Re: MLB 12 The Show - Impressions Thread

Pretty funny that the first game I tried was the Jays at Miami, just like sroz. He would have finished this game before I even got to his place to grab my copy (thanks again, bud!). Jays fans think alike I suppose.

Anyway, in my game, Romero dominated and I won 4-0, CG 3 hitter with RR.

I have to re-iterate what many said, the ball just feels so much different, it is a complete game changer. It just feels like baseball.

The graphics or lighting or something is improved, not sure what, but damn!!

I am going to bed, but will go into the Q & A thread tomorrow and answer as much as I can for you guys!

To the bolded part.. Yes they have. The overcast days even "feel" overcast lol.
Loving every every second but need to wind down to get some sleep soon.
I know there's more SCEA can do to make the game even greater but damn what a game this is!

A couple of things that are very impressive:

        - the many TBP camera angles! I saw one that zoomed in from CF at Rogers Centre at the start of an inning, and zoomed almost down to the broadcast pitching camera and I was able to start pitching! I don't we even saw that one at CD.

        - the many HD board graphics, along with the LED banners. Just. Awesome.

Played my first game last night...

Blue Jays in their new road Blues @ Boston

          Won 5-3!

Fell behind in the first with a solo jack by Joey Bats... Lester left a hanging curve in a 2-1 count (pulse pitching oopsie) to be hit over the Monstah!

Tied it in the bottom of the first on a throwing error by the third baseman on a tough nubber off the bat as he was charging and fell to his right.

The rest of the game was just pure baseball, with A-Gon going a sweet 4-4 with 3 singles and a double, A-Gon style.

Love that they adjusted Youkah's stance. Game is so slick and smooth!

Playing as Blue Jays, default All-Star and could totally tell that the CPU were afraid of Joey Bats and ended up with multiple walks from him.

I'm blown away by how many new/updated batting stances and pitching motions there are. Maybe 150/75 just goes a long way but it feels like a lot more than that.

New HRD cameras are sweet too.

Starting it up now. It's kind of cool how you have the option to install the game only if you want to. I thought I saw that it asked me if I wanted to, but I was so excited I just went past it. I'll play a game with the Cubs and post some initial impressions.

Don't know if this has been said yet. Garza was getting lit, triple, single, single, homerun. Next AB, count went to 2-0, and Soto went out and talked to Garza. Awesome to see catchers play smart and try calm you down.

It asks you if you want to do the 10GB install, which makes the load times much shorter.

You also have the option to deleting that extra 5GB within the game's menu options.

Ball physics are REALLY nice. Game feels so different.

                      I can't stress this enough!!!

We noticed it from the first at bat at the CE, but even at home with the retail game, man, you just see so much "baseball" randomness, it is truly remarkable.

Definitely a game changer that sets the bar on sorts games.

Just experienced an awesome play and a weird one. Zambrano ripped one at LaHair, he got short hopped and it skipped up, Barney was behind him to field it and throw him out. Not so good part. Inning before, I hit a pop up behind the catcher, and he didn't even go for it. It was maybe 10 feet from him.

Wanted to quickly say something about the Analog pitching interface: I like the addition in the background of the meter where, depending on how hard you flick up on the right stick to determine velocity, it will show anything from different shades of yellow, orange and red depending on velocity. Nice, small addition that helps a guy like me who uses this interface exclusively, to get a feel for my delivery.

Absolutely. I may sound like a broken record but it simply makes the game, period.
It has caused be to talk in the middle of a delivery for crying out loud. I'll get a bad release and know right away "Crap that's not good!" because the ball really does for the most part what it should do.

Better yet I throw the pitch I want, get the swing I want....and it ends up being a high chopper or slow roller that I can't get to fast enough and the runner safe.
One inning I felt like Greg Maddux. I had 3 balls in a row that were just dribblers/choppers back the the pitcher and he fielded the positon and made for a nice quick inning.
It's really hard to explain but what I'm trying to say is really forget what you know and expect out of the gameplay. Before when a ball was hit (and just because I was used the the way The Show was) you knew..that's an out or that foul etc...
Now you are living with each hit ball and not just watching it.

Just hit a no-doubter with Carlos Santana at Progressive Field, 433ft to centre into the park benches, and the video board had "CARLOS" all over it with graphics behind it and such. Really neat and so was the replay of the bat on ball contact.

Wish I was any good at posting videos cuz that would've been a neat one to put up, especially for Tribe fans. My second homerun with Santana, btw. Both times I guessed a changeup was coming (not using the Guess Pitch thing though, just anticipating it) hung back and absolutely crushed the ball.

You live the at bats and play now. You feel it. And yes, very unvideo game like.

Physics are a remarkable thing. And truly this now sets the standard, because this could not be done to this level of detail and realism 5+ years ago.
