Re: A trade acceptance/rejection thread idea

This is awesome and I'd love to help out but since I do fantasy draft franchises almost exclusively I would not be much help haha...

Maybe I'll start one with my O's and can be their rep

Re: A trade acceptance/rejection thread idea

Ok, just throwing my 2 cents in, please don't lynch me.

I think this thread/idea is an AWESOME idea, in theory, however, there has to be a way to take out the "home team bias" that, undoubtedly (likely unintentional) the "GM's" representing their teams, will show.

I'll use the team I use, the Detroit Tigers, as an example. As a Tiger's fan, I feel that I know this team better than most (not all). I try to look at things realistically when I make a trade, and think "what would Dave Dombrowski do" Take the Curtis Granderson trade for instance. Many many fans thought the Tigers would NEVER trade Granderson. I was in the minority, of people who thought this trade was a GREAT trade for the Tigers. They got a great center fielder in return, along with a good lefty reliever, and a pretty good arm in Max Scherzer, all for a guy who, while a good player, couldn't hit lefthanders to save his life (at that time at least). However, most Tiger fans thought this was a HORRIBLE deal for Detroit, hence showing their "homer bias"

I frequent a Detroit Tiger's messageboard, and constantly I see ridiculous trade proposals on there, ones that if a real GM proposed them, he would be laughed at all the way out of town. For instance, I saw a "lets get King Felix from the Mariners for Raburn, Smyly, and Boesch." Now, I admit Smyly is an intriguing prospect, but Boesch is borderline, and Raburn couldn't even fetch a bag of used baseballs in a trade right now.

Basically, in short, I think it is a good idea, but the "homer bias" will kill it

Re: A trade acceptance/rejection thread idea

Yea I think we'll def need to "monitor" all of the GMs and have some form of "removal" if we see someone just totally being a homer. Maybe a league wide vote to drop a GM lol.

We definitely wouldn't need someone saying "But he's my favorite player evar I'll never trade him!!" to all trade proposals for their team.

I think most people will have enough sense to be logical, but there will always be that ONE guy

I like the idea of voting out GM's if they're not doing their job correctly.

My .2¢. Why not once the GM's of said teams agree on said trade, have a approval vote. Then we wouldn't need to worry about "homers". When teams do trades in MLB they need Seligs vote. Would be similar.

Can come up with a template for info of players involved to help along those GM's that aren't so knowledgeable of other farm systems/teams.

Btw. I will help rep the Angels

You can call it being a "Homer". But as Tupac said, its California Love.

Re: A trade acceptance/rejection thread idea

I will update the post of "representatives" in a few, gents... I just got home after working a double...

I must say though, adding another layer (voting for approval on trades) seems kind of pointless, as people still have the ultimate choice WITH THEIR OWN GAME to do what they want to do. Also, seeing as how these will be posted publically, the backlash would be apparent if a guy was deliberately not acting in the interests of his squad -- or if he couldn't come up with anything to say as to why he would possibly accept a deal or something along those lines.

It's supposed to be informative, sure -- and useful, indeed. But, its also supposed to be fun and I think people are worrying a little bit too much, when I'm sure that most people that want to be involved in something like this are doing it for an extra layer of REALISM.

Just my two cents, again... but remember. It's supposed to be FUN.

I can't wait for this thread to get rolling. Will deffiantly be interesting. I'm a huge Braves fan, but fill like I'm behind other big fans and not really into it all of it like for instance the minor league. Outside from Teheran, simmons and Delgado (not in minors no more) and a couple more I don't know much about the fa em system. Feel like a bad fan. With that said, would not rep the braves. But can't wait for this to get rolling

Don't feel bad, the only reason I can name ANY minor leaguers, is because of OSFM's rosters and the minor leaguers existing in my franchise mode, in MLB: The Show. For example, I only knew Desmond Jennings existed, because I called him up in my own franchise last year. I'm probably the most clueless fan there is when it comes to this stuff.

Not entirely sure what it will entail but I know both the Cubs and Diamondbacks pretty well, especially their farm systems so I could definitely help out with one or the other. I probably know the Diamondbacks organization better top to bottom.

What it would entail would be basically talking about/negotiating trades from the perspective of the organization that you know best. If someone is attempting to make a trade with another organization, you get an idea what the organization thinks about those players, what they need to get into their organization, budget issues, etc -- that the engine doesn't take care of.

Since I'm a hometown Detroiter who franchises with the Tigers, for example. I know their prospects and their organizational plan so I can take a look when someone is thinking of proposing a deal and tell them if I would do it as a human Tigers player. That's really it.

I think everyone involved hopes that the representatives will be actively franchising with those teams for the best idea of what The Show attributes those players out as.

That's my interpretation at least, and what I am going to contribute if someone is asking me to deal as the Tigers.

EDIT: If this is interesting to you, am I putting you do to be a representative of the D-Backs then? Since I'm currently updating the list. Let me know.

I could do the White Sox if you need someone for them still. One idea going off of this is to create a spreadsheet based on on each teams needs, untouchable players, etc. I could put it together if everyone sent their info my way.

I see the Braves are already represented; I know them well (long time fan) and am running a franchise with them, so I could assist with the Braves if needed. I did run a Cubs franchise for a while, with the original OSFM spring training rosters, and I got pretty close to the end of season 1 (simming a lot) and I got to know the farm system--at least as represented in that roster-- pretty well. I could probably toss my hat three feet in any direction around here and find a Cub fan who knows more about them than me, but just in case they go unrepresented, I could help with them. Finally, I fully intend to start ANOTHER franchise at some point, with an American League rebuild team (or close; Baltimore, Minnesota, or somebody, haven't decided), so I could wait and see if we need a particular team, and that could be my decider. In other words, love to help, however it might be needed, count me in.
