Russell just said in this thread that 8 1/2 hits/gm is about the median or average number. That equates to a .240 to .250 batting average. So it puzzles me how a very respectable 34-10 record can have a .211 batting average and be happy with that. You're a good player I'm assuming, why isn't your batting average in the .240 to .250 range? That is where batting averages SHOULD be in my opinion, offline AND online.

I usually center swing too, I'm 48-25 and I'm only hitting .167 How can guys like you and me win more than we lose batting so poorly? Because other people are hitting even worse! lol

Why are two respectable players batting so far below where the number should be offline or online and still winning 70-80% of their online games?

lol @ that record, trust me Im not that good I PLAY FOR FUN. Most of those wins are due to guys quitting after several balks (trying to quick pitch me) or simply losing connection. Record has nothing to do with my Batting average

Anyways, point made, my average is .167 and I'm NOT happy with that, but for some reason I can still win 65-70% of my games with it.

My point is made, enjoy your .211 avg and I'll enjoy my .167 avg. lol

Go to user settings in the menu and scroll down to "Online Challenge Settings" and Change the Hitting difficulty to Veteran and the Pitching difficulty to Hall of Fame. Do this for both the "Game Room" and "Play Now" options.

My experience is nearly identical. I'm 1-8 in spring training (with the Mariners) and I'm just not scoring runs...my era is above 5.00 and my team batting average is below .200...I chalked some of it to just being the Mariners but there are situations where my timing it "perfect" my contact is "wheelhouse" and my cursor is right on the ball location and I hit a hard grounder right at someone. It's had me feeling a little cheated at times.

It seems like I get cheated more than I catch a break...the game could really even out some of that if it did a better job surrendering cheap hits. I never really see a jam shot soft liner float over the head of an infielder ...that never seems to happen for me and if you go to a game you hardley watch a game where it doesn't happen at least once. It also seems like it's more difficult to beat out an infield grounder this year. For all the talk of the ball physics being a "game changer" i honestly don't see it...after about 15 games, the hit variety really isn't all that different from past years IMO.

The way this game works is even on wheelhouse pitches with a perfectly timed swing a player is not guaranteed to crush the pitch. A great player will do more in that scenario than a lousy player but we're still talking about percentages. It's not like MVP where if you got a middle-in fastball and timed it perfectly it was going to be driven hard no matter the player and their ratings (all the contact ratings did was change the window size). This game instead of giving timing windows that produce absolute results has timing windows that produce percentile results. It's a design decision and one of the developer controls that keeps results more realistic. You can produce better results by taking more good swings than not but you're never going to launch every pitch with perfect timing as you could in MVP (if your timing were PERFECT).

I can certainly understand not liking it since it can be frustrating but there's nothing broken about it as some posters have kind of implied. I think it works well and exactly as designed.

Baseball isn't a game where you will hit 5 home runs a game and score 10 runs every game you play...you might go 2 weeks and hit 3-4 home runs and not score more than 2 runs a game and then boom...go off for 4 homes runs in one game and score at will....If you are a fan of baseball it's self and not just of the game you will understand the art hitting and scoring a lot better (Just saying) not talking about anyone...Baseball is the best sport in the world cause it's the hardest art to master.

Only problem is that REAL baseball has turned into a homer fest. Most teams these days hit damn near 200 HR's a year. Many exceed that. Yankees hit 222 last year. So, that said, this game is not realistic at all right now. At my current pace, I will hit about 80-90 HR's with the Reds this year. The real life Reds should hit 180-200.

So the game should compensate for your inability to do well simply to reflect a certain outcome?

You do realize that many people complain and moan when the game does this... yet here you are advocating for it. An artificial boost, regardless of your skill, regardless of the difficulty, regardless of your input and decisions only to equate to a certain number....

I hate when games do that. The NBA games have done that at times. If this game would do that it would take a step back. What you're asking for is the exact opposite of what people have asked for year after year. If the game did this, you might as well not even bother playing.
