    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

One of the neat things about this game is going through the box scores of the games you don't play, especially when you're using classic rosters. I'm using hoser's all-time rosters for a 29-game season, playing various games. A look at some of the notable performances in games I didn't play (from going through box scores):

--Ron Cey 5-for-5, 2 HRs, 3 2Bs in Dodgers' 7-4 win over Yankees.
--Indians 5, Pirates 2 in 23 innings, on walk-off homer by ManRam.
--Bob Forsch 16 Ks for Cardinals (5-0 over Tigers).
--Jimmy Foxx hits for the cycle in A's 13-5 win over Reds.
--Carl Hubbell 2-hitter in Giants 7-0 win over Indians.
    --Mickey Cochrane 3 HRs, 5 RBI and 5 for 5 in A's 11-2 win over D'Backs.
--Brandon Webb 2-hitter in D-Backs 2-0 win over Angels, outdueling Frank Tanana.
--Whitey Ford 1-hitter, 14 Ks in Yankees' 4-0 win over Rays.
--The Big Red Machine is off to an 0-8 start.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

"What? You can't challenge a scoring play?''

      Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

It's on my sports video gamer's "bucket list" to finish a full season in baseball playing every single one of the games, so I'm on my way with that... I haven't played since the summer but with this break I have I may start it up soon again.

I'm playing as the Braves, making only "realistic" trades... It's some time in June, I believe. I'll have a summary up for tomorrow.

        Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

So I wanted to start a franchise last night but I wanted to just do all the GM/Owner things and just sim the season. My favorite team is the Astros but I wanted a big market team so that I could sign big names with enough money. I picked the Angels. They have a very talented and elite roster with a lot of money so I chose them. We started off fast going 17-6 in first month.
We were playing well all the way through the all-star break and I was pondering to see if I wanted to make a trade. I had gotten a few requests but none seemed good or fair so I rejected all of them. I never did make a trade but I still had a stellar roster so I wasn't too dissapointed.
We led the division the whole year and we finished with the 2nd best record in the league: 101-61
We beat Detroit in the division series and had a hard fought ALCS vs. The -Indians but won in game 7. Now I had to take on the Phillies in the WS. We won the first, lost the second, and won the next three to win the world series, I was pretty pumped!
In the offseason I had to resign Greinke, Trout, Torii Hunter, and a few really good minor leaguers. The top free agent I signed was Edwin Jackson but I am kicking myself because that makes no sense since I have an already great rotation. I'm thinking of trading Ervin Santana though so maybe it will work out. I have everybody resigned that I wanted, but I am just waiting on Torii to accept the abritration offer.
This has been super fun and I am already looking forward to getting back on and playing some more!

all right, i am really into my franchise again. playing the rockies, i have hovered around .500 most of the season, while the diamondbacks are running away with the division. i won 8-2 and thought i could catch up a few games, but they matched it. i am third in the wild card, because the cardinals won 9-1 in the last ten.

when i could not crack .500 for a month or two and was 9 to 11 games back, i decided to make a few moves to get ready for next season a bit and maybe get value for helton who was having a career season. i need a second basemen also because no one was hitting for me.

i traded for anibal sanchez because even video games know the marlins trade away their top talent for salary space. i traded helton away for a really nice minor league pitcher and SS.

however, this allowed me to move up a few guys like jordan pacheco, who is having a great season at 3b. my pitching staff is getting better and better. tyler chatwood is possibly going to be win ROY. he is pitching great.

right now it is aug 31 and i am 70-59. i just swept the dodgers at home to move into second in the division. i am selling out the stadium and am making money also.

i am really in love with this game more now than ever. i am hoping to make the wild card, but even if i don't, i am really positive about my roster next season. next up is almost all division games. the sept call ups are next so i have to see how that goes.

I like Pacheco (I go to 10-15 Rockies games a year), and also think Eric Young Jr. could be a solid leadoff hitter. Kid has speed to burn.

Rockies are a fun team to use in MLB 12.

In year 4 of my franchise and i Resigned price to a 7 year 120mill with an option year. Re-signed Longo to a 10 year 135mill contract and i traded Wade/Shields away to the Nats for Harper.

i played most of the early season to about end of june. then i simmed a few weeks for a test of waht the cpu would have my team playing like. then i played the rest of july and august.

i have used the innings forward thing when games got out of hand and such.

pacheco actually plays good d in the game also. good d for the 3bs i had available. the first guys i used would give up hits that the cpu never did. it stopped when i move pacheco in.

i liked eric young too, but that was the cost of getting anibal sanchez. he was only hitting 220 for me, so i felt i would be better off with sanchez.

they are really fun to play with. when you play who produces and not how they are rated, this game becomes awesome. defense matters too. my backups commit the stupidest errors at the worst times.

Did a Fantasy Draft w/ the Rockies and acting as GM am just simming through seasons.

                  2012

                  Rotation:

                  1) Josh Johnson

                  3B Hanley Ramirez
                  C Yadier Molina
                  LF Lance Berkman
                  1B Ike Davis
                  2B Jurickson Profar

                  Bench:

                  C Mike Zunino
                  2B Freddy Galvis
                  OF Gary Brown
                  LF Bobby Abreu

                  Bullpen:

                  CP Mariano Rivera
                  RP Johnny Venters
                  RP David Robertson
                  RP Jason Grilli
                  RP Tyler Clippard
                  RP Bobby Parnell
                  RP Addison Reed

Mo had 61 saves in '12 and retired a champ

                  ... won World Series ( Zimmerman won Cy Young and MVP going 22-2 w/ 2.13 era & 220 K's )

                  Next Season...

                  2013

signed Marmol to the bullpen from loss of Mo.. and put Clippard as CP.. Gary Brown moved to LF as I let Berkman walk in Free Agency.

... left rotation same order.. moved Profar to lead-off and...

Won World Series again in '13.. I've never been able to simulate and have such a successful team

The rotation is filth and 2nd in MLB.. The speed and defense are both Top 5. This is a winning core of young players.

I'm just about to enter 2014 going for the 3-peat

100 games down, 62 to go.

Mets are hanging in the playoff race, with a 51-49 record. 7 games behind Miami for the NL East lead, and 5.5 games behind the Braves for the Wild Card.

Looks like I'll be staying pat with the roster, as I've had a few trade proposals rejected, and haven't been offered any trades yet.

I sure do. It's a great feature. No way I'd be 100 games in if I were just playing on the PS3.

Comparing ANY prospect with a hall of famer and all time great pitcher is taking it too far. Prospects get injured and flame out all the time. I'm not sure why you got so defensive...?

Planning to start a franchise pretty soon once I get the system. I will be rolling with the Cubs. Probably will start on rookie until I get used to the game then move up to pro. But I am super excited to get the game.

i love the randomness of each series. i sweep the dodgers to move into second place, get swept by the last place padres (outscored 15-5 in 3 games), and then go to last place atlanta and have won 3 straight. the final game is tomorrow then off to philly who are leading their division tied with the marlins.

i am 4th in the wild card race with st louis up by 4 on philly and miami and i am a game behind both. i am 73-62.

my 40 man roster moved up since they didn't make the playoffs. i was able to rest some pitchers. last game i decided to give guthrie the night off since he was not 100% rested. i used outman, who i got in a trade with cleveland, and he pitched 6 scoreless and then i had to bring in relievers because his pitch count was high. they allowed one ninth inning run and i won 4-1.
