Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

The game just feels so much smoother. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's like all the parts work together perfectly.

But I did encounter a problem that others have: I threw out Jose Tabata with Cody Ross on a grounder to RF. I didn't even preload the throw or throw it hard. This probably needs some work.

My name, my brother's name, my dad's name, my roommate's name, and 3 of my other friends' names are all in the game this year. That alone deserves my $60 because our names are so rare. By video game standards at least. This really and truly brings a tear of joy to my eye. I can't thank you enough. It's so awesome to have my name in a video game, I can't imagine how happy I would be if myself or my friends were actually in the game after this. I'm so blown away.

      Caleb
      Toby
      Stan
      Yorks
      Laubacker
      Zambelli
      Bretland
      Bosson
      Scoville

      All pronounced correctly to boot!

Ramone, Matty V, the PA guy, the sound guys, any body else who worked on this part of the game. I thank you from the deepest part of my heart.

The swing animations and how pitchers and fielders close their gloves are a leap in the right direction. They make the game look and feel more realistic.

Home runs feel more like home runs while they're hit and after they're hit due to the swing animations, camera cuts, and new physics.

The load times are a lot faster. I chose the 10GB installation.

Oh my goodness, Pulse pitching is freakn sweet. I was facing Mark Reynolds and my palms started to sweat as the bases were loaded and the count was full. Well, I choked and walked him. Incredible. I can really see myself walking 2-3 guys per game with this. Excellent job SCEA. I was like "eh" at first regarding this, but damn! I am in love with this game already haha

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

            Early impressions:

First off, after years of futility, my first name is FINALLY in the game...lol. I got my last name added years ago (08-before they added first name audio at all) and my first name never got in. So big ups to Ramone for keeping on that list!

I really enjoy Pulse Pitching. I was 100% sold on Analog, but what I like about pulse is the extra bit of random thrown in to really force you to locate your pitches. That said, maybe it was all the warnings I read on here or that I only tried on All Star, but I found it to a lot less hard than some people are making it out to be. I struck out 11 guys with Becket and 16 overall with only 1 total walk in my full game and racked up a chunk of K's in the bits and pieces of other games I checked.

I'm not concerned or anything (it was still challenging otherwise and I did get hammered for mistakes)...I'll just bump it up to HOF (and likely get killed...lol). Between the balance of control and randomness along with the cleaner screen (due to no meter, I'm thinking I'm on the Pulse bandwagon.

As others have stated numerous times, I can't stress enough how much the ball physics add. It's not "in your face" from the start and I didn't notice much difference in the early innings. Where it hits you is over the course of a game in all the little ways it adds to the realism. I've seen balls die in the grass for hits, bloops, hot shots, balls that ate guys up and some awesome looking high choppers and ricochets off of surfaces. If you don't notice it right away, don't worry, it shows up in all the ways it should.

I tried using Zone Plus Analog...I failed using Zone Plus Analog. It's HARD and I found myself so concerned with getting my timing and aiming my swing that I couldn't read pitches. It lead to some hilariously bad swings. That was all my ineptitude though...Analog is VERY responsive and it works 100% as it should. For those skilled enough to use it, I think you'll like it.

Fielding has me a bit concerned. First off, the good: Reactions are much better and you are given control of the fielder faster than previous years, I think. I had to adjust to that as I overran some balls early, since I am used to "pre-loading" my movements. The window of control is wider too which, coupled with a new sense of urgency, should make for less frustrating plays due to animation hiccups.

So why am I concerned? Well, an old issue I've noticed that was GREATLY improved the last couple of years seems to be more prevalent again. On several balls hit in range of an infielder, I was given control of an outfielder instead, leading to me diving or overrunning with the OF and giving up extra bases and even runs (2 of them in my 4-1 loss).

It's not every play or anything, but it's probably in the range of 08 and 09 when it was frequent enough to be frustrating. It's early, I know, but it's already happened to me more than it ever did in 11 (no exaggeration-I felt it was nearly fully resolved in 11). Other than that, the game is great!

EDIT: I forgot to add, I know they said it would be subtle, but I noticed no difference in pitch speed from 11. That's not a pro or con for me (I was fine with the old range), but just an observation.

I haven't found a pitching view I like. I also only have the options for "broadcast " or "fast play" presentations...I wonder if they took out everything else

MY FIRST INNING I HIT A LINE DRIVE OFF THE PITCHER. Goddammit. I thought they got rid of this

And I hit a dp ball and the SS flipped it over the 2b's head... awesome touches!

In about a gazillion games I've hit the pitcher twice. So I don't think it's a problem plus the guys said it's not something "there" anymore and physics driven..or something like that...

I played my 1st game, Rockies v. Giants at Coors Field, and I lost 1-0 in 12 innings. I played with pulse pitching and zone analog hitting (which probably explains why I only had 5 hits).

                  I LOVE the ball physics.

Just a quick c&p from the pulse pitching thread.
Also,I know it was only 1 game, but All-Star out of the box played a really nice game of baseball, nothing really popped as an area that needed immediate slider tweaking...maybe after more games? who knows, but mad props are to be given as I've never been able to open up a game and didn't immediately notice "something" needed to be changed.

At first I thought it was going to be to easy,as Kershaw was rolling along against the Halo's,going into the 5th it was 2-1 Angels....then Kershaw GOT ROCKED giving up 5 runs.

The funny thing about it was Albert wasn't a factor at all (the announcers even pointed it out) I guess I was so worked up facing him, that I got lazy facing the rest of the Angels lineup....BIG mistake

When you set the feedback "pitch/swing info" to button... part of the display comes up without the button - it's very annoying. I turned it off, and now I can't get any feedback. the part I'm talking about is the grid visual.

Edit: also turned off the ticker , no effect...edit 2: finally went away.

I guess this year feels much more like a video game to me. Maybe it's just the pulse pitching , etc... there's a learning curve this year

Thats what im loving about it too.

I can get into a rhythm for a few pitches or even batters, get some easy outs and find myself cruising thinking, yep, ive got this down now....then i totally lose the timing (as it changes per pitch/depending on what you are throwing/situation etc) and start making mistakes which the CPU happily punishes.

I cant see any way this system can ever be mastered, which is great.

                          Oh yes, a quickie.

As for the guys saying they are throwing guys out from RF on singles, yes, it may be possible, but its also something thats very rarely even attempted in real life (yes i know it has been done) and is seen as something of a no-no?

Not something ill do, would feel cheap, if a guy gets it out to RF hes earnt his single.

I guess what im saying is...just dont throw it!

Try using Pulse Pitching with no ball display! You still see pulse, but no ball so all you see is a shrinking circle, very tough but realistic.
