    Re: Your hitting strategy

I think I finally got hitting down with pure analog hitting. I'm using Armor & Sword's sliders which has User Batting all at 5 except for Solid Hit which is at 4. This is on All-Star.

I have played 3 games so far, and Mike Napoli and Eric Hosmer have done well. =)

    I use fantasy baseball btw.

Also what i've noticed is to pay attention to pitch tendancies. Like on my RTTS guys some pitchers will live outside all day so i'll sit FB outside and have good success. Some pitchers alternate. They actually have pitching strategies, it's cool.

        Re: Your hitting strategy

Since i started playing this series back with 07 i have always used guess pitch 1/6. Not that it matters due to my lack of muscle control with two strikes and my eyes seeing that a ball is headed a mile east or west of the plate or into the sky over my head.

I have never been able to lay off of them and it has cost me probably a few hundred walks over the years. This year is especially hard with that. seems like they have really amped up the AI in that regard.

It seems like the more i swing at those pitches way outside the strike zone the more they know it and will throw more of them to consecutive batters in an inning when i have two strikes against me. It never fails i have yet to not swing at one of them.

I'm almost afraid to put the controller down with two strikes for fear of getting called out on strikes. However i feel that it may be the only way for me personally to not swing at those god awful balls in other time zones...

I do the same thing. Guess fastball, that way I can time my swing a little better.

But I'm still way too aggressive. I swing at all kinds of junk. Haven't walked yet after like 6 games. I did drop the CPU pitcher's strike and consistency down; he seemed like he was inside the K zone on 99% of his pitche.

            Re: Your hitting strategy

I use Timing hitting. I take the first pitch 95% of the time, and I usually take until I get a strike.

Doesn't seem to matter though. I get myself in good hitters counts all the time and it always ends up with a ground out or fly out for the most part. Out of all the games so far I've played, I've only scored 2 runs in each of those games, with the exception of one game I scored 4 runs. But that was only because of a 2 run walk-off home run.

I'm playing a game right now. Pirates (me) vs. Brewers. I was winning 1-0 going into the 9th. Blew the save with Hanrahan on an Aramis Ramirez homer. Tied 1-1. Go into extra innings and hit a game tying solo shot with Neil Walker in the 11th inning. Tied 2-2. That's where I'm at currently in this game. If I end up losing, my streak of only scoring 2 runs each game continues.

I'm never one to complain about this great series, but I'm getting really frustrated today.

EDIT: Well, I ended up winning this game 3-2 in 14 innings. Took me 14 innings to score 3 lousy runs.

              Re: Your hitting strategy

For those of us struggling I think I found an answer until we improve.

              1. Minimize CPU pitch speed.
              2. Minimize CPU k-frequency
              3. Max out human contact
              4. Max human foul ball frequency

Then be patient, but don't completely limit yourself though. If a first pitch is a meat ball pounce.

Step 2 will get you ahead in the count.
Step 1 will give you a chance to read pitches
Steps 3 and 4 will keep you alive with 2 strikes

Then eventually some pitches are so out of the zone you can take them easily and draw walks.

Then as you improve, work your way down.

Best strategy/advice I can give is to turn guess pitch off and learn to track the ball...The Show is good enough where you can actually see the spin of the ball so visual tracking is possible. GP causes too much anticipation because even guessing what appears to be "right" might not actually be in the zone since GP is really just a vacinity and you will swing at a bad pitch just because your controller is vibrating. If you play online experienced players can spot and will take advantage of someone who relies heavily on GP. Learning to track the ball is the best way of hitting...thankfully after '08 there are plenty of practice scenarios to work on your batting skills. It used to be very frustrating before they had batting practice.

What I do is guess a pitch and then take until I get it or I get two strikes. If I get my pitch and swing and miss or foul it off, I guess a different pitch and repeat the process. With two strikes, I still use guess pitch, but obviously I have to protect the plate.

Anyone drawing a decent number of walks? I don't think I've walked once. Mostly that's my fault, though.

I don't swing on anything until I have two strikes unless it's the pitched I guessed in my favorite location, then I just try to foul pitches off until I get a pitch I can handle.

I rarely get walked but I do get pitch counts up, usually see 8 pitches an at bat

The more patient you are in each at bat, the better your chances of walking/scoring later in the game. I have had several games recently where I stretched ABs out long enough to tire the pitcher out early. Even though not all of the lengthy ABs were walks, by the 5th/6th inning I was getting walked because their starter was out of gas.

I think a big this is to not pass up a 2-0 count every time, just watch the pitch in. If you always take 2-0 pitches you are missing out on a LOT of meatball pitches. Also, if you are down in the count you can keep fouling with contact swing, even intentionally swing late to just foul the ball out of play and wait for a pitch over the plate.

I try hard to lay off pitches but find it hard and try and work the counts best I can. I don't use the guess pitch because it forces me to watch what is being pitched so the longer I play the better I am getting at regonizing what being pitched which helps my hitting alot.
