I noticed playing in April during the franchise after the first patch. The Braves were playing Arizona. The game started @6:10p.m. E/ 3:10p.m.W. The infielders & outfielders were wearing short sleeves and the pitchers were wearing long sleeves. I believed the temp was around 56degrees.

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
I'd just like to see more rain.
I live in northern New England and it's literally rained every day this week. In my Yankees Franchise, it's rained twice. And I'm almost done with May.
I'll say it again: I saw more rain last year when the weather system was apparently bugged.Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
I don't have a problem with people having the option of choosing, I never said that. I just think for realism, which everybody wants, that getting to choose your own weather is not right. Players don't get to choose what it is like outside. If they want to put it in then so be it, I will just choose random all the time. But somebody that says they want realism should not be on here saying that they want to be able to choose their own weather, because that is not real.Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
As a minor disclaimer to start, I want to say that I love this game and it does so many things right. This thread is just about one minor issue I have had with the game for last 4 years that just annoys the crap out of me.
I absolutely can't stand how the game A.) randomizes the temperature of games, but only between limited ranges, B.) automatically makes your players all wear long sleeves at a given temperature, and C.) takes away any user control for weather options in Franchise. For a game that does so much to immerse you in the game and make you feel like you're really participating in an MLB game, this aspect drives me nuts. In any "northern" city, you might as well forget about playing any games in first few months and last few months of a season in which the players actually look like their real life counterparts with their respective accessories. The MLB The Show series has always lacked (IMO) that level of detail and uniqueness (in terms of Accessories, Equipment, Tattoos, etc.) that other sports games go at length to to include in order to give their players personality and feel like their real-life counterparts. Limited accessory options, no real equipment, very few tattoos, etc.. Although they have improved (with the addition of a few more Accessory options), it is still far behind the curve for the industry. Despite this, they don't allow the game to display what little it has at its disposal to differentiate the player models by eliminating their equipment edits and automatically giving the players long sleeves for all "cold" games.
Again, I know this is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things, but it seems like such an obvious oversight that would be so easy to eliminate; just give us the option to set weather in Franchise games or give us the ability to customize temperatures, or at least re-tune the weather to be less rigid in its randomization to allow for some more weather variance in certain cities.
I kind of agree with you in regards to the weather. The one thing that gets me is that I have yet to see rain during a night game in my franchise. Has anyone gotten rain during a night game during their franchise. It seems that all my rain games occur during the day. Just curious.PSN: ckarlic

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
I see the point. People want to choose their weather, fine I have no problem with that. I just said some people will complain because that's not real that's all. If you had read my post you would have seen that I said I have no problem with the option of choosing your weather, and that I would just choose random. I just think for realism that choosing your own weather is not right.Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
Right; but you're making it seem like an all or nothing proposition. You can still have your random weather and I can my customized weather. It isn't a fundamental debate about what's better or worse. My point is that it's always better to give the user the option, rather than making the decision for them.
Again read what I wrote. I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE OPTION.Comment

Sorry, I don't know why I didn't comprehend that. I was just caught up in the fact that you were giving your opinion about realism when the thread is about options, not what is the most realistic.Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
I hate the weather bugs in this game also. I play the Reds and the game does not even come close to an accurate sim of Cincy weather. It rarely rains in the game while it rains quite often in Cincy, especially in April and May. Plus, temps are generally way too cool in the heat of the summer. Most afternoon games are clear with temperatures in the 60's or 70's. Generally it would it mid to upper 80's with the occasional 90+ days in real life.
I know it's not an important feature to the game, but it does seem like it would be so easy to just find out the average highs and lows of 30 cities and represent them accurately in a game.
Attendance is another frustrating flaw. Some days i'll have only 13,000 in the stands which is way to low for GABP, next night i'll have 40,000 which is way too high for an average game at GABP.
Truth is the Reds generally draw right in the middle of them numbers. 25,000 a game would be more accurate.Last edited by Ranger05; 05-10-2012, 02:12 PM.Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
In terms of how "realistic" it would be, this would be another case where realism is subjective or, at least, a matter of perspective. Some people focus on the process when they talk about realism...others focus on the results.
For example, I play with the Red Sox and have rarely seen dreary days in my franchise...all clear and (in the day time) sunny. If I have an option to choose weather, I can match it to the real weather for a given game if I choose. So, in terms of results, it's actually more realistic.
Either way though, as has been said already, an option would be nice (though I admittedly don't know how easy it would be for SCEA to implement in their system at this point).Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
Didn't the NCAA Football game in recent years have a Live Weather Channel feed as an option? (Don't currently own a copy.)
Maybe SCEA could explore an agreement with the Weather Channel folks to do the same for The Show and make it an option to turn on before franchise games.Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
I'm glad they started including rain, and I must be the 7 millionth person to complain, but really, the rain is very little of a factor, and with zero possibility of a rainout or delay, it's just window dressing. I live in Atlanta, and during the summer, at least one or two games per homestand gets delayed, often for hours, by thunderstorms, not just some drizzle. How else do you get to see your episodes of Andy Griffith? (unfortunately, now it's more like Tyler Perry, but back in the old TBS days...)Comment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
This is one of those things in the game that didn't use to bother me in past years, but now that we're six years into the current-gen of The Show it's finally begun to annoy me. Seeing players in May and June wearing sleeves in temperatures below 60 just looks ridiculous. Apparently whomever is coding the weather for The Show is under the impression that professional baseball players are incapable of breaking a sweat. An option for this would be great but this should have been addressed long ago without needing one.
And ditto about the rain during night games. It NEVER happens. I happened to see it once last year, after over 200 hundred games played and watched between the CPU, during a playoff game in Detroit. They actually nailed the look of a cloudy night sky and it looks damn good, and it sucks that it's not coded to occur way more often.
And if they're not gonna ever include the rain-outs or double-headers(and there's no reason to believe that they will), I think a short rain delay with a cover-the-tarp cutscene would do just fine, or at the very least the rain delay message idea that was brought up.The Signature of New YorkComment

Re: Still Whining about the Weather "System"
Rain delays would be nice, but be careful what we wish for. An actual rain delay often changes a games whole outlook. Starters are usually pulled after lengthy delays in real life. The games AI bullpen management is horrible enough as is, I'd hate to give them another reason to make it worse. And for some reason, I can't see them implementing rain delays in a realistic fashion anyways. If they can't even manage to get average temperatures or attendance correct then I see disaster trying to include complex weather affects. Best leave well enough alone IMO.Comment
