Re: Is anyone else loving Pulse Pitching?

It took a few games but I'm kind of digging it now. I had to revamp my thinking for placing the marker think of the pulse circle as a whole. Instead of thinking about hitting the spot if I time it right, I started thinking about what would happen if I timed it wrong. That helped a lot as I had a terrific game with the Cubs vs. Padres where I shut out San Diego. I went 7 innings with Garza and only walked two, walked four guys for the game, and struck out eight.

I still love the mechanics of analog pitching and, with the visual and rumble aids turned off, find pitching with breaking stuff challenging. I think if I could make throwing fastballs for strikes more difficult in that mode, I'd stick with it. But I'm kind of hooked a bit on pulse that EVERY pitch can be a challenge to throw.

Tell me about it. I was playing on All Star? I believe and in the first 2 innings with Ian Kennedy I walked 4 or 5 guys and was getting behind everyone else. Gave up 7 earned I believe. No matter what I was doing I couldnt get that circle small and it seemed more like a crapshoot gimmick than actual skill. I tried everything and pressing at different times and nothing worked. Ill have to give it another whirl but in the meantime, back to meter.

Re: Is anyone else loving Pulse Pitching?

I only played 1 game so far with the pulse pitching and I kind of like it. I was using Johan Santana and noticed that I could throw fastballs almost anywhere I wanted, but when I tried to throw the circle change it was not as good. Then when I tried to throw his slider I had no control what so ever. It was very hard to make a good pitch with it, but when I did I loved it. I think I'm gonna like this pulse pitching.

          I just can't get pulse pitching. Wish I could, but I can't.

Crapshoot gimmick? I never usually argue with people over preferences but when I see just blatant unwarranted attacks, I must respond.

This I not a gimmick. I have hit the circle many, many times. Not 100% of the time because it does take skill, but certainly enough that my numbers are respectable.

Yes it does take practice, it does take patience, and it does take skill to master it.

To each their own if they enjoy it or not but don't just all out bash it and call it a gimmick because you do not have the patience to learn the new interface.

Re: Is anyone else loving Pulse Pitching?

There a few reasons, I actually do not prefer it

At first I liked the concept but than after playing a few games with it, I actually felt PULSE PITCHING had too much of a 'shoot the water into the mouth" carnival approach to it. Whereas the way 2K baseball implemented it a few years ago, it had a bit more complexity to it because there were several stages of pulses which required a greater variety of timing and presses to achieve a wider range of results to your pitch.

It seems with this pulse, all it is a simple timing of one shrinking a growing ring that pulses extremely fast. Whereas the Meter pitching can make even scrubs into all stars when you master it, I find that the PULSE makes even the best all stars very mediocre pitchers because they no longer have that control and strike zone edge location consistency that gives them such a distinct advantage.

After alot of time with each mode, I actually find the CLASSIC pitching to yield the best and most realistic results and yet it achieves this with the most simplistic of all the interfaces.

The realism for me in playing sports games is to play them thru the eyes (and abilities) of the players Im in control of. And only be able to acheive the results as they would/should in real scenarios. That is why I simply enjoy using just TIMING as my batting option and leaving the stride and swing location up to the actual player's ratings to determing the results. And I prefer the same with CLASSIC pitching so that the control and effectiveness are purely determined by the pitcher's ratings rather than the interface timing masteries or lack of.

This has always worked best for me to yield a much more realistic game with more dynamic range

I agree with you but just wanted to add that pulse pitching slows down the game way too much for me, aside from driving my eyes crazy.

So, Pared. Aparently you reiceive a paycheck with the signature of a Sony exec on it. I would love to know how you come by this highly incisive knowledge of the game logic? I suggest for now on, you start all of your helpful insite with "IMO...", don't you?

Did this post really just happen?? Really? On a discussion forum, you act like it is outside of the realm of possibility that maybe Pared and one of the devs had well... a discussion. You did know that SCEA developers visit this site, right?

I wait 3 or 4 pulses, maybe even more, for every pitch. It takes way too long.

Hahahahaha!! Uhhhhh, then don't wait that long! LoL

Hey guys, I haven't played that many games yet - and I was having a question about it.

When you "miss" and the circle gets big, is there any effect other than the ball's location? Meaning, will the opportunity for the opponent to get a solid hit increase?

Likewise, when you nail it perfect, and circle's real small, does their chance to get a solid hit decrease?

If you increase Human Starter Stamina, this problem is easily rectified.
And you're relationship with Sony devs? Or are you equating the real world to a video game?

I don't like having to wait for the display to pop up after you select a pitch. Like you press X, then your pitcher shakes his head, THEN it pops up. It's only a second but it bugs me.

With some good pitchers like Verlander and Fister it was nice using pulse pitching. Then I used Jacob Turner, and his meter was going so fast I feel like it's impossible to throw a pitch anywhere near where I want.

But I like being able to watch the pitchers delivery all the way through. Brings even more of a feeling like watching a game on TV, but still controlling the game at the same time.

But I only got to play 2 games, then I left for Florida, and I'm coming back to tomorrow. Once I get more time in tomorrow night I'll have a better idea.

Sure. Sometimes when you miss and the circle is at its widest point, you may throw a meatball and your opponent will tee off on it. Other times it will go way outside the zone.

I just tried every single option from classic to pure analog to meter and back to pulse.

I could get into a huge post for each one but I won't.

To each their own. The game has multiple options for pitching and hitting for a reason. Choose the one that works best for you.
