I said he has decent even plus contact and power vs rhp...now care to look at his OBP, over all avg if that matters as it isnt really important to me as niether are rbis, and then look at his defensive skills on any website..and not fielding %. So Im still cool with my position
However in your original statement, I still agree with you that he is a terrible fielder. And Edwin should be a full time DH... no reason for him to be at 3rd ever.

I was making the case that hes actually over rated in my opinion. He can hit rhp fairly consistent, and is pretty bad against lefties and against both he has poor disciple and patience and hes a sub avg defender..which in my mind makes him a platoon/bench player and his stats dont reflect that in my opinion. The opposite opinion has also been stated that hes under rated. and SCEA tend to go by stats and weighting them and avergaing things out from what gather..so even if he did have a monster 2009 thats not weighted as much as his down 2010 and 2011 where his stats dropped..including his power numbers but kept similar splits. Id say a variation of this is what causes all of us to second guess SCEA stock ratings...we want potential reflected in stats is how I see it. Lind "could" be a good first baseman, but he hasnt really been a good first baseman..he had a good year as a DH but still had weaknesses.

Ya I am wondering how SCEA does the ratings also.... It seems like its stats based. That's why I can draft Carl Crawford in round 10 and Hanley Ramirez in Round 7.

Can a mod please change the thread title to "Adam Lind rating discussion" or something?

Just he was brought up and is a good example. Any player can ultimately be debated but none of us know for 100% how scea weights or values certain skills, we know that from overall ratings making guys rank higher than people may agree on..we also see it in team overall when we think a team should be higher raked...I honestly think this thread is gonna get messy either way because its all subjective and some on here (including me sometimes) are wanting a definitive answer. (or at least have more people agree with them than dont)

Adam Lind was an elite first baseman the first half of the season, before his nagging back problem.

Ok I think its been solved, Adam Lind should be rated 100 in every single category.

Adam Lind glorious master first baseman of sub .300 OBP-ness.

Dude's not even the weirdest rated 1B on the Jays. David Cooper put up a .364/.439/.535 in Vegas last year and had a not terribly awful .678 OPS in 71 AB with the big club but based on his hitting attributes I'm not entirely convinced he could swing the bat without falling on his face in the game.

They, the cpu or whomever they use really lowered Jason Heyward across the board. I see him taking a hit on the offensive, but his defense should still be stellar.
Here are his ratings: RT contact-62 LT contact-50, RT pwr-74 LT pwr-55, PLT Vsn-34 PLT dspln-99, Clutch- 61. I agree with that he struggled at the plate, but less games...

DEF ratings: Spd-54, Arm str-47 Arm accry-38, Reaction-74, Fldng ablty-53. He did not struggled defensively last year... I will change his attributes in my franchise when I start it...

According to baseball-reference.com, his fielding %.974 lst yr was 9pts below the league avg at.983%

But yet I had Matt Kemp in center.... lazy pop fly and i get him in the circle and the ball hits his glove and he drops it.....dude only made 5 errors last year. I don't get this game whatsoever.

I am interested in why you disagree with him. In 1360 career chances at CF he made 16 errors. He played over 155 games in each of the last three seasons, 2 errors in 2009, 5 errors in 2010, and 5 errors in 2011. Gold Glove winner in 2011.

Is your point anything is possible?

I think he was disagreeing that putting Prince Fielder in CF would be as effective as having Kemp there. Not whether Kemp is a good fielder. Kemp might need a fielder ability bump, i don't know his rating.

On the Adam Lind discussion. I just lowered his range closer to Fielders which is i believe 38, but i did raise his ability to mid 70s. This will let him catch the ball but have crap range which i feel he has.

Agreed, I noticed that yesterday when going through the rosters. At the very least he should have high contact attributes. He's not much of a power guy, but he's pretty much useless right now. I believe he is the lowest rated 1st baseman in the Jays system on the default rosters.

Anyway, in an attempt to get this thread back on track, Carlos Ruiz' blocking is the lowest of all his defensive attributes. It is definitely his strength and I have no numbers to back this up other then watching, but he is the best catcher in the league at blocking balls in the dirt. Obviously not a gamechanger, but it left me scratching my head.

This one I agree with, and I am a Braves fan so I'd love to disagree with you, but Ruiz is definitely one of the best at blocking balls in the dirt.

Well, that was just one error then, so four more to go. You yourself said he made 5 errors, so why isn't he allowed to have 1 in the game?
