Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
So I started the next series against the Cardinals.
Paul Clemens made his MLB debut for me, and he went 6 innings giving up 8 hits, 4 ERs, and getting 5 Ks. It seemed like they had 1 or 2 baserunners every inning. I kind of expected that.
His counterpart (Kyle Lohse) went 6 innings giving up 8 hits, 3 ERs, and striking out 7.
My bullpen gave up 3 earned runs in 2 innings.
I lost 8-4
Also, the Cardinals had both Carlos Lee and Wandy Rodriguez on their team. Lee was batting 8th in their lineup, which shows just how much firepower they have.Comment

Bengerman's Phillies Franchise
NL East Records:
Phillies are 33-35
3rd Place behind the Nationals (35-31) and Marlins (40-27)
Mets (30-37) and Braves (29-38) sit at 4th and 5th place
Notes:
- The only Phil hitting over .300 is Brian Schneider, and thats in limited action.
- Speaking of which, Schneider will be seeing a lot more action in the near future. Chooch broke his hand, and will be out 1-2 months. Not good, considering he was hitting and had done such a good job with the staff.
- I traded for Yorvit Torreabla out of desperation. It only took a middle of the road RP (David Herndon), so I think I came out pretty well. I happened to time it with a Mike Adams injury that left the Rangers short a pitching arm.
- Polanco has gone cold, but is still hitting .289. Luckily, Galvis is producing, and has gotten his average up to .248.
- I have two scenarios that I could see playing out. I just swept the Blue Jays and got myself into semi-contention. If it stays that way, I may go out and try and find a good 3rd basemen or LFer. One that can adequitly hit for some sorely needed power.
- The other scenario I could see, would be trading away Hamels and/or Victorino for some high level prospects. Of course, I'd have to be blown away to trade Hamels.
- Fun fact. No one on the Phillies has more than 8 HR's (Pence) thus far. Michael Martinez is currently second with 6 HR's, although Ryan Howard has hit 5 since his return.
- The Phillies are 27th in runs scored, but 3rd in team ERA.
- Pence is hitting a measly .238, and Mayberry a putrid .193.
- Cliff Lee is having a Cy Young like seaso with a 5-2 record, 2.33 ERA, and 91/20 K to BB ratio.
- Thats not to say the rest of my rotation hasn't been stellar as well: Hamels (2.64 ERA), Halladay (3.17 ERA), and Worley (3.38 ERA)

He isn't an all star or anything even close, but if you can pitch with him, Luiz Perez of the Blue Jays? He isn't great, but slightly underrated

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Just started one with the Astros. Was gonna simulate a year and then take over and make my own moves but decided to play from beginning to see what I got.
Only played opening day and got shutout 7-0 by Colorado. Couldn't get anything going offensively and a couple errors opened it up for the Rockies. Best thing I could take away was Schafer going 2-3 with two doubles and a stolen base (3rd - probably my first and last time stealing third too lol). Excited to play tonight and see if I can get anything going...Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Yankees took game 1 from the Orioles 5-0 behind the arm of Ivan Nova. Nova pitched a 9 inning shutout allowing 7 hits. His location was key. Any time the Orioles managed to get a player on a base, it seemed like Nova key'ed in and was able to force the double play ball.
Game 2 went into extra innings. Hughes was pulled after a 9 hit, 4 run, 4 innings of work. Phelps stepped in pitching a solid 4 and allowing 2 hits, and striking out 5. Soriano pitched 4, causing chaos striking out 7 batters. In the top of the 13th inning Boone Logan got the call and just wasn't there. He gave up a 4 run, 6 hit inning and it seemed as if the Yankees were on the verge of losing. The Yankees were able to work counts and managed to get the bases loaded with 2 outs and Nick Swisher was called upon once again to give the Yankees a win. His clutch factor must have been on E as he went down swinging on a ball outside and high.
Game Note: The Yankees gave up 5 errors. They just didn't seem to ever be in the game mentally. Jeter came out to say the team just needs to regain focus and make the logical play. Just because we wear pin stripes doesn't mean everything is going to fall into play perfectly.
The Yankees came out firing on all cylinders while hosting game 3 vs the Orioles. The fans got treated to 36,000 free Yankee caps and the appreciation could be heard through all 9 innings. Big Tex got the Yankees first grand slam in the 3rd inning, his 1 of 2 Home Runs through the game. He finished with 8 RBI's. Garcia pitched a solid 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, not to bad for a man who last week was riding pine but got the call to starter when Hiroki was plagued with an injury that'll leave him out for 2 months.
Series notes: Tex, and A-Rod had been hitting below average for their status. Their bats couldn't have caught heat at a better time. The two combined for 4 doubles, 12-24 hitting, 3 HR's, and 14 RBI's. Cano's bat has started to pick up as he began the series with a avg in the 270's and is sitting at .304 now.
The Yankees begin a series with KC Royals and then will be hosted by the Tampa Bay Rays. Brett Gardner has found himself back on the bench after coming up with 0's in his last 10 at bats. Although he leads the lg in steals, he will most likely be called upon strictly for base running. Girardi stated he'd like to give Brett a few games off to get himself ready mentally. Ibanez is hitting a dismal .178, but Jones has been picking up the ball much better lately as he has 4 doubles on the season with his limited action.5Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Took two of three from the Rangers in Texas. I already wrote about the near no-hitter in Game Two, and I was confident that we would whip out the brooms in Game Three with Matt Garza on the hill, but that was hope was premature. Garza gave up two in the first, but settled down to go seven strong. Yet, two was all Texas needed, as Seattle could only muster one run off of Neftali Feliz.
Now, the Mariners head to Chicago to play the White Sox, at the drab US Cellular Field.EPL - Arsenal
MLB - Seattle Mariners
NBA - Cleveland Cavaliers
NFL - Philadelphia Eagles
MLS - Seattle Sounders

