Re: timing hitting? most realistic way to hit?

I can win a lot more games using timing. I use Zone and Zone analog for the challenge on All-Star and above. 80% of the time its a regular swing. If I do use contact swing, it's with less than 2 outs and 2 strikes and I usually sacrifice my at bat. Power swing more wiffs and pop outs but longer homers that still would be dingers if swung with a regular swing. I feel it also depends on the hitter. If I use a contact swing with Pujols or a Hamilton etc. with a runner on 1st its a guaranteed DP.

I don't know how realistic it is, but I cannot imagine any other method on this game.

Well, for the record, I'm new to The Show as of this year's version. Finally broke down and purchased the system specifically for the game when Gamestop did their super deal.

I started off Zone Plus... I'm 33, almost 34 -- my twitch reactions aren't what they used to be, and being as I wanted to play online, I went to Pure Analog. Now, I've played probably 80 games or so online, and about maybe 5-8 full games with testing things, etc, in my franchises. Settling in to start a 10 year full play franchise now.

I started testing Timing the other day... at least for franchise play, I'm sticking with that, or at most I might go to Zone Hitting. I'm not one who likes to mess with pitch speeds and the like, so I want a good solid difficulty -- but I want my players ability to decide a large % of what happens in my at-bat, with my "stick skills" being important, but at the same time allowing how these real players really would perform.

Timing appears to do that, in my eyes.

EDIT: One thing I would LOVE to see is Timing Hitting but still using the analog to swing the bat... even if it meant the stride was technically meaningless, I would just find it more immersive. I know the devs read these boards, so its something to consider.

Try going into a HR derby and using only Square one round, then do the same but use X.. you will see a big difference.
Thought you didn't use buttons? hmm'

if you want to see more popouts/flyouts, timing

if you want to see more grounders, zone

just kidding, I myself don't know what to stick to, they both give me good and bad results >.>

I find when I use timing, I can hit homers with X, but when I use pure analog, I can only hit them with square.

You will hit HRs using x. You will also hit HRs using x which shock you, like on 2 strike counts on balls a square off the plate.

The thing that will frustrate you is how often some of your dumber hitters swing no-where near the ball.

I use zone plus analog. This gives me the most control in my opinion. I hate when my batter swings nowhere near the ball. Perhaps it is less "sim" as far as stats are concerned but more sim imo when it comes to actually hitting a baseball. It is the most difficult and also the most rewarding.

I play on HOF and absolutely murder with zone and zone plus. Feels like an arcade game.

I've tried them all. I can honestly say I like timing the best. Nothing more realistic than popping up with the bases loaded 2-0 count sitting on fastball, it happens in real life.

If you want realism, timing is the way to go. Be patient and wait for "your" pitch; meaning dont swing at pitches to far inside or outside unless you have 2 strikes (realism).
