Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
Yea I have to agree here. This would have made the last day (of last season) utterly worthless. Oh well. Hope the show can put it in somehow or there are going to be a few unhappy people. I don't really mind if they can't.Angels= 2025 World Series Champions!!Comment

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
Yes but you also get the two wildcard games playing win or go home games so that night could bring just as much excitement.ESPN NFL 2K5 GREATEST FOOTBALL GAME EVER!

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
Exactly! You say it will make the last game of the season from last season pointless...however I say this ASSURES we have at least two of these meaningful win and your in games every season, not to mention we may still have 2-3 teams fighting for that 2nd wildcard spot, giving it their all then having to turn around and do it again!
I see a lot of drama and I think I like it more and more that I think about it.Comment

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
According to Jayson Stark, it's more than just adding a one-game playoff. This year, the division series will be a 2-3 format instead of 2-2-1, which means the top division winner will open the playoffs on the road. This is because of the tight postseason schedule, so it could go back to the 2-2-1 format next year. That makes the idea of a patch seem even more difficult to implement.

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
I respectively disagree, the Padres-Rockies one game playoff from a couple of years ago was one of the most exciting games I've seen and if this playoff system produces that I'm all for it.
Hopefully its added via patch, if not oh well until next year I guess. And I believe the game might of been 3/4s done when the rumors of this started leaking.Mets/Giants/Knicks/Rangers/Manchester United/Notre Dame Football

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
I'm fine with a game 163 tie-breaker. The Twins/Tigers game in 2009 was one of the greatest games I've ever seen. That's not what I mean though. This new game is not a game 163. It's part of the postseason. I don't like the fact that an extra Wild Card team is being implemented in each league and the fact that a third place team could win the World Series. Third place teams don't deserve to be in the playoffs.I respectively disagree, the Padres-Rockies one game playoff from a couple of years ago was one of the most exciting games I've seen and if this playoff system produces that I'm all for it.

It's a different story if two teams are tied for the Wild Card (old system) and have a one game tie-breaker that isn't considered the postseason.

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
I can't agree with the bold. There is no way a will make the playoffs will ever be 81-81 (your usual 3rd place finish, the 81-84 win plateau, depending on division). You're going to see the #5 seed go 96-66. Telling me they don't deserve a shot? I see where you are coming from, but a 90-94 win 5 seed is inevitable.I'm fine with a game 163 tie-breaker. I'll say this: I like it, but it should be 12, not 10. The NFL way is the way to go, IMO. (The 91-2001 format, pre-Texans). My favorite sport got this one 85% right. Only thing that I don't like is what I mentioned.Astros

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
As much as the stats dont show a huge advantage, to the players and the fans, it's a pretty big deal to play at home especially the first couple games.
The team with the top division record should not have to play the first 2 games of a 5 game series on the road.Comment

Re: New MLB Playoff Format Confirmed
It's only for one year. They'll have this schedule and the dates set up in '13. That 2-3 will still put the top teams at home for game 5, which to me, is the most important (if we are talking about a "big deal"). Now if 87-75 MIL played at home in game 5 vs. 100-62 Philly, we have a HUGE issue.Astros
