Re: Pulse Pitching is too easy!!

Now that a lot of you in this thread have a good amount of games under your belt, how are those of you that felt it was too easy feeling now?

I'm still feeling like there's possibly too much of an emphasis being placed on Pulse timing (versus ratings). But, I'd like to get through the rotation once more before making any sweeping judgements.

Though, the more I play, the more the title of this thread may not actually suit my experiences. It's not that Pulse pitching is too easy for me (in regards to strike percentages and perfectly timing/missing the timing on the Pulse), but how (SO FAR) the CPU is reacting to decently timed pitches in general.

Anyway, onward I go. Just checking in with everyone to gauge how their Pulse journey is going.

*EDIT* Just wanted to add that I realize all of the interfaces have a timing element (minus Classic). So it's not as if I'm suggesting that User Timing shouldn't matter. It should. Right now I'm just keeping an eye on whether or not I'm TOO successful when I do throw well timed pitches (which is not actually that often).

Re: Pulse Pitching is too easy!!

I've gone back to exclusively using Classic.

After a game in which I gave up only 2 runs, I went back out and gave up 5. But I'm feeling more comfortable with how the runs are coming using Classic than I did with Pulse.

My experience isn't similar to many that have complained their lower rated pitchers were being punished severely on Pulse. I found it quite the opposite for me and I think the size of the circle is partly to blame.

I also did not play a whole lot of games so really make a judgment on the interface. As I've said, I like it, but I just find myself enjoying Classic again.

Last year, for about a month, I raved on about how great Analog pitching was. Until, ultimately, I became too good with the interface (having to drop consistency a bunch and then control to compensate for my skill), and switched back to Classic (on AS) and Meter (on HOF).

I didn't even bat an eye when I made the interface switch. But this year, I love Pulse pitching! I want to use Pulse pitching (for all the reasons I mentioned in the other thread).

I promised myself I would stick to Defaults this year, and don't want to inevitably have to handicap the CPU hitting for a jump to HOF. A lot of other players on OS have already had to do that, and I'd definitely argue that those guys are better at this game than me! LOL!

The AI seems to have a higher aptitude on AS using Classic, and I hate the idea (but may do it anyway) of having to again drop consistency (and later control) in order to compensate to use Pulse. I realize that AI aptitude doesn't change based on interface, but the CPU PCI placement is off a lot more than I'd like when I time the Pulse well (and not even meaning "perfect," but decently).

I'm going to stay the course here, and tinker if this continues. I just hope what I'm experiencing is just a good stretch, for now. But eventually, I'll have to decide whether I'm just more of a ratings guy and go back to Classic. I just was hoping that Pulse was a lot more like Classic than it's CURRENTLY feeling.

I might switch out of using Pulse pitching too. I'll see what my strike% is using meter and analog pitching and then determine from there if I wanna switch or not.

That bolded quote is the ultimate question you'll have to answer. Like you, I was hoping PP was similar to Classic in the way that ratings matter, but I still had some user control input as well. I think to an extent PP IS exactly like that, but not enough on the ratings side to suit my needs so that's why I've gone back to Classic again like I've used since I started playing this series.

I hoped PP was a lot more like Classic as well with more user input, but unfortunately I don't believe that is the case.

Dude, this situation won't get better before April. Just let SCEA work with it to the end of the month. I like your passion, but it's misdirected. Relax for a couple of weeks and let's see where things go. It's spring training and we got lotsa time and baseball ahead.

Re: Pulse Pitching is too easy!!

Guess I'll post my thoughts. I've been a meter guy since I starting playing the Show back in '08. This year I decided I would give PP a fair shake as well as Classic, which I had never ever tried before. I started a season with the Nats and played 7 or 8 games with PP on HOF level with default sliders. The problem I started to notice wasn't as much that I was too accurate. I mean even with small circles I still was not pinpointing my locations. I was around where I wanted to be but not pinpointing. My issue, and I see it has been brought up in the thread, was it seemed like the computer just wasn't punishing my mistakes. I'd leave all kinds of pitches down the middle of the plate and the computer would foul them back or not really hit the ball hard. In particular, there seemed to be a lot of foul balls. I think through those 7 or 8 games my team ERA was 1.80ish, I had given up only 2Hrs. Both were league leading numbers by a decent amount. I also had the least amount of walks but there were a number of teams on my heels. What ended up happening was I ended up not fearing the CPU on the level. I wouldn't nibble because the comp wasn't making me pay for my mistakes. Cue me switching to classic for the first time.

Thoughts on classic. On classic, the first things I noticed was that I wasn't nearly as accurate. I walked as many guys in two games as I did in 7 on PP. Also, the computer was much better at making me pay for leaving balls over the middle of the plate. I had nowhere near the foul balls either. What bothered me was I felt like I didn't have enough control. Now maybe I haven't quite figured out how to optimize classic pitching. I was under the impression you want to let go of the button right as the controller shakes but I also played around enough with releasing before the rumble and holding in long after the rumble. I couldn't tell a definitive difference between any of the 3 release points. What was happening was I would too often get ahead of hitters and want to paint a corner or even throw a pitch completely out of the zone and hanging stuff over the middle of the plate. I mean I was calling for low and away sliders off the plate that were too often backing up over the inside middle of the plate. And of course the computer rarely missed those mistakes. I think my team ERA over the 5 games I played on classic was upwards of 6 runs a games.