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Started a franchise with the Mets.. almost done with April, played every game so far.. record 7-12..
Stars on my team so far -- Wright, Bay, Duda, and, of all people, Adam Loewen (played in 15 games, hitting.415, 2 hrs, a ton of triples and doubles)..
The rest of my team is so-so to dreadful.. Davis batting .231, Tejada can't break .150, and Torres just is dreadful
Pitching staff is ok.. a bunch of quality starts from Santana, Niese, Dickey and Gee.. Pelfrey and the pen (with the exception of a rookie pitching to a 0.00 era) are bad..Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Playoff time in my Yankees franchise.
Took 1st in the division after sweeping the deciding last 3-game series of the regular season against the Red Sox.
ALDS:
New York vs Chicago
Texas vs Boston
NLDS:
Miami vs Colorado
St. Louis vs Atlanta
The Yankees won the ALDS 3-0 against the White Sox.
Game 1 was especially notable with C.C. dominating, going 9 full innings and shutting out the White Sox offense, allowing 5 hits and no walks.
Kuroda and Pineda followed suit and propelled the Yankees to a 3-0 series sweep.
Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter were also instrumental in the Yankees win. Tex was the driving force on offense with 4 HRs and 6 RBIs while the Yankees skipper boasts an average of .650 with an RBI to his credit.
Boston lost the other AL division series 1-3 against Texas.
In the National League, Miami took care of Colorado (3-0) and Atlanta won a hard fought series against St. Louis 3-2.
ALCS:
New York vs Texas
NLCS:
Miami vs Atlanta
The Bronx Bombers kept on rolling in Game 1 of the ALCS, earning a hard-fought win against the Rangers.
It was a pitcher's duel for most of the game, as C.C. Sabathia and Neftali Feliz kept both offenses at bay until the 7th inning.
After Curtis Granderson doubled home Brett Gardner in the top of the 7th, Yankees ace Sabathia gave up hits to Michael Young and Josh Hamilton, before Adrian Beltre doubled them home with a vicious liner to centerfield.
When all hope was lost in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and a 1-2 count, Nick Swisher singled and A-Rod blasted a two-run walkoff homer into left field to give the Yankees the win, 3-2.
In Game 2, it was once again a pitcher who stole the show and delivered a performance for the ages.
Hiroki Kuroda became only the 3rd player (and 2nd Yankee) in the history of baseball that posted a no-hitter in the postseason, after Don Larsen (NYY, 1956, Perfect Game) and Roy Halladay (PHI, 2010) achieved the feat before him.
Kuroda took a Perfect Game into the 8th inning, when a Derek Jeter throwing error after a routine ground ball by Adrian Beltre cost him his bid for perfection.
Kuroda did not falter, however, to continue dominating the Rangers, giving up a walk in the 9th inning before sealing his historic achievement when Michael Young grounded out to Derek Jeter, the latter making good on his mistake that cost Kuroda his Perfect Game.
New York took Game 2 with a convincing 5-0 win and are in the driver's seat to win the ALCS and advance to the World Series.
Game 3 will take place tonight.Last edited by daenius; 04-20-2012, 01:29 PM.Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Well, I went 0-4 in my series against the Cardinals.
Jordan Lyles was very solid in the 4th game of the series giving up just 2 ERs in 6 innings, but he got absolutely no help from the offense. There were many times when I had a runner on 2nd with one or no outs, and I couldn't drive them in. I lost that game 2-0.
The only hitter that didn't come away looking awful in that series was Scott Moore. He hit 2 HRs in the third game off of Zack Greinke. He hit so well in the series that I decided to make him my starting 3B over Edwin Encarnacion for a while.
I made a small move before the last game of the series, moving Jarrod Dyson down to AAA and bringing up Enerio Del Rosario to help out my bullpen. He went 1 inning allowing 1 hit and striking out 1. Good start considering my bullpen has been awful so far.
On a side note, the Cardinals started Chris Johnson at 3B in the 3rd game. So they have Wandy Rodriguez, Carlos Lee, and Chris Johnson who were all on my team last season...
Anyways, that series dropped me down to 1-6 to start the seasonLast edited by UTAllTheWay; 04-20-2012, 02:28 PM.Comment
