If you are sure of what you saw, that's definitely a bug, then. You should post it in the Bugs/Glitches Thread. According to MLB rules, if a ball is in fair territory and touched by a fielder, it remains fair no matter where it goes.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I've seen it.
Grounder to the pitcher and he stepped off the mound and hit the ball into foul territory and the ball was called foul.
Keep in mind the ball was nearly by the mound when he hit it out into foul territory.
I knew it was a bug, but didn't snap video to provide proof and since it's the only time I've seen it, I let it go."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I think he's talking about where the ball is already in foul territory, in which case it doesn't matter where the player is. Once the fielder touches a foul ball, it's guaranteed to be foul, even if it rolls back into fair territory (which is why they do it: the grass is at a higher level than the dirt, so its common for balls to roll back inwards).
I've seen this happen also (it was in last year), and it is definitely a cool thing to see.
Yes the ball is already foul and they just slap it to the side some more. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Love the game, but they really need to bring back the feature that allows us to save games in progress during Exhibition - I don't know how many times I've had my wife tell me that we have to go and do something, and my game is lost! :P
Would also like to see mound visits mean something (ie. pitchers get confidence restored).Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
This game is amazing, but it desperately needs a "player search" feature.
So you could just type in a players name and the game locates him for you. I spend way too much time looking thru rosters for players. Could this be implemented thru a patch?Comment

Being Mr. Presentation, I usually put those types of things at the top of my wishlist, but I
I'd be lying If I said that a player Finder feature isn't number one on that list.
Too many players. Too little patience.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
My impressions:
I imagined this would be very similar to last year, if not identical. The show did not disappoint. Ball physics really isn't something you'll notice or appreciate unless you really pour hours upon hours into the game, which I just don't have the time for. But I'm sure the addition is positive. For single game, exhibition game play, this is the best game ever made. But once you dive into game modes, things become a little shaky.
A lot of efforts to the community by Knight and Co. seem largely a waste of time (for knight and co.). Mainly because a lot of the promises made haven't really held ground this year. Trade logic was supposed to be improved; it's not. Lineup logic was supposed to be improved; it's not. It does seem though that for the first time in 3 or 4 years, the free agent bug is finally gone, but in the next few weeks I wouldn't be surprised to see arbitration bugs or resigning bugs as we found last year.
I though it was said that the player cards were going to be upgraded this year. Maybe I was wrong but they are still largely the same. For a game built on stats (baseball in general) it's inexcusable that franchise player cards still don't even record stolen bases. If you want what a player card should look like, check out the player profiles in OOTP. If the show's was half of what OOTP's is, I would be a very satisfied customer.
In general though the game just seems more buggy than previous iterations. Not sure why that is, but I've encountered (and so has the community) an awkward amount of bugs. Some are even more pronounced than last year such as the franchise game start time. It was only for one team last year but now it's for the whole league.
Online mode probably shouldn't exist. It's never been done right and the lag is, well, frustrating to say the least. Diamond Dynasty, while a good idea, is crippled by it's ties to online. Games don't record, game play is lagged, etc. I would say scrap all online play and just focus all resources into developing other aspects of the game. The community would have a heart attack, but I'm just not big online anyway...
This is still a beautiful game and plays really well. I love it, as I have the past 5 years. However I think this is one of the first years the game doesn't warrant a $60 purchase. Maybe, for those on the fence when the price drops to $30 it will be a must buy.Comment

When I went to check it upon playing the game for the first time.
I was underwhelmed.
They added some things. Took some things out. Some things are still missing.
Plus, you can check the player card anywhere the players name appears, but using it during an actual game is pointless, because you can find the same info in the player stats section in play.
Somehow its still clunky.
Ah well.
I did see something new in the drop down ticker.
They put up the names of the teams base coaches.
Nice.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Having said that, after looking at the impressions thread and bugs/glitches my impression of the people who play the game is many of them are 12 years old and under or work for the competition and are trying to get the devs to focus on inconsequential stuff instead of fixing the gameplay.
The palm trees in Miami are the wrong variety, Fred Smith's hair is three inches longer than in real life, why can't I put multi-colored shoelaces on my rtts guy, etc.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
My impression is that this game is a lot of fun, but I sure hope the patch fixes things that were not happening in this game last year, i.e. when a runner is on second, just before the pitch, he magically teleports over two more steps off the bag. Please fix this as it is disrtacting when trying to get a read on the pitch, because the teleportation takes place right behind the pitcher.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
okay, let me preface what I'm about to type by saying that this is similar to a post I made on Gamefaqs back in the MLB 08 days.
I am not going to declare " comeback code " or the computer cheats or whatnot, but something is very fishy about certain factors in this game that makes you feel like you are just along for the ride if you will.
More than once, and most recently tonight, I have fallen behind 2-0 in the home half of the inning, only to hit a 3 run tying homerun or manufactured some runs to go ahead in my half.
So then the next inning, the umpire just randomly " forgets " the strikezone where 2 pitches in the same at-bat in the strikezone are called for a ball. Ok. Cue the next batter, a slider easily on the next batters shinguards is golfed for a single. Now, the next batter rips one off the 3rd base bag (replay does not confirm this, a ball CLEARLY foul) to tie it 3-3.
Somehow I feel like i may as well put the controller down and watched this happen. I'm not saying comeback code, its just that sometimes this game seems to do what it wants, when it wants. ITS POSSESSED.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Despite a few niggles me and a friend are loving this game. Nothing beats a pulled up close custom camera in this game. It is much harder but oh so realistic. The stadiums and ambiance in this year's version are for the most part one hell of a job imo! I actually feel this year like I am hitting the ball. I encourage others to try a close batter view as well. You can mimic real life fairly well imo. SO much fun revisiting the stadiums after playing 10 for so long.
The options are laid out much better as well and getting things going was easy. Had to bump my sliders a bit to start off on the custom camera as it comes in a bit faster but I am glued to the screen. It really seems a bit different this year. Animations are sweeet.Comment