So basically I feel like I'm stuck in the middle. PP gives me what I believe is fair control but the computer's offensive is too inept. On Classic I don't have nearly the control I want and the computer is taking advantage of most of my mistakes. I want the control of pulse pitching with the computer offense of Classic. I think I'm going to go back to meter for awhile and see how I do with it. I played my last game with meter and the computer offense was pretty good. It's just going to be whether I feel like I'm too accurate with the meter.

Note: If anyone has tips on how to be somewhat more accurate with pitches on classic I'm all ears. I like a lot of things about classic but I just feel like it's too random. I don't want to pinpoint pitches but I can't stand seeing what are supposed to be low and away sliders off the plate end up high and inside, etc.

                      1. I am FORCED to nibble the corners because it is not easy to pinpoint every pitch. And sometimes, if a pitcher is having a bad day, I'll get the PP circle small and the pitch will still sail down the middle. And the CPU punishes pitches down the middle. So I nibble at the corners, which in turn forces me to walk a few hitters.

                      2. Some of you are saying that if you get the PP circle small, the pitch goes exactly where you locate. I'm not seeing this AT ALL. Perhaps it's because I'm playing on Legend with strike zone and pitch markers off and you aren't? And then you're complaining it's too easy.

                      3. The average runs per game per team is approximately 4.5. I'm averaging right around there. Pineda pitched a solid game for me the other day, I ended up losing 3-2. The game before that Kuroda was great in a 7-3 win. The game before that, C.C. got rocked for 5 runs in 3 innings in a 9-2 loss. I'm certainly seeing mixed results.
I tried this...had a great game. I like low scoring games, where you really have to earn your runs and that is exactly what I had. The more I play it on legend, the more comfortable I will get and I'm sure my offense will improve, but it was tough, no doubt. In fact, I shut out the Giants in San Fran.

                        Terpravo's,

Without derailing the thread, I'll quickly answer your question on Classic pitching. The rumble equals maximum effort. Think of it like going all the way into the red on the Meter. Anywhere before the rumble equals less effort (and generally more accuracy). A gentle tap on X should be similar to going to the first line on the Meter.

Gentle tap equals the least amount of effort.

Rumble equals maximum effort (least amount of control).

                        Okay, now back on topic...

I dropped consistency ONE CLICK last night and saw a REMARKABLE (and very pleasing) difference. I finally started to struggle finding the corners. The CPU hitters started to make me work by taking borderline pitches and starting foul ball battles. I had a great time!

I noticed that with Consistency down, the meter was much more difficult to time. Only Mariano Rivera (in my two games) was constantly able to get the meter at it's smallest (good thing).

I lost game two by giving up double digit runs for the first time with this version! 10 runs on 17 hits. Finally.

I'm not going to make any sweeping opinions on only two games, but what I saw felt much more realistic and honestly, much more fun. I'd suggest anyone feeling like I did atleast try it.

Pulse...you and I are back in business!

Pulse and Consistency 4 is a thing of beauty

The cpu does foull off alot of pitches too which doesn't help (lowered that to zero and still see plenty). I don't throw right down the middle though lol. It's just easy to time when to hit the button for the circle to be as small as possible for an accurate pitch.

I tried Legend difficulty and that doesn't make it any harder to time the button to throw the pitch where u want to throw. All that did was give up a homerun on my 4th pitch trying it on a high-inside fastball so no thanks.

I just want accurate strike % while using API like I do, and pulse pitching doesn't do that imo.
seriously listen to what people here are saying, up the difficulty then, it makes the "pulsing" faster and harder to time. if you try it on higher difficulty and its still too easy fine, but i'd definately at least try. and i don't even know what this pulse and consistency setting does, try that first i guess. i'm not a big fan of pulse pitching so i haven't messed around with that.

Ok there is one thing i've seen alot of people saying on this thread that the reason most pitcher's throw down to just 60% strikes is because they're trying to throw them out of the zone. Listen if pitchers only threw balls when they tried to the average % would be about 75-80%, the zone disappears, you lose your release point, get worried about a runner on base and forget to bend your back.

I mean yes pitchers throw out of the zone. But you have to put yourself in the mind of a pitcher, we never think this guy will hurt me or take it out the park ect., if a pitcher is pitching around a batter trust me the call came from the dugout. Pitchers hate pitching around guys its starts a lack of faith in your stuff, and if a pitcher loses faith in what he has bad things WILL happen. If everyone wants to go crazy and flame me or whatever thats fine, but this is pretty much straight from a speech that was given to us at FSU by Tom Glavine.

Another thing i've experienced is even when I try to throw a ball maybe just a lil outside the zone it for some reason comes back and falls in the zone, now when actually pitching i've had plenty of games where I had trouble hitting the corner but never when I was trying to miss the zone by a little did it fall in for a strike.(well except home games in high school, gotta love that home field advantage)

Hello, I have a question regarding PP and figured I would post it here.

What attributes directly affect how close the circle gets to the ball? My rtts 4 Seam fastball has 99 velocity; 98 control; 75 movement and I can't get the circle to get anywhere close to the ball. So I figure one of the other pitching attributes must control that.

BB/9; K/9; H/9; HR/9 are all pretty much understandable so I'm thinking the Clutch attribute probably does this. Which really doesn't make sense to me but IDK, that's why I'm asking.
