I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but YES!

I honestly think lowering the CPU pitching sliders has a greater effect on user hitting than anything else. Lower the CPU pitch control and you will see a lot more fat pitches down the middle. Lower the CPU pitch control and raise all the user hitting sliders and you should be able to put up big numbers with the right approach.

I've seen a couple of custom camera threads on this forum, and I think that helps too because it allows you to pick up pitches better.

If you lower the CPU Pitch Speed slider a couple clicks and lower CPU control down to 1 and be very patient you should get good pitches to hit. If you can't score on rookie with timing and those sliders I don't know what to tell you.

That's helpful to know. The reason why I ask is because in franchise mode you're going to get great variation in hits and scoring (on default). You will see that the deeper you go into your season.

The thing with this (IMHO), is that the pitchers throw WAAAAY too many strikes. I've played with the sliders and it's helped but the pitchers are hitting the bottom part of the zone with regularly. (80-90%)

I was so angry last night that I contemplated trading in my PS3 for cash and leave gaming for good. My life is stressfull enough without having more stress from a stupid game.

However, I've realized that I'm a MLB addict...so, back at it tonight!

They may throw a lot, but walks and hitters counts are possible. The key is to learn the difference between a strike and a ball. The bigger key is the difference between tons of the plate, and very little of the plate.

Yes, that is true. However I still think the ball-to-strike ratio is a little out of whack. If I swing a low pitch it's a ground ball. If I swing at a pitch up in the zone it's a fly ball or pop out. A pitch down the middle happens ever 2 batters or so.

My biggest frustration comes from the inconsistant hit outcomes. Ex- Yesterday I (Tigers) was playing the Cubs. Blake "freaking" Dewitt takes a low fastball 365ft for a home run off of Verlander. Swing analysis gave his swing an "okay" & "early". So, I think "Ok, freak things happen in baseball." Next half inning I center one up with Prince Fielder and it's just a lazy fly ball to right. Swinf analysis gave my swing a "Superb" & "Perfect"...huh? Needless to say I was furious. I simmed the rest of the game, saved and shut down the system.

Of course the real Tigers can't hit a lick either, so this game maybe more realistic than I thought!

I don't know if it's supposed to be realistic, but I like the BB:K ratio. Walks are boring, and with the majority of the guys in my lineup I think it makes sense to be swinging at pitches that get a ton of the strike zone rather than "working the count".

My losers at most points in the game (those who's SLG % ~ OB ~) have a take sign until they have 1 k on them, then I try to wait on a grooved pitch and swing for power, and if that fails, then I try to foul off (with circle) and work for BBs. I'm looking at your Caesar Izturis

About the consistencies issue. Sluggers pop up all the time.

                    Re: Impossible to Hit!!!

Thanks for all the feedback guys like I said earlier I think I'm becoming a little better.

Just as a Test I played a game with the Rangers against Cole Hamels and the Phillies and scored 10 runs and 5 home runs in 4 innings. Default sliders and Veteran Difficulty

Then I played a game in my Mets franchise also on veteran with default sliders and got 8 hits 1 extra base hit and no runs in 9 innings. That's progress I guess.

Is there anything to that? Or is it just because I used the Mets and the Rangers who are ranked number 1 in batting..

It's funny how guys never remember all the good things their superstar players do. They just remember the occasional bad at bats. But hey, that's human nature.

KnickNation, There is no doubt it's easier to rake with good hitting teams (Rangers,Angels,Yankees). Expect more HR's and key hits with runners in scoring position. When you play with timing, you get real to life results.

                      Mets...Not so much.

Go to batter analysis, look for take %.

anything below 45% taken pitches is way too low. The normal is between 50%-55%

If you are swinging too mutch, you have to develope discipline, the hardest thing to learn in this game. It took me a whole year with MLB 11... Sorry pal, it will be a rough journey, but it will reap its reward, because the game will be much more realistic.

Pitch speed slider is broken. Even at zero, it's still pretty darned fast. Can make it a LOT slower on the Vita.

                              Re: Impossible to Hit!!!

                              Here's my theory:

You can't learn discipline with veteran or rookie hitting. On these difficulties, the opposing pitchers throw a lot more strikes to your sweetspot, so you are encouraged to swing more. I have played through a full season on veteran and I was still succesful while I was swinging at every pitch.

Try switching to All Star Difficulty, set strike frequency slider to 3, this way you will see more balls, your aim should be the following:

                              Take percentage: 50-55%
                              Opposing pitcher strike percentage: 60-65%
                              Walks per game: 2-3
                              Strikeouts: 6-8

If you have these numbers, you are doing everything right.
Iif you are not winning with these numbers, it's just baseball, you will have 161 more matches to win...
One more suggestion: do not play more than 2-3 games a day. I usually lose my discipline after playing 2-3 games, I become desperate, and that is not a good thing when you are playing a baseball game

I play on All Star and I take several strikes right down the plate throughout a game. I try to work the count. It works.
