Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
I played my first game online last night using the Play Now feature. I am dissapointed that there is a timing issue like last year. For me to catch up to the fastball I had to start my swing at the pitchers release. Even if I would wait back on a curve, the analysis would show me as late. It is very difficult to take a pitch. There was lag because the ball disappeared when it crossed the plate, and batted balls seemed to come out of the catchers glove.
Say it ain't so!!!!!Last edited by Openroad_7; 03-07-2012, 09:24 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
Very similar experience to last year. Last year I played two or three games and gave up, never played online again. Here are the negative points:
1. Lag. It didn't get to the point where everything would freeze but the lag was more than noticeable, it forced me to swing at everything way before I was supposed to. Equally with pitching, If I timed it right, it would clearly go under the line (analog pitching). I had to adjust and time the lag in order to be able to do something useful out of my online experience. The game went to extra innings (0-0, that's right) because neither my opponent nor I could hit much. I actually took a no hitter with Felix until the 8 and then the lag forced me to give up a hit. Don't really complain much as the lag was responsible for me not allowing any hits in the first place. I ended up striking out 17 in 9 innings (and 2 more in the tenth). My batters struck out 9 times.
2. Random pitch selection: Like last year, sometimes (so often I lost count) my pitcher just selected his pitch without me asking for it. Not only that he also pitched once or twice after wildly selecting the pitch. I didn't even have the time to step off the mound, he just pitched. Luckily, the lag was so bad that because they were all fastballs my opponent couldn't hit.
I've played online before and the best was in '10. After that nothing worked.
I know it sounds like a rant but what i described above is a real and objective account of what happened in the game.
Reading all your comments, it makes my want to try again but last year I gave up after 3 games and I don't know if I'll be able to be patient this year.
I just posted the same experience about the timing of the swing. If you wait to see where the pitch location is going to be, your are already too late and will not make good contact.
I forgot to mention the many dribblers I have seen so far. Hope this is not a trend. Didn't see this while playing offline.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
mlb 11 was an online killer for me. i stuck strictly to franchise mode after trying to play with some friends. this year, i think i might be in the same boat.
-online league draft time is flawed. my system is set to (at the time) march 6th, 130pm. so i set the draft date for tuesday, 2pm.. and when i get my pals in and we choose teams it says 167hrs until the draft. i had to sit there and try to trick the league by choosing an obscure date and time so we could do our draft right off the bat. there should be an option to just start draft once the league is activated..
-the other thing about online leagues that annoyed me was that we set the play style to veteran everything, and as i'm losing my first game. my very novice friend is up 8-0... confused i asked what was going on and he had all of his settings to beginner, which carried over into our online league - even though it was set to veteran..
-when it came time to finally play eachother. me being in vancouver, and him in toronto. our game was very laggy with two good internet connections. we got to the 8th inning in a 4-4 tie, and got hit with major traffic and lost connection. we reset the game (after much difficulty) and played again only to have it dropped again in the 8th of a 2-1 game.. third times a charm? yes. we finally finished the game. only this time, it didn't register and says 'unplayable' and we cannot reset the game OR advance. so our season has to be re-started..
-diamond dynasty was going to be my go to mode.. but there are no canadian cities listed in the city name. this is a major bummer as i had hoped to re-create the vancouver canadians, edmonton trappers and ottawa lynx.
-i also was under the impression that DD could be played amongst friends, and i have yet to come across the option to challenge my friend which instantly KILLS this mode for me (online anyways) as i've always found games against other players to be super laggy and exploited.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
I played Millennium last night -- and won-- in a titanic 1-0 battle between the Orioles and Pirates. The only run came on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze by Clint Barmes. Jake Arrieta and James McDonald both turned in great 7+ inning starts.
We played on All-Star for both hitting & pitching and I believe we both used Zone hitting & Pulse Pitching. Overall, I found the online performance to be satisfactory in this game. It barely affected pitching, if it all. Hitting was more difficult, as it was tougher to read the pitch... I commented it seemed like there were frames missing as the ball came in. Nothing drastic, but just off enough compared to offline to make a difference.
I echo Bahnzo's sentiments about the camera options. I set custom ones up for offline, yet was given the default camera online (including pitching from catcher view which lead to a quick restart). That also affected my hitting, as I tilted the default batting view down slightly to better read low pitches.
I also quickly abandoned previous games online, but after last night's game I wanted to play again. I suggested dropping the hitting difficulty to Veteran to compensate for the slight disadvantage when at the dish.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
I played a game last night and again this morning. Mostly positive, tbh. There is a bit of latency, but it was relatively lag free. Its like any other game online, in NBA 2K, I have to adjust my shot timing, in NHL I have to make passes a fraction of a second quicker. This was similar and the only thing that I had to apply that to was the analog pitching, really. Hitting was ok, as even though what was happening on screen didn't always match up, if the timing was right the ball was hit where it was supposed to.
My issues online with this game are the same as every other baseball game: guys always pick their ace and they throw junk low all..game..long. Makes for unrealistic hit variety as you get seeing eye singles and tons of groundouts. Anyway, that's not going to change so I just deal with it. Nothing scared me away from getting my DD starter. Well except for one thing...
...The second game the guy quit on me in the top of the 9th when he was down 4-1 and I didn't get credit for the win. That kind of sucks.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
I've had one game where the lag was almost unnoticeable and another where the game was basically unplayable....what's funny was after the first game I was sooooo stoked.. Then bam, right back to reality.Last edited by misterkrabz; 03-07-2012, 01:14 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
Well, so much for that. Last game was near impossible to play. Jumping all over the place and now my DD game is stuck in the 12th inning with the red Traffic indicator above. I can quit out but I imagine ill take the loss. Oh well, probably not going to jump back online with this one anyways. The fun factor drops dramatically when the game gets this laggy.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
Played two DD Head to head games last night...traffic delay dropped the connection in the 4th inning in first game. Went back to lobby and got another game started with same opponent and then traffic delay dropped the connection in the top of the 10th with a tied score...sigh...no credit given for either game...
Though my 2 DD games played vs. CPU teams played out just fine. Guess I'll try again tonight...PSN ID: mmdmaznn

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Online Impressions
I love the DD feature, but I still had about 3-4 games drop last night due to traffic. I played around 10 games too. It definitely seems playable, but I almost wish they made ranked games only 5-6 innings. I hate playing for an hour and having the game drop.
Also anyone else find it sad that MVP 05 ran perfectly online and that was nearly a decade ago? We shouldn't be having problems at all online, period, especially when one of the main features was to incorporate online and offline into one product.Comment
