I was just thinking of something like this on my way home from the corner store!

A sort of OS "Arbitration Panel" for trades, to augment / replace the easily exploitable franchise AI...

Why?

Well, it's 2013 in my A's franchise and I see that the Phillies have RF Domonic Brown on the block...

He's their starting CF...

I want to dump some salary, so I have SP Anderson, C Suzuki and CF Crisp on the block...

When I experimented with the trade, as usual the AI will take any of these guys for Brown straight up, which is silly...

Anderson would be their 4th starter, but because he's 26, he's move up as Haliday and Lee age...both are mid 30's...

Suzuki is a toss up with their starter, Molina...but is much better than their current backup...

Crisp would be a utility 4th for them...

Anybody have any opinions as to who the Phils would take for Brown that's fair?

Should I package AAA RF Cowgill into this?

Great idea, but the though part is describing all the factors that change as franchise years pass...

Thoughts?

But if posts like this happen here, this thread will get shutdown.

If people stick to the plan, and claim teams, this MIGHT work. But otherwise, it's the same thing as the trade discussion thread...UNLESS, this thread had an A's representative. See where I'm going with this?

King, I have SOME (not many) thoughts on how you should proceed. But if I answer here, this thread will (and rightfully) get locked. I don't want to rep the A's! LOL!

Might I suggest updating the first thread with a list of all teams and current represntative(s) for each team. That will keep the thread moving in the right direction and prevent a padlock. Should also have a set of "rules" for people posting in the thread so it doesn't encroach on the Trade Discussion thread.

I just wanted to lay out an example of how much detail is needed (I forgot salaries, for instance) to make a determination...

Anyway, it's a cool idea...

In this case, however I'd want to hear from whomever accepted the Phillies / GM / Arbitrator role, to find out what combo of my available players would get me Brown and possibly another prospect or two...

So this would actually happen via PM, based off the list of guys who took the GM / Arbitrator role for each team?

I will go through right now and copy down all "claimed" teams, that way we have a starting point so the thread will not be closed. Then, the folks that want to be involved in this idea aren't shut out, yet we still have different content here.

Next post will be a listing of all franchises with representation under the project.

I feel the best way to implement this is once teams have representatives, to have the following template for "team-to-team" conversations.

Bold the following:

ATTENTION: "BallClub Name" Representatives, Trade Negotiation With "BallClub"

This would allow for lurkers of the thread to see how people acting as if they were the GM for the team are approaching trade proposals, make it very easy to communicate with team representatives, and keep the thread clean, informative, and with a clear use outside of the trade discussion thread.

Obviously, I'm not OS personnel, I'm just throwing out ideas based on what I've seen in other internet forums and games over the years and I think this would be a workable system. What does everyone else think?
