Can you see a players progression/regression at the end of the season? I thought last year I could see that before deciding to resign them or not.

Re: Franchise Guide
In regards to scouting. Keep a notebook and jot down the players name, position and potential so you have it for draft day.
A question about training. If you have it set to auto will the cpu's logic maximize this feature for you? Or will they over or under train and if a player is 31 or older will they train them into regression. I would love to know this as I have never fooled around with training. I have always left it on auto.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Franchise Guide
All right, a few more newbie questions...
- When you place someone on the trade block, do you receive notifications that an offer has been made or a team has interest? Or do you have to check the trade block to see if anyone has offered anything?
- In the same vein, do you receive notifcations when scouting reports are ready?
- Should you scout during spring training?
- How do you fire your coaches?
- Are there training results to view and track?

The one the stuck out to me was having it assign catcher drills to non catcher positions...
It also doesn't seem to recognize the "over training" that is claimed to kick in by assigning more than 3 drills to a single position...
I always do it manually based on this chart: (I believe credit goes to Hustlin' Owl)
Weight Room -> Power R/L ->All
Stretching -> Durability -> All
Sprints -> Speed -> All
Long-Distance Running -> Stamina -> Pitchers
Batting Cages -> Contact R/L -> All
Hitting Coach Session -> Clutch / Plate Visibility / Plate Discipline ->All
Bunting Drills -> Bunting ->All
Base Running Drills -> Base Running Ability / Aggression -> All
Long Toss -> Arm Strength -> All
Infield Drills -> Arm Accuracy / Fielding Ability ->All
Shagging Fly Balls -> Reaction -> All
Catcher Drills -> Plate Blocking -> Catchers
Pitch Simulated Game -> Pitching Clutch -> Pitchers
Pitching Coach Session -> H/9, HR/9, K/9, BB/9 ->Pitchers
Bullpen Session -> Velocity, Control, Break ->Pitchers
A couple years back I switched it to auto mid season and a few weeks later when I checked it the "logic" was so questionable I just continue to do it manually...
My tip:
Don't waste two of your hitting drills on bunting / drag bunting...
You're better off using those for BP / Hitting Coach / Weight Room...IMHO...Comment

Awesome. Another question though is if your told do not assign more than three to each position I see some on this chart like pitchers having 4 etc. Do you rotate them each month to keep it at 3 per player?Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Franchise Guide
I personally, don't have an exact time frame for mixing it up...
When things are working well, I tend to leave them alone and only switch them up to get individual position groups back to hitting the ball or break a cold streak with relievers / closers...
Training is most def one of (if not THE most) "mysterious" features in the game year after year...so we're just narrowing down the possibilities and guessing at the rest...

Re: Franchise Guide
Well, you have three pitcher position groups in this interface, so I just rotate things like bullpen session / pitching coach / simulated game between starters / relievers / closers...

Re: Franchise Guide
*** Players do not progress at or after the age of 31. If you want players to hold steady at this point (for 2-4 seasons), train them in "stretching" only. DO NOT TRAIN PLAYERS IN ANY OTHER CATEGORY (other than stretching) WHEN THEY ARE 31 OR OLDER AS DOING SO WILL RESULT IN A DRAMATIC REGRESSION.Comment

Re: Franchise Guide
The players you scout aren't always in the June draft-however if you save before the June draft, the players that appear in the June draft will be different each time-i.e. it's totally random the players that will appear in the June draft each time you do it.Comment

Re: Franchise Guide
Tonight is draft night. Yeah, baby!
I want to make sure A-Rod and Jeter don't retire so I have a quick question...
So if I understand this correctly, I:
1. Do the draft
2. Sim to the end of the season
3. View the retirement list
4. If A-Rod retires, I repeat step 1?
Or can I keep the draft, and sim to the end of the year again (which wouldn't really help me because I plan on playing the second half of my season)?
Basically, are the exact names for retired players locked in at the exact moment you exit the drafting screen? If not, when are they locked in and when should I save my Franchise to test this?Comment

Re: Franchise Guide
If I could get any help on the draft question on the previous page, I'd appreciate it.
One more thing...
To those curious, I can confirm that at least during one sim, the FA pool in the 2012 offseason is paper thin.
Best overall player: David Ortiz
Best overall pitcher: Brad...Penny???
Seriously, other than Ortiz, there was nada. I suggest everyone make a seperate file directly before advancing to the offseason if you want a decent FA.
I may need to make that Greinke deal now, because if I wait, I don't think I'll be able to bid on him.Comment

Re: Franchise Guide
I have been handling my own training and have found it much better to do yourself. I just change it up month to month but nothing too drastic. Check your coaching staff to see what areas do not need additional training.
Also had my June draft and took one player. B Potential 19 year old SP.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 05-20-2012, 07:52 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: The Show Franchise Guide
Ok, I feel like Knight and I have answered many of the same questions lately about the workings of franchise mode and I wanted to try to consolidate the information the best I can. This is in no way perfect, and I am not an expert on ALL parts franchise. I began work on a franchise guide and I still have tons to add to it, but here is what I have now. Anything that you guys can think of that needs to be edited or added please list it.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...1zj_DO4tU/edit
I've had a mind to put forward some of my own thoughts, mainly on the financial side, but I've hesitated to do so because I basically stole my system from an old gamefaq from 06 or 07 that I once had a printed copy of but couldn't find... but now, commisionerhbk9 just posted the exact guide I used in http://www.operationsports.com/forum...d.php?t=547923 , so now I can just link to http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/937278-m...how/faqs/47228 and say, hat tip to commissionerhbk9 (and the person who wrote the guide--do you still exist?), and everything I know about how to run franchise financials, I learned from this guide. A little out of date (was written for 07, I think the one I used was for 06), but still has a very solid plan for running the financials (taking out loans, buying vendors, scheduling promotions, all the little details). I've used it for 5/6 years and have always had simple, easy financial success, whether I use the Braves, the Red Sox, the Cubs or the As, so big market, mid market, small market. It's made what could be a boring/time consuming part of the game--one you might be tempted to let the CPU handle--actually fun, systematic, and easy. Hope it can be helpful to some of yall!Comment

It's too bad we can't train invidual players instead of having to use positional categories for all.Comment

Re: Franchise Guide
My understanding is that they shouldn't regress until their overall grade rating goes down. So, if Pujols is still an A at 32, he won't regress but when he becomes a B at 33 (example), then he will. Is this incorrect?Comment
