probably everything online.Comment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
Played 2 innings today at BB, and I was ready to break the plexiglass open, eject the game and run. I was able to easily notice the new ball physics in just a short time playing. I tried out the pulse pitching, and I think I'm going to love it. It really felt like it was a perfect combination of user skill and player ratings.
I can't wait until Tuesday...MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
NBA: Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic
NCAA: Penn State Nittany Lions, Boston College EaglesComment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
So I went to Best Buy today and they had SSX and MLB The Show on and there were like 10 people around SSX and nobody playing the show. WTF
I hoped on and played Mets at Yankees (me) All Star default sliders
Graphics look exactly the same (No biggie)
Ball Physics are a million times better and make the game feel different for sure (Very impressive)
Sound of glove catching a pitch were impressive and so was bat on ball sound
I love pulse pitching without the cursor, feels very nice and responsive
Hitting was great but I prefer the good ol analog swing and do not like having that yellow spit stain on my screen.
Analog fielding still feels horrible in terms of tons of bad throws
Fielding feels smoother and the game feels a bit slower which is much better
Played just 3 inning and can already see that this game is very good with very nice improvements
I do not like the catcher view for hitting, I will have to customize one for sureComment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
Sounds good. I still don't know if I'm picking it up on day one this year. I always have since I've had a PS3, but with Mass Effect 3 coming out on the same day and having to wait on the full minors anyway, I'm thinking of waiting a week or two. It's not like ME3 isn't going to eating up all my time anyway. But these impressions may make me change my tune and scoop them both up on Tuesday.Check out my updated 2017 blog on building a high school football video game:

2) You can lower the difficulty specifically for analog throwing if you are having trouble"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"Comment
