Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

Every year there are always a few guys that for whatever reason I just can't hit with. This year it's Jose Bautista, Chipper Jones and J.P. Arencibia. I mean it does matter if I get perfect timing and solid contact the ball doesn't go anywhere or if it does it's right at someone. Through 10 games I'm hitting well below .200 with 0 homeruns. But it's only those 3.

That's me. I'm literally hitting .148 with Evan Longoria. Meanwhile Sam Fuld had a 18 game hitting streak and is batting .354, and Carlos Pena is leading the league in home runs, and at one point had 3 grand slams in 3 games.

And I've always noticed that it usually tends to be the superstar players.

I never use guess pitch so that isn't a problem for me. But the strike zone? How do you judge balls and strikes? Also I just remembered you can turn off the PCI. I don't use it so It's just there and serving no purpose for me.

For practice purpose, pitch from your hitting camera. This doubles the amount of pitches you see from that viewpoint. A lot of pitches you don't have to fight the urge to swing...pitches you just watch. There is no pressure of success or frustration of failure. After a few games you should be able to read the ball much better.

this and just concentrate on the middle on the zome for the 1st 2 strikes... when u have 2 strikes get defensive use the contact swing for anything close... its like any thing u have 2 practice, learning the zone is real not that bad... im telling u as a guy who has been struggling 2 hit for years this is really helping... also try tnk sliders (with human solid hits at 4 and cpu pitcher consistency at 5) find under http://www.operationsports.com/forum...d.php?t=540518

The strike zone disappears during the pitcher's wind-up anyways, why turn it off? Its mainly there for guess pitchers and those pitching.

                      1) Someone else made a great point on these forums. "Learn the slider pitch speed that works for you. If you are looking for a fastball and can't get Perfect, Good, Just Early/Late timing on a 91-94 MPH fastball then you need to drop your pitch speed down a click."

                      2) Get a routine and some consistency going before you make a million adjustments. Try this out. Use one camera, one hitting style, and the same pitch slider speed for 20 timing batting practice drills and 10 exhibition games. The plan is before each exhibition game get 2 BP drills in using the same ballpark your going to play your game in. This is a simulation of what MLB hitters do before games and will help you get adjusted to the hitting background. After you have played of all your games you will have seen a total of 2250 pitches. Only after you do that, see how comfortable you feel with the game before you make any camera, hitting style or pitching speed slider adjustments.

I know the main thing to being a good hitter on this game is patience but I lack it no matter what so I need some help with timing and contact. I can never get good or perfect timing. I am just frustrated on the offensive side. HELP

I'm doing better by watching the ball all the way through, but my main issue now lies with the PCI. The issue is I'm not sure what to do with it pre-pitch. Do I sit it in a spot and wait? Do I sit it, lets say...low-middle, then go up if I want?

I'll sit it in a spot (my main thing is low-away but still in the strike zone) and can't lay off that high in the zone pitch with 2 strikes...

I'm posting this question, hoping someone else on this forum has had similar difficulty and has overcome it. I've got a feeling this isn't a widespread problem, but I'm hoping at least one other person has experienced it.

Also, for clarity, I play on analog hitting--I don't know if this would happen with one of the button-press swing mechanisms, but I thoroughly enjoy analog, and don't intend to change.

Anyway, I have terrible difficulty laying off of high fastballs. In general, I am a patient hitter, I get ahead in counts, I draw walks, and have solid batting averages all around, but swinging at high pitches is killing me. I'm not talking about getting fooled by those that are close to the zone, I'm talking about at the eye level of my players and sometimes even higher.

I really don't want to (or intend to) swing, but it happens as almost some sort of unconscious reaction. It feels as if as my eyes follow the ball up the screen, my thumb automatically goes forward as well. On other instances I can tell you exactly when I swung...as those high balls come in, I follow them all the way, and right about the time I see the laces spinning I swing (which is way too late)--but again it is unintentional, I really just want to let it go.

If I recognize it early enough, I pull my thumb off the analog lever, but otherwise I tend to swing at those far too often (sometimes if the pitch is inside the animation of getting out of the way saves me). Fortunately, the CPU doesn't seem to exploit it.

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

I use analog swing and I realize that if I stride Just Early instead of good or perfect I get longer hit balls and homeruns more often. I think this is like the pre-load they mention for the move tutorial for hitting.

Can someone help me with getting good swing timing because i'm either very early or very late. It makes me mad when i get a fastball right down the middle and i get very late timing and foul it off.
